Darned *straight*, Glenn.

People like Andrew Sullivan were dumb rubes to actually believe that any functional candidate for President would actually believe in the progressive anti-war strategy (let alone implement it, once they were in office), and you told them so.  Heck, I told them so – admittedly, when I wrote that it was before the financial meltdown turned what had been a moderately tough election campaign cycle for the GOP into an impossible one, thus making it unnecessary at the time for the then-Senator to actually address his mendacious pandering to the anti-war movement with regard to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  But the Right blogosphere knew that “All Barack Obama Statements Come With an Expiration Date. All Of Them” right from the start, and we were not shy about saying so.  If the rubes over on the anti-war Left are now upset about that, well, they should try voting sober next time.

And since we’re bringing up uncomfortable truths, let me add this one: we were right on the war, rubes, and you were not.

PS: Lest this turn into a lovefest for the President, let me remind you of something else: Barack Obama is bad at this, mostly because it takes him far too long to come up with a response in a crisis.

But Moe, we're stupid, among other vices unenumerated

Intelligence is irretrievably connected to a childlike, unshakable faith in central government, all high school grads and NY Times writers know that.
We were, are, the dummies who question government functions, actions, and expenses, just as many before us had, and as the Founders intended, as in fact the Constitution was structured, so that power might be dispersed and questioned.
But now things are very simple, very simple. You can gaze at your TV and know thousands of people you will never talk to are not only stupid, but racist also.
So easy, so comforting, so ego enhancing. Their world of policy & beliefs continues to crumble, and they don’t know it. And we’re the dumb ones?

Otherwise John McCain would never have been nominated. And that joke Huckabee would have never been runner up. What we did as R’s was chase away all talent in favor of the drones.

If we don’t offer something better than Romney, Huckabee, or even Daniels, we will wind up in 2012 saying “President Obama” for four more years.

I like Herman Cain, but I think he is too honest to ever be nominated. Politics is liking to wrestle in the mud with the pigs.

Hey there, speaking as a rube!

Good lord, it is always amusing to watch the macho posing, shrieking, and desperate rationalizing of the pseudo-conservatives on this site on being for the Iraq War. The Iraq War should be in the pantheon of examples of modern Big Government™ blunders. It was a failure, remains a failure, and forever will and should be regarded as such. The only way it can be considered a success is by constantly lower the standard by which we define “success” in Iraq by, which is what has been the case among the large population of loud, stupid pseudo-conservatives that sadly make up the population of modern conservatism today.

Let’s get this out of the way: Iraq is a failed state, ranking at number 7 in the Foreign Policy Failed State Index as of 2010.

Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died in the war directly from violence, many more from increased starvation, malnutrition, disease and other interrelated causes. Millions were displaced. Post-Saddam Iraq has an utterly corrupt and vile government that has been confirmed by Wikileaks to have engaged in torture and a number of practices that distinguished its Hussein-controlled predecessor. More attentive readers may notice, that like other Middle-Eastern dictatorships this year, Iraq has had its own Days of Rage protests, which of course, have been met with violence, repression, and threats of torture that mark any civilized, healthy democracy. Moreover, it ended up costing us a deal in life, limb and $3 trillion dollars, rivaling or even succeeding any particular initiative Obama has engaged in. Like the stimulus, TARP, and other large government good-will measures, the Iraq War failed, did not meet its main goals or expectations and has generally brought increased misery upon the Iraqi people. It should rightfully be separated from the sad political ideology trying to defend it and moved on from.

The only reason it will not be is because of the utterly duped idiots who are more concerned with political tribalism than actual conservatism. It’s legitimately hysterically sad to see you people ineptly defending this, in the same manner as the liberals you rail against ineptly defend the stimulus and healthcare. The Iraq War failed, It’s time to suck it up and do the hard thing liberals will not: admit your failure and move on a little wiser and humbler. You can take comfort in the fact that our Democratic President’s bumblings in Libya are likely to fail just as spectacularly.
