The (very belated) Louisiana election results open thread.

Sorry: given the way that the Louisiana Democratic party is more or less at the Cheyne-Stokes breathing stage at this point it didn’t really seem that high a priority.  Results here.  Bobby Jindal won, of course (and it wasn’t even close); but it looks like that the Lt. Governor and Secretary of State races are going to be closer.  Honestly, I don’t know enough about the state political situation to speak more about it…

Open thread.

As Moe mentions, the Lt. Governor and Secretary of State races are going to be closer but not because the Democrats ran good campaigns in either race.

    From the KSLA website:

    Lieutenant Governor — 3,246 of 4,258 precincts reporting (76%)

    i-Jay Dardenne – R 398,332 53%
    Billy Nungesser – R 346,949 47%

Secretary of State — 3,246 of 4,258 precincts reporting (76%)

    i-Tom Schedler – R 353,677 51%
    Jim Tucker – R 346,638 49%

Please note that all four candidates have an “R” after their name!

for Louisiana’s screwy open primary system. He called it jungle primary. It’s also been called a Cajun Primary, a top-two primary, Louisiana Primary, non-partisan blanket primary, etc.

When Edwards first became governor back in 1971 he got the state legislature to change the election practices in an effort to make it easier for Democrat candidates (he’d had a difficult primary).

Also, as an interesting aside, evidently Washington State and California use this method of voting.

    It’s a free-for-all.

I think it’s a bit fitting that Edwin Edwards is still alive to see the veritable dissolution of the Democratic Party in Louisiana. It’ll never leave the state, though it may remain in minority for the foreseeable future.

Gone are the days of ballot boxes floating down the bayous.

“Cheyne-Stokes” – I love it! And how apt a description for both the MSM and Lefties all across America.

    Times-Picayune recap here.

    Plus, Dardenne won. Good.

He’s a great guy who has served the people of Louisiana well…

…plus it’s one more nail in the coffin of the “racist Republican” mythology:

I declare he would plumb go into some apopleptic fit seein’ Bobby Jindal elected then re-elected. Leander’s bjuddy Bull Connor would swallow his cheap ceegar as well.

Bravo to the people of Louisiana!

    Is she up in 2014?

In WA and CA, the top two, no matter how well they perform, go to a runoff. In LA, you can win in the primary with 50%+1. This is why (starting again in 2012) our primary is in November and our general is in December for federal races.
