Focusing particularly on the voters within audible (and olfactory) range of Zuccotti Park, which is currently the somewhat squalid epicenter for the protesters: I am given to understand that increasing numbers of them are tired of the noise, the disruption of local business and residential life, and, of course, the defecation*. I am also given to understand that those voters are not really getting any sort of real response to their concerns, mostly because the authorities tacitly accept the notion that a bunch of squatters get to have a say in this discussion:
“We really, really want to be good neighbors. We want to be involved with the community here,” said Tyler Combelic, an “Occupy Wall Street” protester.
Let me just drill down on this: the Occupy Wall Street movement has no right to the term ‘neighbor’ in this context. The movement does not own any real estate in the area. It does not rent any real estate in the area. It certainly does not pay municipal taxes in the area. Occupy Wall Street protesters are squatters. The best upgrade to that status that they can hope to achieve would be that of guests. And for the record: when a host asks a guest to keep it down, the polite – and prudent – guest does not give his or her host an argument about it. The guest instead keeps it down.
Moving along: the city is probably not going to be all that helpful, and as for the Democratic party (NY-08 is a D+22 district)… well, the national party stands with the protesters; and as for their local Congressman Jerry Nadler? He just loves himself some Occupy Wall Street. His constituents who are actually stuck with having to hearing the drum circles and smell the urine? Well… I didn’t see a letter on Nadler’s site complaining about that. Guess that gives a good idea of his priority list. So… if the city won’t help, and the current political party in charge won’t help, what’s a NY-08 voter to do? Vote Republican?
…You know, that might actually work. Certainly the New York Republican Party would agree.

Mr. Obama is pretending that an economic “recovery” is underway when he knows damn well that the banking system is just blowing smoke up the shredded *** of what’s left of that economy – James Howard Kunstler
I live in NY-8
adamd Friday, October 21st at 9:53AM EDT (link)As a Conservative Republican living in NY-8 nothing would make me happier to see Nadler go down. The protestors have cost NYC $8mm in police overtime pay. Also the police should be using their time more efficiently making our neighborhoods safe. Nadler has been very quiet when it comes to the protestors. I have to walk by the part on the way to work every day, it is disgusting and all the businesses close to the part say the protest is hurting their sales.
"Squatters" is being generous.
NeoKong (Diary) Friday, October 21st at 10:41AM EDT (link)Squatters only takeover abandoned property.
They do not erect shanty towns in the middle of a thriving business district.
They would all have to take a two week course and study very hard just to be promoted to “bum” status.
To be merely homeless would be like an example of a success story.
If they achieved homeless status at least they would be cleaning windshields, collecting cans, working street corners pan handling and feeding themselves.

funwithknives Friday, October 21st at 5:14PM EDT (link)“Time to do some BUD NIPPIN”! They blew it when they cheezzed out and didn’t proceed with the power washing they had planned. Is there no N Y city or state Health Dept to inspect and possibly enforce sanitary corrections or out-right removal of these {possible}violators?
That would be some Gov’t I could surely endorse, and I’m quite sure many business owners there-abouts are in total agreement with my sentiments. I saw a bar owner on CAVUTO,last week and to say he was one P O ‘d American is really understating things . Eternal smells, sinks torn off walls, plugged toilets, and flooded floors{with WHAT??} were just some high points. His stress level has to be off the sane-o-meter ,yet he still has to pay his fees / taxes and for what…?
If these folks were in your front yard, what would you do? For me ,I’d start with a rented water tanker and my own personal fire hose, with a real big pump behind it. {“Red-ee…Aim…Whoosh….!”}
I have no respect for these idiots..run them out.
snowshooze (Diary) Friday, October 21st at 9:32PM EDT (link)This should not be tolerated, at all.
You don’t get to pitch your tent under any other circumstances, not in the middle of a city…ever.
Why now?
No, do not waste money by putting them in jail… ( that could be what they want )
tear gas them to oblivion.
It doesn’t seem like a peaceful exercise of freedom of speech if they establish a beachhead, hold ground against property owners who only want to maintain their property…expect everyone to feed them and allow them into their businesses to utilize the sanitary facilities without even patronizing the business…I’d throw them out.
I just wish they would try it with me.
This is the government throwing in with socialist’s against the will of the people that live in the district. Nobody wants these people, however, their local government officials must be in alignment with the scum taking over the parks and private property against their will.
I cannot believe what I am seeing.
I knew I had seen #OWS before somewhere
