FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Comparing the Colombian Prostitute Scandal to Operation Fast & Furious.

As in, comparing the reaction.

So, we now what the priorities are when it comes to American law enforcement officials acting badly. Secret Service agents who patronize, then refuse to pay, Colombian prostitutes? People end up getting fired, investigated, and generally have their careers blighted, within days. DEA/DOJ officials who put cop-killing (and Mexican-civilian-killing) guns into the hands of Mexican narco-terrorist gangs? No firings. The bare minimum of non-Congressional investigations. Certainly no career blighting. It’s an… interesting… contrast, especially since nobody died at the hands of government fools in the first case and quite a lot of people died at the hands of government fools in the second.

I think that my readers know quite clearly why this is going on; but they would like somebody to come out and formally say why this is going on. So here goes: the reason why the Secret Service is getting lambasted by the Obama administration and the feds caught up in Operation Fast & Furious are not was because the highly unprofessional actions of the Secret Service put members of the Obama administration - including the President – at increased personal risk; in contrast, nobody on the White House staff is likely to be shot by a drug gun that was run into Mexico by the DEA. Put another way… when it comes to reacting to federal agents acting badly, the administration puts threats to its personal safety and comfort first through tenth; the concerns and needs of survivors of murdered flyover country law enforcement officers dead last; and dead Mexicans? Not at all.

PS: If you’ve never read The Ugly American, pick it up. It’s dated, but from what I remember of the book its portrayal of the average American higher-level staffer as an arrogant and pigheadedly ignorant buffoon is being almost perfectly duplicated by the Obama administration’s hiring procedures these days.

It is still not entirely clear what happened in the prostitute incident, but it is sad, although not unsurprising, that people are getting jumped all over for it, while serious blunders that cost lives are virtually ignored. You are right about that.

But sex scandals sell, and can be easily understood by even the most politically ignorant among us. I am not sure how this got to be news, really. I don’t know what news agency picked it up first, or exactly why. It was probably intended to hurt Obama. (The coverage, I mean, not the incident.) But in all fairness, it should not be news, even if a few Secret Service guys got fired. It was just a little incident. Also, it is entirely unclear who to blame. Obviously, the guys wanted some kind of something with prostitutes, but beyond that, I cannot tell. One Spanish-language news clip that I watched on youtube (sorry, forgot the link) said that a girl had said that the cost would be $30, but later, after she realized they were with Obama and figured they had money, demanded $800. When they refused to pay it, she got the hotel manager involved. I would like to know how it got out into the media. It may have been for vengeance on the part of some player in the prostitute system down there, or it may have been some anti-American, anti-Obama thing. I wonder if the Colombian media picked it up first. I have no idea.

Of course, you really don’t know who to believe, but this story sounds somewhat credible, more so than the idea of the guy offering $30 out of the blue, or ‘refusing to pay’. But sex ‘scandals’, once respectfully considered off-limits in American politics, are now the coin of the realm. To our significant detriment. What goes ’round comes ’round, and whose mind and hands are totally clean.

He would have just rented the whole brothel.

Secret Service guys balling a bunch of whores on there own time poses minimum risk to the personal safety of the Pres, but casts a shadow on his political safety. Thus much ado in the MSM.

But F&F, on the other hand, was directed by the WH and intended to set the stage for a dramatic crackdown on gun sales/ownership, which, as everyone knows is devoutly to be wished by the Pres, the left and the MSM. As everyone also knows, it is the intentions of a program that are important to the left, so the actual results (increased border violence, hundreds of Mexican dead, a thumb in the eye of the Mexican Government, and exposure of the bumbling incompetance and lack of coordination among various government agencies) can be overlooked.

Operation Gun Runner ads focusing on the coverup and compare it to the Iran Contra boondoggle. Not quite as big but close to home considering Americans have been shot and our Mexican neighbors fear more US guns will be used against them. Latino’s might think twice about supporting Obama over Romney knowing their families may be at risk. Its worth a few points to improve latino support and to hurt Obama with facts ignored by the corrupt media. Media tend to cover issues raised in ads, the internet shall do the best but we have to strike Obama on all fronts.

cohorted with hookers and booze. This time things are different but once again the SS dropped the ball. These people should take more cool down time from the whitehouse and transfer out to the Treasury office a couple of times a year.

Supposedly intelligent/elite agents making big bucks get busted for squabbling over, for them, very small change over illegal transactions that costs them their careers?

It makes me wonder if the whole thing is a setup or is it as bizarre as it sounds?

At any rate I guess these folks never learned the etiquette of waiting it out until the whole thing blows over… mmm….

How do you make a SS agents moan? Get the hooker to reject their government credit card…

  • http://pocketchangeproductions.net/ anotherindyfilmguy

the swift reaction is because it is the SS detail that protects the O’s life etc…

Fast and Furious prosecution is being stonewalled because it is a career ender for Holder and Obama, while the SS agents pose a security risk to the same guys and no one wants the O to be taken out because of bad security because then we’re stuck with him a martyr and possibly the gaffe a minute possibly insane/corrputocrat Biden as our next POtuS.

  • Common_Cents

obama routinely blames and throws people under the bus, that’s easy.

they will do anything to distract from F&F because the obama admin has culpability and were directly involved.

  • MF

The issue is a little too involved to be understood by Joe Beerguzzler. It’s not that complicated, but the reasons behind everything done are what are also important. Plus, LSM won’t want to cover it because the underlying attempt by Obamites to throw in more drastic gun control is what the liberal LSM also want.

  • checkmate2012

The cost was $800 and the SS agent only offered $30 and thus the prostitute told a Columbian police officer about the incident on the way home; she allegedly didn’t know the guys were SS until a week later.

Also, it was reported that another SS agent not involved in the incident told someone about it knowing how dangerous the situation was & it could have jeopardized the president.

More to the point is why this does matter, just like fast and furious and the GSA scandal since the tone is set at the top. While he may not be personally responsible for all bad apples (except for F&F IMO) he is responsible for setting an example of ethical behavior and conduct throughout govenment as the CEO. It seems that bad actors are doing bad things because they CAN under his leadership or lack thereof.

  • gekster

wern’t they there in Columbia scouting ahead for the President.

    Hmmmmm……..

    Does Michelle know about this?

    Or “cohorting” or whatever. lol.

subterfuge the facts to try and paint Obama as innocent. Its a big story and the online ads are out there already. TV ads will impact the public.

The issue is largely involved despite you’re excuse for the public who are smarter than you care to admit. I’ve seen the media cover issues they ignored on the nightly news when campaigns address issues, its their way of covering their arses.

  • MF

You’re right that the LSM will cover for Obama. But I think that, although many people are smart enough to understand, most of them don’t make the effort to understand, especially when the the fake story will be trumpeted long and loud, and the real story will get buried despite our efforts.
