Where are the adult Wisconsin Democrats?

Because somebody in the Wisconsin Democratic party needs to be the adult in the David Prosser/JoAnne Kloppenburg state Supreme Court recount, here.  This nonsense has gone on long enough: three weeks and a quarter-million taxpayer dollars later, it has – not ‘become’ obvious that Prosser has won.  It’s been obvious since they certified the results.  What’s more properly ‘become’ obvious is that the Kloppenburg camp has decided to simply wait until the recount is over, then challenge the results in court on the grounds of a Democrat lost/ they don’t like the results/democracy.  Which is why the Democrats are doing things like disenfranchising nuns; it’s all about the narrative that they hope to present, at this point.

As to why the Democrats need to find some adults, fast… it’s for their own self-preservation, really.  Shark & Shepherd gives the reason: even postulating that a successful challenge to and overthrow of legitimate election* results occurs (which neither he or I think is likely), the consequences to the Democratic party of Wisconsin would be disastrous.

Whatever momentum the left has in Wisconsin would be gone. The anger on the right would make Madison’s recent Days of Rage look like a picnic. No Democrat would win a recall and Obama will be an immediate underdog in Wisconsin. You can’t toss out legitmately cast votes and not pay a huge price.

You see, there’s only one set of populists on this bus – and they don’t vote Democratic, these days.  But the Prosser/Kloppenburg Supreme Court election was supposed to refute that, wasn’t it?  The idea was that the Democratic/progressive Left was going to take this opportunity to flex its collective muscles, roar, and show that they too could tap into the Will of the People.  Only, they didn’t.  The Democrats came kind of close, but despite being a lot higher-profile they got outspent – and more importantly, outvoted.  They still might win a few recount races (emphasis on ‘might:’ I’m wondering at intensity levels, even now)… but they will certainly will not do that if Wisconsin conservatives and Republicans suddenly get infuriated.

And, trust me: being targeted with election fraud reliably infuriates conservatives.

*Actually, the entire point of this post is to inject some Reality Non-Unicorn into the discussion.  Here, on Planet Earth?  Prosser won.  People who believe otherwise are being stupid I can say these things, because I’m not an official involved in the recall process; I am thus not obliged to pretend that the people trying to overthrow a legitimate election are generally not prime candidates for a surreptitious make-sure-that-their-underwear-is-inside-their-pants check.

I’d be happy with a few childish but honest Democrats.

Somehow, it gets even worse. They had no way of knowing which ballots belonged to these cloistered nuns, so they randomly picked 18 ballots from the town of Sumpter, WI and just tossed them. 14 for Prosser, 4 for Kloppenface.

So it wasn’t just nuns who got disenfranchised. It was 18 random people from Sumpter. For all we know, all 18 nuns voted for Kleptenberg. Or all 18 voted for Prosser. But hey, let’s just take 18 votes completely and totally at random and throw them out. ‘Cause that’s how democracy works if you’re a liberal.

From the article: “Because canvassers were unable to match the ballots to the actual voters, they took all 24 absentee ballots from the Town of Sumpter, where votes from the monastery are counted, randomly drew 18 and rejected them.”

It is highly likely some legitimate voters just got their votes tossed.

Please tell me somebody is filing an “equal protection” claim. That sort of blatant injustice cannot go unchallenged.

. . .the fight itself being citable later as “proof” of a stolen election, a la Florida and Gore. They know they’ve lost, so this is a matter of what passes for Principle in their minds, or at the least a predictable page from the playbook.

When you’re spending a bottomless supply of Other People’s Money, why quit until you get what you want? Shame is not in play, as our side represents all that is Wrong in the world and must be stopped at all costs. They see themselves as fighting the good fight, and Reason stopped playing any part a long time ago.

Never, ever, ever underestimate their ability to destroy themselves. If History proves nothing else, it proves this.

Their tactics are out of Hitler’s playbook for bringing the Nazis to power. Always demand more than they can possibly give you. Create disruption. Use pretexts. Use the courts. Yes, Hitler advised all these things. (See: The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich).

These people are thugs and brownshirts. Someone better wake up or it is all going to follow its natural course, which is National Socialism.

The dead-tree media in this state is useless to a great degree; and the talking heads on the local television stations aren’t much better. The only media outlet that this story has had (and continues to have) any traction is with our talk radio personalities.

Sadly they are about as rare as adult Republicans. Politics seems to take the adult part out of the equation. This Dem startegy of throwing a fit if i don’t win should be a lesson to everyone. Unfortunately the MSM is too far left to tell the story to the rest of the country.

    What a beautiful thought.

Is there anything we can do to accelerate them toward that finality?

    We’re already over halfway there.

During the Madison events a group formed on Facebook (Teachers and Allies Opposing the Budget). During the events the group was running wild with mobilizations, sympathy for the Flee Party, etc. It began to wane when the Dems came back, but continued some vitality with the recall efforts and the Prosser/Kloppenburg election.

The recalls are going nowhere. Prosser won. The FB page still exists, but where I used to get 10 to 20 posts a day, I’m now surprised to see one or two, and they all tend to be academic (eg, one thread on what constitutes a good liberal arts education — aimed of course at college students; I didn’t see anyone suggesting they take those notions to inner-city schools).

As powerful as the 2010 election results were, I think what’s happened in Wisconsin is a real bellwether: the liberals are in shutdown. It remains to be seen whether we can reap the rewards.

I always thought Democrats were Childish people that never grow-up. When you grow up you are a Republican. Therefore there can never be an Adult Democrat by logic.
