Mike Doyle (D, PA-14) backtracks on ‘terrorist’ comments.

Alternate title: Politically flabby Democrat (in comfortably Democratic seat) suddenly remembers that home state is losing a Congressional District; and that the redistricting process is fully in the hands of the other party*.

Which is probably too long a title, at that. Anyway, Mikey Doyle is very, very sorry that the Tea Party thought that he was talking about them when he started spouting off about terrorists:

U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, said he wasn’t comparing Tea Party members with terrorists when he used the word during a closed-door caucus meeting Monday, but was expressing frustration at President Obama’s negotiating tactics, which he said gave in too quickly to GOP demands in the debt ceiling debate.

“Had I simply said hostage-taker, there wouldn’t be this reaction. I certainly wasn’t out to defame anybody,” said Doyle, who couldn’t recall the exact statement he made.

Tremble at the courage of this fine specimen of Pennsylvanian Democrat-hood, if you will. And from a currently D+19 seat, too (apparently, ‘only’ getting almost 70% of the vote in 2010 was more of a shock to Doyle’s system than he rather liked). For the record: no, ‘hostage-taker’ would not have been notably better; Doyle was, in fact, out to defame people whose only crime is to disagree with him on a basic point of fiscal policy; and I believe that the exact statement that he made was

“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

…which is why Vice President Biden’s staff is currently doing everything short of an actual cross-check to get their charge out of the blast radius on this one. Because those ‘terrorists’ are tired of this kind of language.

*Said other party is expected to be very, very careful this go-round with its likely changes, but that doesn’t actually help Doyle in this case; it merely means that the Republicans might feel comfortable whittling off a few safe votes around the edges. Just to watch Doyle dance a little…

I don’t think it’s the next election that concerns him. I think it’s the fact that he will have a much tougher time buying votes and living off the benefice of others in the near future that piques his inner Hugo Chavez.

Was he out drinking with Kennedy!

What is even more interesting about Doyle’s comments is that he gave us a perfect glimpse into the liberal mindset.

What Doyle is most upset about is that the Tea Party won’t let him spend other people’s money, That has liberal Pittsburgh Democrat so furious that he has to engage in political name-calling.

he was only calling them terrorists. In any case he only meant it when he didn’t mean it. Babble, babble, gargle, spit, gargle, foam, drool.
A true representative of the party of the people, one who the NY Times could relate to and endorse, indeed, a progressive.
Is there any record, or does it matter, of Doyle’s equally eloquent denunciation of the real thing, islamic bloodthirsty murderers? Or does he strike the Napolitano/Obama mode, exuberant social reformers?

when spending ONLY $3,8 trillion is referred to as not being able to spend ANY money.

Granted if he’d have said “any additional money” his thinking would still be fantastically flawed.

“I didn’t mean to compare them to terrorists when I called them terrorists.”

That is some excellent work right there. Bill Clinton couldn’t be more proud!

I’ve lived in Doyle’s district since 2003, and up until last year, he ran unopposed. When he finally got some competition in 2010, he referred to her (unsurprisingly) as a right-wing extremist. Doyle usually likes to keep a low profile and portrays himself as a moderate (another pro-life joke.) The truth is, he voted 99% of the time with Pelosi.

It’s also a little known fact that he was instrumental in getting ObamaCare pushed through via the deal he helped facilitate with Bart Stupak at the 11th hour. His involvement is detailed in the following Politico article from March 2010:

The only way Doyle is ever going to be thrown out is if his election gets national attention. Up until the now, the man has masterfully kept his name out of the media (just like his buddy Bob Casey in the Senate, who also votes 99% of the time with Reid and Obama.) He is one of the most dangerous members of congress, but no one is ever aware of it.

In any case the boob states he doesn’t recall saying what he says he said and didn’t mean to say but said anyway and hostage taker is a nicer thing to say. The crazed loon in question even says “if I had only said”etc, an admission of the words used. In between attacks of rabies seizures.
Do you get the feeling that we are in the midst of a pure, severe, and pervasive, widespread mental disorder?

Liberals are nothing more than repressed adolescents. I used to get a chuckle out of many people (including some Lefties) when I called Teddy Kennedy the “world’s oldest juvenile delinquent”. Doyle and Joe BiteMe remind me of many a thirteen-year old who cut class a bit too often. How such foolish men ever got elected to Congress is disturbing to me. It doesn’t say much for their constituents.

Biden was definitely inexplicably under the impression Doyle referred to Tea Partiers as “terrorists.”

Free and sincere advice to Congressman Doyle: Dude, just say you’re sorry and it will all go away. Lying about it will only make things worse.

  • SoFiMil

Doyle 1) doesn’t remember his exact statement, 2) wasn’t comparing Tea Partiers to terrorists, and 3) wishes he used the word “hostage taker” instead of whatever it was he said.

A question for the Congressman: Who would you have been referring to if you had used the word “hostage taker?”

So he is saying he called 0bama a terrorist?!” (or whatever it was he said)

  • SoFiMil

No, I was referring to Obama vs “this small group…”

Doyle’s clarification is littered with additional inarticulate mid-spokes.
    Pass the popcorn!
