FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

RS at CPAC: Ted Cruz (R CAND, TX-SEN PRI).

Ted Cruz is an old friend of RedState, of course: so we made sure to spend a couple of minutes talking about the race, how the ongoing redistricting dispute in Texas is making everybody’s elections difficult, and about CPAC generally.  And if you’re wondering why a Texas federal Senate race would be affected by redistricting, it’s because nobody really wants to have three primary dates this year.  Anyway, we chatted for a bit:

is a rising star in the Texas GOP. I wish him well in this election cycle. The Democrats are creating all kinds of problems them about the re-district maps. They have not been winning elections, so they want the courts to put them back in power.

The socialist democrats had success in 2010 confusing some races by having a third party run as a conservative or a phony tea party candidate.
I fear the GOP establishment is using similar tactics in this Texas Senate race with the emergence of ESPN announcer Craig James running as a ?conservative?. James has no experience in politics but could dilute the primary vote to allow Dewhurst to win with a less than 50% margin.
Ted Cruz needs a lot of financial help to combat this two headed establishment monster.

fits more of the “I’m uninformed and vote mainly off of name recognition” profile. Since far more Dewhurst voters fit the same profile than Cruz supporters, I would think James entry would be advantage Cruz.

Perhaps I’m wrong, have you seen any polls with second choice crosstabs? Or any recent polls for Texas senate at all for that matter.
