Obama administration: It’s not war, it’s Kinetic Military Action!

Consider the three-letter acronym that can be formed by that.

Background: our adventure in Libya is apparently the War That Dare Not Speak Its Name.  At least, the White House seems absolutely, completely determined to avoid the ‘war’ word, to the point where administration officials actually used the laugh-out-loud weasel term ‘kinetic military action‘ to describe the situation.  ‘Kinetic’ is definitely the buzzword in play, here: Defense Secretary Gates himself said that if our ad hoc cobbling together of largely unrelated objectives and media-friendly visuals plan works then “the level of kinetic activity should decline.”

You are about to see why Rush Limbaugh has a multimillion dollar talk radio empire that dominates its particular market, and I am an admittedly-amiable and reasonably creative guy blogging from home. Because this is prime stuff here (via Hot Air) coming from Rush:

RUSH: I swear, this is surreal. KMA, kinetic military activity has replaced WTF, (laughing) which is winning the future. I’m sure you thought it was something else. (laughing) Kick my — has replaced what the — Okay, so I guess we’re to assume it’s not a protest anymore. It’s a kinetic assembling action. It’s not a riot. It’s kinetic thuggery action. It’s not a vacation. It’s kinetic leisure action. It’s not golf. It’s kinetic ball striking action. It’s not dancing. It’s kinetic foot action. It’s not sex. It’s kinetic Lewinsky. (laughing) I’m not drunk. I’ve been engaging in kinetic adult beverage action. It’s not an election. It’s kinetic voting action. It’s not radio. It’s kinetic Limbaugh action. Whatever. Kinetic means motion. Military means armed forces. Action means motion. Kinetic action, moving motion. And these are the smartest people in the world.

That last sentence is obviously sarcasm, because it’s just as obviously not true.  But I will contradict Mr. Limbaugh on one point: the right word in the three-letter acronym that he’s implying is not ‘kick.’ It’s ‘kiss:’ and the real question is, which group has been invited to kinetic the President’s military action? Is it the Left, who wake up every morning to discover that the Democratic leadership isn’t even trying to lie to them anymore about how the Democrats ever really believed all that antiwar nonsense? Is it the Right, who are beginning to develop a head of steam over the way that the administration isn’t taking this war – yes, I wrote ‘war’  – anything close to seriously?  Or is it the American public, who is hopefully being carefully taught that we’ve been saddled with a White House with a foreign policy that cribs everything from the Bush administration, with the glaring exception of basic competence?

Or are we dealing with a “All of the above is true?”  Fair warning: I’m reluctant to accept that theory.  It implies that this administration is capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time, and I’m blessed if I can think of a time when they’ve demonstrated any ability along those lines.

PS: The reason why the administration keeps making rookie mistakes like these in terms of obvious messaging goofs (Winning The Future, anyone?) is because they are rookies, and for many of them this is the first time that they’re not being graded on a curve.  From the President on down.

And, hey, we told you so.

“I’m menopausal and I have a gun.” Only in this case they have the entire US military!

Euphemism at it’s laughable worst, the product of small, limited, but arrogant minds, though covered adroitly by minds perhaps smaller, God bless them, our media.
Can’t say it enough and I’m glad Rush used it, we are supposed to be the stupid ones.

because the simple truth is that Obama has ignored the calls for help from peaceful, pro-democracy Iranian protesters, who have seen an election stolen from them. He decided instead to go to war in support of trigger-happy Islamic fundamentalists who have revolted because their dictator was not fundamentalist enough for them. Same dictator happens to be a key ally in the War on Terror, and one of the only who gave up his WMDs willingly (making it easy for Obama to summon the courage and attack him now).

Like the bumpersticker says, “Change is inevitable, growth is optional”. These clowns are more than two years out of the gate and show no evidence of growing into their boots. Barry proved he was childish with his middle finger antics during the debates. I think he and the beer-ponging texters who infest his administration are quite aware of these acronyms and their vulgar meanings.

If this were the 80′s It would have been a band name by now.

That was so good, I had to log on via phone to say so!

smart, but devious. Now, I’m not so sure. I can’t believe that they think that anyone outside academia and the media are so stupid as to buy this. It is condescending and insulting. And nobody likes to be treated that way – least of all the American people.

“Are you going to believe your eyes, or what I tell you?”

    Wow. Just wow.

I think you hit it on the head, Moe, when you mention the “rookie” nature of this administration. From top to bottom, we have amateurs, or even worse, academics, who work a lot of the theoretical, but haven’t a clue of the pragmatic.

When the Secretary of State is the “experienced” foreign policy/military adviser (8 years in the Senate based on 20+ years as the much maligned house wife) then we have a problem.

I find it less a sinister, world changing conspiracy and more a lot of deer in the headlights – the sheer ineptitude of these clowns is astounding to me and I’d laugh if this all weren’t so darned dangerous.

I think this was a case of him feeling like he was left out of the party (we know he likes to rub elbows). It’s comical the first call to action was coming from the French. Then Europe hopped on the bus. Could it be that the primary petroleum source for Europe being under pressure will put them at the mercy of the Russians? We know they’d hate that. So the UN goes for it, Obomination hangs on the side lines, then realizes he’s not playing pin-the-tail like the rest of the group. I’m still not understanding what the US objectives are? I still don’t get what the imminent threat to the US is? I mean it’s not like they are developing nuclear weapons with the intent to bomb us…..

Iran was killing it’s own protesters to a sham of an election. We didn’t respond, regardless that we had a greater interest there….

    . . .but decided was too over-the-top.

That said, what has to happen before the United States can acknowledge its leadership is simply not up to the task? These people have absolutely no idea what they are doing, but they do have cruise missiles. The combination is unsettling.

I’ve been reading Atlas Shrugged — never got around to it years ago, but I find that reading it right now is very, VERY creepy — because she nailed these people. While Rand was a wacko, and not a very nice person, her insight into what makes things tick is just plain awe-inspiring. Page after page, I find myself saying, “Yes! That is EXACTLY what they do / how they think / how it works / what is happening.”

I nominate your last two sentences for Quote of the Day.

You’ll understand what I mean when you get to it. Many, many people have skipped it (at least on the second time through the book). I still love Atlas though, and while she was wrong in a lot of important ways, Rand has shaped my views and thinking in some pretty important ways.

Good call on Orwell. Newspeak has been out of control since the PC early nineties, at least.

I mean, look, I totally get that the President and the rest of the Administration speak publically and officially for the whole of the United States on these sorts of matters. What the Prez says, is what America says.

But…for all our allies (see: U.K., Israel, Australia, etc…) and all those other countries out there that are not necessarily our BFF, but with whom we’re nonetheless basically on the same page (most of continental Europe, Japan, etc…)….one can only hope that they understand that they are staring into the face of sheer, radical incompetence.

One can only hope that the day that someone – anyone – heck, I’d take Hillary over this nonsense anyday – takes over the office – that these fine nations will not hold the sins of Obama against us.

Honestly, it’s like they held a “Be President For A Day” contest for a bunch of high school class presidents, and this guy won, and has never been asked to leave. And this is 2 years into it. Two and a half if you count the time the transition team would have been active and should have been, you know, learning how to do this job.

    Good Earth.

Does anyone in this administration think things through before speaking? (I exempt Mr Gates here, who tries and fails to keep a straight face when explaining Obama’s actions so often, that I fear that he will never be able to roll his eyes properly in the future when he actually wants to.)
