NY-09, NV-02 Special Election Results Open Thread.

[Final UPDATE, 12:15 AM]: We got ‘em both.

Polls just closed in NY-09.  AP Results here.

Polls in NV-02 still open until 7 PM Pacific. [UPDATE: Polls closed.  Results here.]

UPDATE, 10:03 PM: For the record, if the final result is as below (it won’t be)…

…then the Democrats are going to be ticked.

UPDATE, 10:45 PM: OK, more seriously.  With 12% of the vote in, Turner’s ahead 56/44 and it’s starting to look like the Republican might actually win the Queens part of the district as well as the Brooklyn one (Turner was aiming for doing well enough).

UPDATE, 10:50 PM: we need a better NV-02 counter.

UPDATE, 10:56 PM: Annnnnnnnnd… two districts have reported in in NV-02!  This is going to be a lonnnnng night.

and only 4 precincts in? hmmm
That said Turner is expected to do very well in Brooklyn where most Orthodox Jews reside.

  • lineholder

to impound all absentee ballots, so we may not get results tonight.

Also, do you have another link for NY-09 results? AP link isn’t working. Thanks.

    Twitter link.

  • proudgop

    Turner is ahead
Keep an eye for Forrest Hills in Queens its very pro Dem once that comes in a cal can be made

  • lineholder

    Turner 56% and Weprin 44%

  • barry915barry

Is that Turner is leading in Queens!. Barry.

  • SoFiMil

If so, I could go to bed early assured of a Republican sweep.

  • proudgop

    turnout appears to be low

Its looking great but more Queens needs to come in. I have no idea what parts have come in

  • barry915barry

With 149/512 in. The vast majority, 135 of those are in queens (where Turner trails by 3 votes). Barry.

  • bk

The slower returns there must be to see how many cheating votes they need to overcome Weprin votes in Queens.

  • Mike Ferguson

of Obama and Dingy Harry watching these first returns and both of them knocking back a scotch, with depressed looks on their faces.

    has more numbers

  • Mike Ferguson

How big a deal is it if we actually take both of these house seats and how much will it impact the probability of a republican president in the next election?

  • hones

an election where’d I’d be praying to merciful God that the margins would hold up in Brooklyn, NY of all places. BROOKLYN.

I love that this is even a contest.

  • swami7774

Tight one. Turner’s rolling in Brooklyn but losing in Queens, where the turnout is heavier.

  • spainishirish

I met a Republican or two in Brooklyn, but that’s about it.

  • http://www.usdebateboard.com usdebateboard

But this will just go to show you that you can never run far enough or fast enough away from Obama if you want to get elected and have a “D” after your last name.

Which is nice, in a Presidential election year.

  • acat

You’re welcome to interpret that as media hype, of course.

In seriousness, they matter as much as any other rigorous likely-voters poll, they’re no more than indicators at a specific point in time, for a specific district.

Turner is already thanking supporters and Koch and Giuliani are celebrating with him. They know which precints they need to carry, and by how much. Plus their own poll watchers phone in precinct results. I do believe Turner has won.

  • http://www.usdebateboard.com usdebateboard

If Republicans lose, the MSM will declare Obama has turned back the revolution and is suddenly invincible.

If Democrats lose, they’ll blame Weiner and Reid.

…it obviously won’t change the voting patterns in the House significantly. You’re going to see a heck of a lot of ink/photons excusing away the NY-09 results; and there is something to the argument that NY voters like to punish dumb behavior by proxy. But this isn’t going to be a thumb’s-up for Obama any which way.

Symbolically, the Democrats will now shut up a bit about how they’re these great Monsters of Special Elections, which would be worth a half million bucks right there. :)

  • mboyle1988

Werpin needed 54% in Queens and 42% in Brooklyn. He’s not hitting either number. My friend from high school did opp research for Turner. Boots on the ground tell me that Turner’s going to win 51-48, based on the returns so far.

  • nvrepub

Bottom line: one GOP, and one DEM seat will be eliminated; one in NYC and one in upstate. This would let both parties off the hook: each eliminates the new guy.

  • mboyle1988

It’s just a lie to suppress the black vote…

  • http://www.usdebateboard.com usdebateboard

    How about that!

  • proudgop

Represents part of Brooklyn. Parts of Brooklyn near water and Orthodox Jew area are like another state ( plus Staten Island) are like another state politically here

  • spainishirish

It won’t fly with this one, though, given the partisan breakdown in this district.

I don’t know how it will end up but Turner’s lead is widening. Spin won’t work with even a close loss; imagine how a four or five percent win will look in this district. This will play into the DOOM scenario.

  • acat

otherwise it’ll be challenged and stolen in the recount.

    Mew

  • swami7774

    Steady as she goes.

  • Finrod

Two-thirds of the Queens districts are in where he’s trailing 51-49, and only a third of the Brooklyn districts are in where he’s leading 69-31.

    This is looking very good.

  • nvrepub

Couldn’t have happened to nicer vultures.

  • spainishirish

But, yep, although turning around and stealing one they shouldn’t have lost in the first place wouldn’t make for the greatest PR and would drag out a story they want shut down tomorrow night about this time.

  • acat

    ’nuff said.

    Mew

  • http://www.usdebateboard.com usdebateboard

Schumer and Weiner have to live to witness it.

    A more fitting outcome.

  • nvrepub

    just called it for Turner,

  • proudgop

    Bob Turner has won

  • swami7774

    Thank the Lord and Taylor.

  • jbrodin

    53% – 47% with 338/512 districts reporting

  • spainishirish

If that margin holds, add amazing.

  • hones

I’d like to thank Ferraro, Schumer, and especially Weiner for their contributions to the district, not to mention the DCCC for their 500k tribute.

    Cheers

  • http://www.usdebateboard.com usdebateboard

    Fish or cut bait.

  • proudgop

    Talk about huge win too

  • jbrodin

    57% – 37% with 375 / 858 districts reporting

  • gekster

The conservative won, so you wouldn’t be interested.

  • nvrepub

saying GOP only won because of the 9/11 remembrances. Talk about pathetic.

    uhhh…BOOM goes the dynamite.

  • SirGladiator

This would be a really sweet victory even if we were just looking at our past history of losing Special Elections, and seeing how incredibly we’ve improved, but this isn’t just about winning in both red and blue America, this isnt just about being a great night for Conservatives and Republicans, this is about sending two important messages. For one, a message to the White House that American voters, even liberal democratic voters in the bluest of blue states, will not stand with you if you don’t stand with Israel. And the other, that these same voters will not stand with you if you stand against Marriage, as the Democratic nominee did. I’m proud of the voters in NY who put principle above party, and of course Im also very happy that the people of NV, in a more traditional Conservative vs Liberal contest, chose the Tea Party Conservative in a Landslide over the liberal democrat. A truly great night for America!
