Barack Obama asks for ‘flexibility’ from Medvedev on missile defense.

Alternative title: “Barack Obama begs Russia for more time to arrange capitulation on missile defense.” There’s an election coming up, you see – and if the President gets re-elected then he will be in a position where he won’t have to worry about those pesky voters, and their provincial dislike for having nuclear weapons pointed at their heads. Hence, the need for more time:

President Obama assured Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday that he’d have “more flexibility” after the November election, during a conversation that appeared to focus on the touchy issue of missile defense.

Flexibility.

Flexibility.

Ye gods and little fishes.

There is no flexibility, here. The missile defense system was proposed for a reason, and the reason is that nobody particularly trusts the Russian ‘Republic’ – which is actually a kingdom whose ruler remembers fondly the days where it was the center of an empire and one of the two poles of the world. More to the point, that kingdom still has the nuclear weapons that made it one of those poles*. Nukes + an aggressive foreign policy designed to stoke domestic pride + systematic domestic problems = worrisome neighbors. Which is why countries like Poland were happy to host the missile defense platforms: after all, they’re well aware that Russians have difficulty admitting that the concept of “Poland” should exist in the first place.

I should not have to explain any of this to an American President. Then again, as we all know killing missile defense has long been on the progressive Left’s wish list for some time. Certainly Barack Obama knows:

(‘Unproven.’ Amazing how badly this guy guesses the future, huh?)

That’s from 2008, and Barack Obama’s apparently decided to see if he can keep his views quiet just long enough to get reelected in 2012. Great news if you’re an antiwar progressive; not so great if you happen to have relatives in Warsaw, Riga, Kiev, and/or Budapest. Or just don’t want to see Eastern Europe under outside imperial control again…

Moe Lane (crosspost)

PS: Let me make this clear. Missile defense is a shield, not a sword. That an effective missile shield will marginalize Russia on the European stage should not be the problem of the United States of America. It should instead be an impetus for the Russians to become better neighbors. And, hey, possibly a functioning representative democracy, too? – Crazy notion, but God knows they’ve gone through all possible variations of autocracy by now; the Russians might as well try something radical.

*Well, it’s not like the Soviet Union was ever a world power because of its economic policy. Or technological prowess. Or grasp of basic agricultural principles.

It?s simply unfair that the undeserving US and its allies can defend themselves.

Surely he knows what is best and how to put the US in its ?proper? place.

  • Dave_A

After all, while active missile defense is better than the ‘Try it, you die’ passive protection of MAD…

The Europeans – save the British and French – do not have any MAD capability.

Russia can’t really bully the US with nukes any more than we can them… Welcome to the cold-war status quo…

They can, however, scare the crap out of Europe, thanks to the European defense policy of ‘have a red phone on your desk labeled ‘Washington, DC, spend money you’d otherwise spend on defense on social programs’….

  • Common_Cents

That should scare the crap out of everyone. He has shown he ignores the will of the people, the constitution, rule of law etc….

  • Dave_A

Being missile-proof on a global scale is a huge advantage when dealing with China – especially in terms of tactical & intermediate-range weapons.

  • Stricia

It will be very telling to see how the MSM plays this story in the next couple of days. Will the general public hear about this? Maybe.

  • Xasteius

What should REALLY scare us is if he actually gets re-elected.

  • nancylee

Are you kidding? Why would Obama want the Russian Republic to become a functioning democracy when he doesn’t want it for America?

If he gets his way, we won’t have to worry about healthcare, because we won’t have a country left. You don’t really think our enemies will ignore a chance like that, do you?

The Left will get its wish long enough for America’s enemies to get in gear and do what they’ve wanted to do forever.

    RIP USA.

calling for the third party nonsense or spouting that Romney is the same as Obama should realize very quickly that is not the case.

And just in case anyone has forgotten or doesn’t know, I’m a Newt supporter and despise Romney. But there is no evidence or reason to think that Romney would go down this road.

  • Common_Cents

with political capital and a “mandate” of getting re-elected he’ll blaze forward even more radical then his first term.

  • clintonformccain

that there’s no difference between Romney and Obama?

  • Tbone

We have a president who states very clearly, to a long time adversary, that he is basically needs to lie to the American people during his re-election campaign so that he can deliver a better deal post his re-election.

What the Republican leadership in the House needs to do is hold televised hearings and ask the President a simple question. ” How does the best interests of the United States change from October 2012 to December 2012?”

The answer is they don’t. The man is a traitor.

  • renny

They general public were pretty unaware of Wright or Ayres or the o’s unavailable confirmation that he is a human being living in this century by documentation. Why should the MSM be forthcoming on missile defense? They hate America too.

  • Ann_W

I remember a clip of Obama saying that, I forget where. Even Obamacare doesn’t really start ’til after the next election.

  • lineholder

I’m not sure what it is going to take to communicate this particular concept to people, but…take what has happened in the last three years, multiply it many times over, and that’s the direction we’ll be going in Obama gets re-elected.

It’s one of the reasons why I’m so adamant in believing that regardless of who the Republican candidate ends up being, Conservatives can’t sit this one out.

This is the perfect opportunity for the Anti-Romneys.

Mr Etch a Sketch has refused so far to “lite his hair on fire” and criticize our President.

Well these comments by Buraq with Medvedev demand an immediate response. No reasonable candidate for the Presidency can or should let these comments that compromise our security pass. The importance to our national security is just too grave.

Newt and Rick need to forcefully obliterate Obama on this issue and demand our faired haired frontrunner do the same. Right now.

If Willard refuses again to attack Obama on this life and death issue, then it is reasonable to demand Romney to end his candidacy. I know Mr Etch A Sketch wants to avoid any semblance of controversy with our Traitor in Chief, but now is a put up or shut up moment. If he won’t do it, he should be figuratively ripped to shreds for he is no Patriot.

ObamaCare has a date with the United States Supreme Court this week, on its 2nd Anniversary of its signing. Republican US Senate candidate for the state of Pennsylvania, Sam Rohrer, is conducting a National Talk Show information campaign to draw attention to the foibles of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. ?Obama Care?) that President Obama signed the Obama Care law on March 23, 2010. In regards to the law, Sam Rohrer hope that the Supreme Court will rightfully rule, as Rohrer stated, ?This law is not about ?Hope and Change.? It is about an unconstitutional power grab by President Obama and all those who voted for this disaster including (PA Senator) Bob Casey, Jr.

Turner is from Dayton, where the large AFB Wright-Patterson is located, and he is chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces.

Jon Kyl has weighed in, along with assorted “Republican strategists.”

But neither Santorum nor Romney has a comment…yet? Are they “weighing their words” so very carefully? Do they not want to be seen as “shooting from the hip” or something similar?

Or do they not want to attack MAObama’s “open-microphone” comments because they were unofficial and obviously “off the record”?

Am I smelling Eau de McCain in the air?

And that’s protecting the people from foreign invasion — or at least allies! What an incredible statement he made. I first saw the story and video clip on ABC news via Yahoo. I think Jake Tapper had the story. And then it had a message saying “video no longer available.” I saw the clip. It’s chilling. The president of the United States is saying he wants to get past the election and then he can give Russia what they’re asking for — or what? Amazing how he asked for “space” — maybe he’s a bit worried he won’t get re-elected, or else these doggone elections take up so much time. Man, I hope this statement gets spread widely. Thanks for making it known here.

I hope someone puts this sucker on Youtube and it goes viral. People should know that this loon will give our secrets to our enemies and will leave us unprotected. Obama has already given British secrets to the Russians. He simply is dangerous and can not be trusted.

Romney talked about Obama’s statement this afternoon in an interview on CNN:

  • http://www.skiloveland.com skicougar

I realize this statement make me seem like a Glenn Beck fanatic, but I am not, I am just being realistic.

Given that Obama has run over Congress with executive orders, the courts as he wishes, US citizens thru taxation, inflation and intimidation and foreign allies in England and Israel and others; to think he will not continue all of these at greater speed is quite naive.

If I were a free country, I would send my citizens over to swing states and try and turn out the vote for most likely, Romney. It is in their interest just as much as ours.

P.S. Coming to this rationale, I am convinced Israel will attack Iran before the election. They would be a fool to trust anything from the white house if Obama wins, although; that’s not much different than today.

…become “a more functioning democracy” while we are becoming less of one?

Anyway, give the big O more flexibility to run as one thing, so he can get elected and then govern as another.

  • Ausonius

because we know that the MSM will send it down the memory hole. This should become a campaign issue for Romney.

All Republicans and – one would hope – Democrats who still care about American security should and really must join forces to stop MAObama from kowtowing to the Putinocracy in Russia. Fearless Leader of course will be happy to save MAObama’s back by staying quiet for a while and behaving, especially when the ability to blackmail the US and Europe in the future is being handed to him so politely.

There’s plenty out there to warrant impeachment, but the will to rock the boat seems to be lacking.
