Now I like many have not dug into every decision he’s ever made as governor but I like his style and overall Texas has fared very well by comparison over the last several years in this down economy. I am from Dallas originally and Texas definitely has a libertarian slant to it and so I think Texas-style governance is in style these days. Both Rick and Romney are slick politicians and I really think that is your race right there for better or worse.

Now we will see an onslaught of stuff from all sides on Perry, showing he’s a RINO and made “C’s” in college and everything else that comes out so we’ll see if anything sticks from the first major onslaught of attacks. He’s been around a while so I’m doubting there will be anything that sticks. I would put my money on him being the nominee. He has a lot going for him that Romney doesn’t so I really think he surges pretty quick.

What I hope from him is that he can clearly express his plans for America and also attack Obama’s god-awful policies every chance he gets. I really think it’s counter productive at this stage to attack other Republican candidates, because the real way a candidate surges is by distinguishing themselves and raising their own game. so I’d be surprised to see him go after Romney too hard until you get really close to Iowa.

So I will give him a plus1 and see how the thing goes. Right now he’s my number 1 guy.

Look at the TV and see the next President of the United States.
She said,” Good, we need someone who believes in God. With out God, we are lost”.

She does get things right every now and then.
    God Bless Rick Perry.

  • lizfstone

    God bless Rick Perry

  • Paul Seale

Been following him since 2009 in hopes he would make the plunge.. He did so today.

    AWESOME.

Lets support the man and go on to defeat Obama in 2012.

  • gracie

In ‘Nawlins it was huge…with both fists up at the end…fit the tone and size of the crowd.

There in So Carolina he was speaking on a very serious subject to a smallish crowd so he kept it low-key and sincere. I am ready for down to earth and sincere! Anybody else?

It sounded less political and more from the heart.

  • swami7774

    …that is a night-and-day contrast with Obama. That’s a plus.
I just wonder if he’s too “hot” for what is a cool medium. He’s got to become a little less stiff and robotic. The passion is great, but a little honey attracts a lot of middle-of-the-roaders.

And that has to stop – NOW

Folks who are rightfully angry about Romneycare, are you not angry about mandating a dangerous vaccine by executive order? #Perryfacts

Get in line and lets beat Obama

I’m going to have to repost my diaries on the “conservative continuum” and litmus tests. Everyone has an axe to grind. It’s time that we recognize that there is no perfect candidate. We’ve been through this idiocy about Perry and The Vaccine before.

We finally have a 3-legged stool Conservative that has name recognition, charisma and who knows who the enemy is (re: his speech today). Time to support him and turn the guns towards Obama.

  • izoneguy

It used to be way more conservative. I don’t even waste my time looking at the comments posted by the libs, Rinos & moderates.

    Very Sad

  • acat

Back around CPAC 2010, so .. it kinda got overlooked.

Here’s the story at mediaite and <a href="the Hot Air reactions at the time.

I stopped commenting on Hot Air a while before that, the signal-to-noise ratio had made it unreadable, but still stop by to read the articles. I do, however, tend to discount anything not by “Captain” Ed Morrissey or Allahpundit.

    Mew

  • acat

There are certainly issues this cat disagrees with Perry on .. but I recognize I’d be better off under POTUS Perry than under Obama.

It’s very tempting to write a diary of all the documented anti-Perry mud, just so I can point to it and say “That’s # 5, asked and answered, please attempt to grow a brain.”

    Mew

  • http://www.nighttwister.com NightTwister

    That didn’t take long.

  • msctex

to the amount of desperation felt by one party, Perry and all of us are in for a wild 15 months.

This really is not going to be pretty. But thankfully, we now have someone in the saddle willing to shoot back.

  • Bill S

We went through a thread like that a couple of weeks ago, and someone (I don’t remember who) did a very nice job in debunking the mud.

  • Bill S

But you’re right – past Morrissey and (to some extent) Allahpundit, the stuff there is weak. “Karl” writes some good stories on the Green Room side.

  • luvnthebigsites

“signal-to-noise-ratio” is an epic description. Let me offer: “Conservative Graffiti” as another angle. (Conversely, posting as “luvntheBIGsites for years… Yea, I’m guilty as charged.)

Whatever happened to the threads at Hot Air, Big sites etc… I don’t want that to happen here… Even if that means running me off… :)

  • izoneguy

I am looking at in the past few hours. Obama’s machine is deathly afraid of Perry. Perry is the one Obama fears most. This will be a war.

  • aesthete

To me, Perry is the least objectionable candidate who is still in the running (and who has a realistic chance of winning), but I sure hope that RSers don’t take to telling us that it’s raining when Perry p*sses on our leg, or to calling anyone who objects to a Perry candidacy heretics.

  • luvnthebigsites

And good Ideas get lost in the process. Aye… It will be a war. Lets work smart… not hard… “rise above the fray” as it were.

  • runner12

Perry is not perfect, but he probably has the best chance at beating Obama. There are several things that I strongly disagree with him on and that merit discussion here at RS.

We don’t want to become blind robots for Perry like the Left is for Obama, but we also do not want to tear Perry to shreds and repeat Leftist talking points. We need to do our own research.

For example, I wanted to look up the Texas DREAM Act that was passed by Perry and the legislature. So I did some research and read the original bill in 2001 and its’ amendment in 2005. What I found is that while I still disagree with it, it is less objectionable to me now than it was before. I found that in the bill, it requires the students going to college to become US citizens. It is non-negotiable. If they want in-state tuition, they have to begin the process to become US citizens.

There will be a lot of false and true statements regarding Perry in the coming weeks. As informed citizens, we must sift through the information and make up our own minds. But I will say that the more the Left hates on Perry, the more I like like him.

  • JustLeaveMeAlone

but I loved my email this morning from Rick Perry, saying he was going to be announcing at RedState today. Having moved to TX in 2000, I “inherited” him as governor, but since then I’ve gotten to know him and know about him. I was proud to be invited to his last inauguration as governor, and I can’t wait to celebrate him moving into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

  • acat

The thread view makes it easier to separate the graffiti (usually single, stand-alone-posts) vs. conversation (for example, this thread).

And .. quite a lot gets by me, truth be know. I just recalled that one, in part because of the turmoil at LGF…

    Mew

  • acat

and quite a lot of it has been educational, if not entirely unbiased.

    Mew

  • izoneguy

I will probably do this as we get closer to entering the real meat of the campaign. I hope Perry will come out and do it for us.
WHAT would really be awesome – if we could interview Perry
and ask him about all this stuff……
And then post it as a Redstate exclusive.
The MSM will go nuts when you start rolling out
    Rick Perry videos….

  • izoneguy

should contrast and compare the different states approach to non-citizen tuition/education. I start reading those papers and my eyes gloss over.

Right now the libs throw out that Perry signed a Texas DREAM act and make it sound like we encourage illegals to come and get a free college education to the detriment of Texas citizens. I don’t think that is this case but that is the spin.

Here are some articles I found:

Rick Perry Stands By Texas DREAM Act

In 2001, Perry signed the Texas DREAM Act, which allows in-state tuition for students who have lived in Texas for three years and either have obtained a GED or graduated from the state’s public or accredited private schools. The state legislature had passed the law with bipartisan support.

Gov. Perry and The Texas Dream Act

I know many conservatives outside of Texas will be upset to learn this, but they shouldn?t be.

It?s important to point out that there is a huge difference in the Texas Dream Act and the The Dream Act that was pushed in Congress and failed. The Dream Act in Congress was full of all kinds of goodies other than allowing children of illegals to receive in state tuition. The Texas Dream Act was focused only on that. I happen to agree with The Texas Dream Act, and so did everyone in the Senate in Texas. It passed with ZERO ?no? votes. Add to that, it has been proven to be successful.

These are a few things you need to know about the Texas Dream Act. The child has to have lived in Texas the three years leading up to high school graduation. These students are given no special treatment in getting into Texas colleges and universities. They must get in on their own merit. They are paying the tuition (with or without financial aid). It?s estimated that these students make up about 1% of those entering college.

  • izoneguy

Perry hits a grand slam with this answer about Gardisil

His third question from the crowd was about an issue that his critics have touched on ? his 2007 mandate for girls to get vaccinated against the cervical cancer-causing HPV virus.

?I signed an executive order that allowed for an opt-out, but the fact of the matter is I didn?t do my research well enough to understand that we needed to have a substantial conversation with our citizenry,? he said. ?I hate cancer. Let me tell you, as a son who has a mother and father who are both cancer survivors.?

Perry said he?d invested government resources in cancer cures, adding, ?I hate cancer. And this HPV, we were seeing young ladies die at the early age. What we should have done was a program that frankly should have allowed them to opt in, or some type of program like that, but here?s what I learned ? when you get too far out in front of the parade they will let you know. And that?s exactly what our legislature did…

  • runner12

This was EXACTLY what I wanted Perry to do on this issue. His statement is a pretty good mia culpa, in my opinion. It takes guts to admit that you did not do enough research on something and that you were wrong. Contrast his response to Mittens’ responses on RomneyCare and Perry comes out the winner.

  • izoneguy

I suggested to Perry that he handle this question that way…..
I doubt anyone from Perry’s campaign actually took my advice – but it
does show they have some pretty smart people on the case.

  • rightwingmom52

Took your advice. After he did announce at RSG03.

  • Reg

Romney explicitly defending abortion, Perry mandating elementary school STD vaccines.

The GOP field this year sucks.

  • Uma Richie

Thank you for posting this. Gov. Perry signed the HPV vaccine executive order right after I gave birth to my first daughter, so it left a huge negative impression on me. I can accept his admission of insufficient study and get over what had been my lingering reservation about his candidacy.

  • izoneguy

I mean Obama? They want to stay with this loser?
Rick Perry admitted he was wrong and is moving on.
Obama will never admit he was wrong about ObamaCare,
even though the last appeals court ruling was against the mandate.
Obama is riding the bomb all the way down, baby.

  • renl57

From Obama’s point of view, ObamaCare was and still is the right thing to do. His goal is to make everybody dependent on at least one program of the Federal Government, so that no one will ever again imagine a society in which anyone can be independent of the Federal Government.

I’ve heard liberals say that was the main benefit of Social Security and Medicare–it introduced seniors to the “benefits” of Social Democracy.

National health care was so important to liberals that they put everything else aside to get it passed, even the recession. They had a good reason.

  • izoneguy

    Huh?
ObamaCare is and will destroy the democratic party.
If it stands it will destroy America. That is a good reason?

I would rather the democratic party be destroyed.

  • renl57

In a debate, Obama would have a tough time against either Romney or Perry–though for different reasons for each candidate.

So I don’t believe this MSM stuff about “a weak GOP field.” When we’ve got at least TWO choices, either one of which could clobber Obama, that’s not a weak field!

  • renl57

Because the Dems are going to play that card for all it’s worth.

The libs have already rolled out the line that any cuts to any government spending allegedly affect minorities “disproportionately”–hence just talking about reining in excessive spending is a racist attack on minorities.

  • ryanp

The guy’s record will sink him. He’s almost as much of a spender as Romney. The Texas budget : gdp ratio has increased every year but one that he has been governor. Texas spending as a percentage of gdp is not great right now, it’s about average for a state. Used to be better pre-Perry. Even as an incumbent he has had Republican challengers because of his reputation for corporate welfare. The guy is not that great. Of course he looks good compared to Obama but even huntsman looks good compared to obama.

I think Bachmann and Paul are the only true fiscal conservatives running with a record to back them up.

  • gekster

    And you are wrong.

  • Christine (Trelaina)

that’s what renl is trying to get at (I think). For them, it’s exactly what “needs”to happen.

America destroyed in the process? Small price to pay for a socialist.

  • APA Guy

Perry will have the benefit of a conservative congress when he is sworn in. You’ll be amazed how thrifty the budget will become given that perfect storm of developments.

…and given that our likely choice is between a person from MA with a dismal health care issue record and a conservative from TX with the ability to stomp Obama into dust, I’ll take the latter.

  • izoneguy
  • acat

    Thank you for posting!

    Mew

  • ryanp

I think anyone but maybe Santorum could beat Obama. We should pick a fiscal warrior. Bachmann and Paul are the only ones who could be called fighters when it comes to the budget. We are 5 years away from 150% debt:gdp ratio… that’s what greece is at. We can’t take the risk of assuming Perry will change his stripes.

  • Scope

and well worth every minute. Very informative, and balanced reporting. This guy put a heck of a long time into his research on Perry.

One thing you can take to the bank with a President Perry, he will most definitely close the border, every last mile of it.

  • msctex

A Conservative being labelled/libeled as Racist is the equivalent of a car alarm going off on a crowded street. It once would have merited attention, but those days are long behind us.

    The Democrats’ Missing History

As Democrats prepare to nominate Sen. Barack Obama to be the first black president, the Democratic National Committee and its chairman, Howard Dean, have whitewashed the party’s horrific and lengthy record of racism.

In a stroke, 52 years of Democratic history vanishes. Disappeared faster than the truth in the Clinton administration. Why would this be? Allow me to sketch in a few facts from those missing 52 years. For that matter, lets add in the facts from the party history before and after those 52 years, since they aren’t mentioned by the Democrats’ National Committee either.

    So what’s missing?

There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms supporting slavery. There were six from 1840 through 1860.

There is no reference to the number of Democratic presidents who owned slaves. There were seven from 1800 through 1861

There is no reference to the number of Democratic Party platforms that either supported segregation outright or were silent on the subject. There were 20, from 1868 through 1948.

There is no reference to the fact that Democrats opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1866. It was passed by the Republican Congress over the veto of President Andrew Johnson, who had been a Democrat before joining Lincoln’s ticket in 1864. The law was designed to provide blacks with the right to own private property, sign contracts, sue and serve as witnesses in a legal proceeding.

Go to the link to see the full list…..

. . .was of course to “help” those they held back for a century, by using welfare to make it a wiser financial decision than not, for men to abandon their families.

Evil comes in many faces, and often with malevolence hidden behind “good intentions”. Democrats paved half the road to Hell with that one.
