FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

The IRS is NOT investigating Gov. Nikki Haley (R, SC).

Welcome to South Carolina! Here's your accordion.

You may remember that a few days ago a minor South Carolinian political blog tossed out the very serious allegation that South Carolina governor Nikki Haley was about to be indicted by the Justice Department for alleged tax fraud involving her parents’ temple*.  The keyword?  “Imminent.”  Well, it turns out that the IRS is not actually investigating either the Governor or the temple (H/T @RBPundit) in fact, if I’m reading this correctly the entire thing was more or less based off of the usual bureaucratic paperwork (H/T Hot Air Headlines).  The goofball progressive blogger n00b (some guy named Logan Smith) that put up the article in the first place at first tried to stand by his anonymously-sourced allegations, but has since more or less given up and done one of the more grudging and passive-aggressive retractions that it’s been my pleasure to read lately.  I don’t even think that Smith is going to get fifteen minutes out of this; and, of course, he’ll never get another shot.

Tragic.

Annnnnd that’s pretty much it, at this point: absent further developments this story looks to be going nowhere.  I’m sure that people are not surprised.  I’m also sure that people remember the fun and games from the 2010 gubernatorial elections; back during the primary the establishment put together what had to have been one of the most laughable accusations of adultery in recent political history.  That it obviously doesn’t work doesn’t really matter; this is how they play down in South Carolina.  Which is to say, dirty – and as this exercise indicates they’re not particularly shy about using New Media sources to do their dirty work for them.  Note that I am not saying that every single political blog in South Carolina is corrupt: merely that it’s wise to get… confirmation… on some of the juicier stories that bubble up out of there.

Moe Lane (crosspost)

*You may be forgiven for thinking that reminding South Carolinian voters that Governor Haley’s parents are practicing Sikhs was actually the whole point of the exercise.  Progressive blogger, remember?  Those people really do think that the Right cares about that sort of thing.

If you’re going to attack the Governor’s integrity/morals/religion, etc. you should actually seek out a smart person to do it. Someone with a fact or two, and maybe even a clue.

Haley was elected by the people, a fact which continues to rankle SC liberals as well as the GOP establishment.

    Go Nikki!

This whole episode stinks. It reminds of the Democrats who filed endless ethics complaints against then-Gov. Palin in order to bankrupt the Palin famiily; worse, no action could be taken against the Democrats who filed these frivolous complaints, despite the harm done to the Palins.

I have no doubt the misogynist and racist Democrats in SC (yes, I went there because it’s true) will continue these unethical attacks against Gov. Haley in order to drive her out of office. It’s all they have.

this is the best self-beclowning I’ve seen since the last Romney supporter posted anything.

  • streiff

they’ve been the source of the Haley hits.

  • jeffreywturner

There are still some good ole boys in the GOP here who turn their nose up at Nikki for the same reason they didn’t like Mark Sanford (ie: she isn’t enough of a “team player”).

“best self-beclowning I?ve seen since the last Romney supporter posted anything”

I don’t care who ya are that’s funny right there!

That he’s not shunned is an indictment of the SC GOP.

  • veritaseequitas

Team player = do as I say not as I do. It has lost any kind of meaning it once had.

In some places where one party has complete dominance, the intra-party fights can be worse that the inter-party ones. I’m thinking SC & KS on the Republican side and DC on the Dem side.

Gov. Haley endured the first smear in her campaign against Andre Bauer & now this fabrication. Is there any connection? Who knows. But there’s a bigger picture.

While the focus on the South is usually about the contrived racial instability, this is one of those cases, along with several others, that show good ole’ boys just don’t like strong ladies who function outside of an X chromosome.

    Move along.

    they, it, would never lie.
I suppose this is what is meant by a “story” appearing in the depths of the Net and going viral. If it’s on your screen it’s true ? No, but it does contribute to an alternate universe, the reason we are stuck with dementos on the verge of violence.

No matter what the libs say, I smell a HarPOOTlian behind it!

Nikki Haley is a joke. She is all about cronyism. Gave her unemployed husband a job as soon as she got elected. She gave pay raises to her staff as soon as she got elected. She rewarded her pharmaceutical buddies, the Kennedy’s with a contract to expand their business.

Her approval rating is going down and I am glad, even among her own so-called base which she basically won office riding the coattails of that hack Palin. She is a fake that championed the Tea Party to get elected off the basis of breaking up the ‘good old boy’ system but then became a part of it. I can’t wait until she’s a one-term Gov. even if that means SC has to have a Democratic Gov. for a 4 year period.

@RobinSmith why is this a “fabrication” you don’t know the facts. This isn’t the first time she’s been tied to an IRS scandal. Just google “Nikki Haley, tax returns”. She is all for herself and corrupt in scandal like the hypocrite she is.

Some in Tea Party cite ‘buyer’s remorse’ with SC Gov. Haley

First, I really love that you give the Miami Herald as a source on all things South Carolina – that is really reaching, son. “Tied” to an IRS scandal? Setting the bar a little low there, aren’t you? “Tied” to unappreciative idiots and backstabbing Republicans in South Carolina is more like it.

And if you are shilling for a Democrat governor in SC, you are an even bigger fool than your post would lead one to believe.

  • brettstevensmn

Since they can’t find something real, they just make up an outlandish story, run as hard as they can with it, and then when debunked, ignore the dishonesty of it. Reminds me of that “banker” who supposedly left a 1% tip and the Huffpo ran it and it went viral. CBS then published it was a complete fraud yet a bunch of my coworkers still believe it because exposing it as a hoax was left on page 28. So, it just affects the minds who pause on it and never think to delve into the truth of the matter.

  • http://moelane.com/ Moe Lane

No, really. Governor Haley isn’t actually persecuting you on behalf of the lumber industry for your advocacy for pot; in point of fact, she isn’t persecuting you at all.

I was half-tempted to get you all paranoid over your inability to completely cover your tracks, but even I have my limits; besides, I call it The War On Some Drugs myself. So just… leave.

    Moe Lane

*It should be depressing to contemplate that as of last Wednesday I officially became old enough to say that to college students. Fortunately, 42 is actually not… that bad an age, really. Certainly it’s a lot better than it looked to be at 21.

hope you didn’t spill your KoolAid on the keyboard while typing. Thanks for posting…..RS readers can always use some comic relief from comments like yours.

I was responding to LOL above.

  • habeumnominee

Except for those idiots who think that not voting for Romney in the general election will somehow improve the country.

  • SoFiMil

The primaries are not over. You’re hurting your candidate rather than helping him. But even worse, Romney would be pleased with how much disdain you have for us.

  • streiff

consequences, I stand ready to disabuse you of that misperception.

  • jeffreywturner

That used to be a good thing – it meant a reliable, trustworthy person.

  • jeffreywturner

it shows that the SC GOP is not anti-gay.

    ;-)

The term “good ole boy” now is a negative term.

supporters, 20% or so say they will sit out if he isn’t the nominee. Well, support whom you want so long as we all show up on super Tuesday. Would be nice if it weren’t the Smitten Progressive. I forget the percentage of Santorum voters who said they’d stay home. Regardless we have a lot of cry babies and Obama loves them all.

  • myron_j_poltroonian

Well, since she’s “Allegedly” tied to a “Tax Scandal”, she’s ready for the current administration’s cadre of tax cheats, non-filer’s and mis-placer’s of other people’s investments. Right? “Bring on her appointment. I’m sure ol’ “Land Deal” Harry’ll rush her right through.
