Unions fuel the hate in Wisconsin.

[UPDATE]: Ann Althouse has a few photos up that rather starkly symbolize just how committed public sector unions are to cleaning up the mess.

(Via @keder) The Wisconsin GOP has put together a quick video of union attacks on Governor Scott Walker, which include: signs calling him a Nazi (and a dictator generally); signs calling him a rapist; and signs calling for his death.  What makes this a particularly hard-hitting video is that it’s interspersed with solemn quotes from Democrats who claim that their side never, ever, ever does such things: which is of course a lie, but a lot of these people haven’t internalized yet the notion that it’s harder to lie about this sort of thing these days.

Background, for those who need it: Scott Walker’s call for (limited) reforms of Wisconsin’s frankly out-of-control collective bargaining system for public sector union employees has caused a good deal of controversy, and by ‘controversy’ I mean ‘death threats.’  Excuse me: alleged death threats.  Anyway, as I noted earlier Lakeshore Laments is a Wisconsin blog covering this: note in particular the way that the ‘spontaneous’ sickouts seem to be mostly targeting Republican state districts.  It’s going to be a real interesting day in Wisconsin.

I have only two questions — why are these people not at work?

And how many of them have a valid “Wisconsin” drivers license?

More state organizations should be supporting their elected officials this way AND pointing out the utter hypocrisy of those on the left who are calling for a “new tone”.

This afternoon they’ll be bussed back to the alley they came from and given their 30 pieces of silver. Then its off to buy a 40.

I dunno, maybe they think Nazi, rapist, right wing nut job are terms of endearment.

OK, I can’t be snarky over signs calling for Walker’s death. Just goes to show the New Tone? they call for is for the right to shut up and go away. I see the “taboo” on crosshairs was short-lived as well.

Wonder if Gibbs, Pelosi, Maher want to walk back their belief the left doesn’t do things like that. My guess is no. My guess also is that Maher at least will encourage it, in the name of promoting the left’s agenda. When it comes to that, apparently it’s no holds barred.

You have enemies? Good. That means you?ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.

How about starting with something like garbage collection—–give residents of the state an opportunity to allow private companies to pick up their trash/recycling.
As more and more people sign up, decrease sanitation workers, trucks, equipment which in turn will lead to less pensions, less benefits paid out by the state. The less sanitation workers, lower property taxes to offset for those opting for private pick up.

Ten years ago I lived outside the city limit but in the same county as my city was in. I had to use private collection. They came twice a week and up to my very door (no taking trash to the curb). They didn’t have 13 government Holidays, just 6 like the rest of us. It worked great. Why not have an option? Costs less than I pay now.

Then move on to schools. Let a company start up a private school. If you enroll there your property taxes get lowered, just a bit. Schools lose enrollment. Lose tax dollars. Property taxes go down even more.

If bank tellers can sit in windows all day and provide good (OK, not always) service, why can’t someone operate a DMV bank-style (DMV is ALWAYS a hassle)? You don’t think Administaff has people who could do this? 1099 them?

I went to renew my business license. 5 windows are there and only one person handling a line of 25 people. Again—look to a bank operation.

Little by little can be done to dismantle public unions by giving people a choice. Instead of cutting their benefits and asking them to give some of their own (this pi**es me off, it’s OUR money) for retirement.

Less need for services from city, county, state. Less workers. Less pensions. No “reform”—just eliminate the need.

Or at least terrified. Whatever the feeling is that arises when it becomes apparent that the neighbor’s well you have been stealing from for years has finally gone dry.

Odd to blame the neighbor, but these people lost touch with Reality long ago.

That said, a poster above makes a very good point: the majority of the protesters probably do not know their way around town, and will be back on the cheapest bus imaginable once their work is done.

As Republicans tried to begin Senate business Thursday, observers in the gallery screamed “Freedom! Democracy! Unions!”

One of these things is not like the others.

The Wisconsin state Senate was scheduled to vote today on Gov Walker’s budget repair bill that includes the measures to deal with state unions.

But not one Dem showed up. The police are reportedly out looking for them now.

That’s where Texas Dems ended up a few years back, as I recall.

What hypocrites these people are. I thought “crosshairs” were outlawed (sarc). I guess it was inevitable that the Left would be the first to break the new tone of civility.

How dare they compare their governor to Hitler and Mussolini. These men mass murdered people. You insult the memory of those people who suffered at the hands of these men. If one of my child’s teachers was holding up one of those signs I would make it my mission in life to see that he/she lost their job.

Take them on Gov, Walker, do not let up. These people are exposing themselves for who they really are; lazy, entitled, and hateful.

Democrats put the State in a real fiscal mess. Give Walker credit for trying to save their jobs. Would they rather lose them? Obama should stay out of State business and the people that were bused in should go back home. They know nothing. The school or college kids have been brainwashed so many years they also don’t know what is going on. Before any of you make more fools of yourself, learn what has ben going on with your State and what Walker is trying to do to save it. I pay for half of my Insurance and YOURS. How fair is that.

  • danandsis

Governor Walker should immediately privatize all the public schools and set up employment offices for new teachers at each school with the proviso that only those genuinely concerned with the children’s welfare need apply.

you would think that Teachers would be smart enough to know that if the Union wins in Wisconsin tht many of them will then have to be laid off? Then the class rooms might double in size and the student to teacher ratio will be horrible. If the governments are unionized then everyone should look out because no profession is safe.

Whenever Unions gain alot of power sure the workers seem to get better money but what really happens after awhile the company can’t afford to keep paying the outrageous salaries. Then people start getting laid off and the economy goes in the dumper. Its the same old story and we just keep repeating it.

This is Greece-2 with more hate and rage, doing everything they falsely accused the tea party of doing.Barry is meeting with the union thugs, while democratic law makers hide in the local non- union Best Western.Gov Walker is doing his job and very well.

…andnd a local newspaper posted a link to a site where you can pull up the individual salary / benefit “earned” by teachers in Wisconsin. On a lark, I pulled up my son’s third-grade teacher’s salary and fringe, and even I was taken aback. Her combined salary and benefits were almost $90,000 / year! I am an insurance attorney with 20 years’ experience, and my combined benefit is only $10,000 / year higher than this, and I pay over 20% into my benefits package, she pays less than 5%.

So no, I have no sympathy for their cause. NONE!

Years ago in Utah, the best job for the low skilled was at Kennecott Copper Mine. During the 70s the union kept raising the demands and particularly in healthcare, I knew a couple of workers and their wives were really pushing the healthcare deal, they need their perscrips for valium etc.

Eventually Kennecott shut down the mine, all the miners were gone, the town where they had lived dropped into crime and drugs. Without the county help, it would have been hades.

A couple of decades later, Kennecott reopened the mine with high end robotics and far fewer workers.

Seems to me, union people arejust so clueless, they ride the gravy train till the goose is dead, sad cases really, Just when union people think their adversaries have no choice but to give in, they discover to their everlasting regret, that there are always other options.

  • soljerblue

The poster with the cross hairs over the photo of Governor Walker?

    Bullies. Cowards. Whiners. Liars.

    What “workers”?

  • barryeod

What specifically are you referring to?
What has Obama done to you?
What has Obama proposed that is so terrible?
What has a union done to harm you?

    I thank unions for:
    40 hour workweeks,
    Overtime pay
    Safe working conditions
    Minimum wages
    Weekends
    America’s success

    As for unions…

I am outraged when we all end up over paying for PSU’s when we in private sector work very hard and still can’t reach that level of benefits. So why should we pay when we ourselves can’t make that much?

Why shouldn’t the Governor fire the teachers for boycotting work?

Why should taxpayers pay outrageous salaries and benefits for incompetent government workers?

Unions have lost all relevance today. They are a bunch of thugs. I don’t want a single taxpayer dollar to go to unions.

Also if you think you are underpaid please get lost and find some other job. We can’t afford you. We don’t make that much. THERE IS NO MONEY.
