Florida (link), Wisconsin (link), Minnesota (link)… am I forgetting anybody?  If so, let me know in comments.

[UPDATE] Oh! And Connecticut.  Sorry about that: I was reminded of that one in comments.  I need a better link than this, too.

But I don’t think there’s anything interesting going on.

He seems to be defeating Rep. Stearns.

    Here’s his website: http://www.tedyoho.com/

Mostly standard conservative stuff…but I’m most impressed by his want to eliminate the Department of Energy.

What do you all think? Will he be better than Stearns?

I’m not enthusiastic about McMahon, but I believe she’s a thousand times better than Shays.

Look at how many tea party straw polls he won! The interesting thing is Rep. Stearns is already conservative (Heritage Score: 80%)…could the voters be wanting somebody even more conservative?

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

“5:30 PM PT (David Jarman): Switching briefly back to Florida… Ted Yoho has actually pulled into the lead in FL-03. With 77% reporting, he now leads Cliff Stearns 34-33 (with Oelrich at 18 and Jett at 15). Might be time to start familiarizing yourself with him. Yoho ho, a tea partier’s life for me…”

If Ted Yoho is as tea partyish as he says he is…then that will be a great thing. Rep. Stearns is pretty conservative though…so this is kind of shocking.

(He’s not like Jean Schmidt or John Sullivan who voted for the Budget Control Act. Stearns actually voted against it.)

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

    WE WANT 90%+…no more 80%+!

    http://www.sunshinestatenews.com/blog/cliff-stearns-continues-struggles-tea-party-straw-polls

Rep. Stearns is the third incumbent to be caught napping. Kind of shocked though…an 80% Heritage Foundation rating isn’t good enough for the voters anymore????

Club for Growth gives him a lifetime rating of 87%.

But Yoho very well may become the next representative in congress if everything holds out…and RINOs should be trembling even more (considering an 80% isn’t good enough anymore). That is something that makes me smile. :)

    1. Thompson
    2. Hovde
    3. Neumann
    4. Fitzgerald

    I voted for Hovde.

Hey guys, I’m usually just a lurker but I actually know a bit about the district because I live right next to it (im in Corrine Brown’s). Basically, Sterns has worn out his welcome, its not really about how conservative he is, its more that hes been n Congress for like 20 years, has done nothing, and wasn’t very good with constituent outreach, which explains why he still has 2 million CoH and was caught napping. Also, the accusations that he tried to bribe James Jett to leave the leave were very damaging. The race between Jett and Sterns got pretty nasty, and Yoho has been the clean candidate, constantly promoting conservatism while not getting stuck in the mud, which is why I think he’s winning

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

Rep. Stearns is a good man and has a pretty good conservative record. Do you think Mr. Yoho will be just as conservative (if not better)?

  • Kyle-MI

and allow the least conservative candidate to walk away with the nomination.

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

As I said in my diary entry earlier, if Hovde or Neumann wins, I will be happy.

Thompson is okay, but his remarks about Obamacare kind of annoy me. He seems pretty strong that he will oppose it.

Either way, we MUST UNITE TO DEFEAT BALDWIN! She can’t be allowed to be sworn into office as senator.

Senator and Baldwin…the two should not be in the same sentence.

  • ctredstater

I was pleasantly surprised to see her decisive win over Chris “Can’t We All Get Along” Shays, former House member.

McMahon is a self-funder – and she has already spent a ton of money getting name recognition in CT – in these two Senate races. She was the nominee against Blumenthal for the Dodd seat – and never really left the scene – keeping her profile high.

She has done a good job with basic conservative themes – low taxes, a plan for job creation, etc. It likely would take a miracle for her to win – but if the Obama campaign does a Carter-like collapse, she might be the longest of long shots. One thing she will do is to force the dems to expend resources to take the seat.

She will run against Murphy, a Congressman. He is a classic. trying to run on “works across the aisle” – with a lifetime ACU rating of 4.

Good news that we didn’t let Shays get the nomination. His lifetime ACU rating was in the 40′s, and he racked up a number of years in the 20′s. It was one of those situations like we had in Delaware – with the super embedded RINO vs. the upstart ‘sort-of-tea-party’ type.

Given how red this state is, I chalk it up as a modest, though probably ultimately not very significant win, for our side. the polls I had seen showed Shays with a lead, so I would take this as an indication that McMahon’s “base” was more motivated – kind of a nice little “tea party” feel to it.

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

Another great conservative going to congress. :)

  • maxwellsdemon

I have seen nothing from Yoho to suggest he wouldn;t be conservative. Will he be more? I honestly cannot tell you, Sterns was pretty conservative, I doubt he will be less, probably more in my opinion if he can, we’ll see I guess, still has to win the general

  • ctredstater

what interests me is that with 92% of voting in, Republicans have 1.1 million votes cast – Dems have 800K.

    encouraging sign.

    Ted Yoho REP 21,717 34.34%

Any rules for a runoff if no one gets a majority?

I’ve seen Stearns in action during House hearings and find him to be strong on accountability and getting to the truth.

As much as we hear, throw them all out, we need some good guys with experience. 80% rating is pretty good.

  • bs61

I’ve been emailing discouraged 80 year old’s all day today that the Tea Part is hear to stay!

So in my own dreams, I see a blowout in Nov!

  • Freiheit

Jim Demint did endorse him after all.

  • http://llphsecondrevolution.wordpress.com/ spoasteph97

That was his problem.. He never communicated with his people, and they never heard from him again.

There are enough good conservative leaders currently in congress: We have Reps. Broun, Blackburn, Jordan, Garrett, etc.

Lesson: You MUST stay in touch with your constituents. Even if you are so conservative, you have to communicate with the people you serve…otherwise you are not a true representative.

  • carolina

    and, no run-off in FL
Yoho has more than a .5% lead

  • checkmate2012

He had a full coalition of the tea party behind him..

    Roll Call Article: http://atr.rollcall.com/florida-cliff-stearns-faces-prospect-of-surprise-primary-upset/

They said that this was the Ted Cruz story of Florida. :)

The Tea Party is taking over. Stearns is a good man, but he didn’t keep in contact with his voters and he didn’t keep up with the conservative wave.

I also like how Yoho proudly says he will eliminate the Department of Energy…that is GREAT!

    You got it right, exactly:

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

Both Connie Mack in FL and Tommy Thompson in WI are in a strong position to win. It’s funny that last week, politico ran one of those “Democrats are gleeful conservatives won a primary” type of articles. Maybe they spin up another “tea party dead” article since Rep Mica won and Tommy Thompson won.

  • tskcoug

Stearnes was running in the new FL 3rd district. Most of his support was in Marion County generally and Ocala specifically. This new district only has the eastern 20% or so of Marion County, none of the City of Ocala, and runs all the way to Jacksonville. Stearns was my congressman for the 7 years or so that we have lived in Florida. He has done well, as far as I can tell, and I would have voted for him on Tuesday but my part of Marion County is now in a different district.

  • congressworksforus

Thompson’s fiscal record was pretty good as governor, but he scored low enough in the primary for a challenger to unseat him in 6 years if he goes all RINO in D.C.

Assuming the other candidates throw everything behind him to defeat the left-wing nut-job on the other ticket, Thompson should win, and hopefully take the right message to D.C. knowing that the other 2/3rd of Republicans are waiting to chew him up if he screws it up…

  • lmiller25

What’s interesting is that, according to the Heritage Action scorecard, while Stearns has an 80%, Allen West, who everyone (rightly) sees as a Tea Party hero, earned a 69%. Compare that to John Mica’s 66% and Sandy Adams’ 82%. Perception can often be more important than reality.

Scorecards are really helpful but they don’t always tell the whole story about a member of Congress and his or her effectiveness. I suspect tskcoug is right about redistricting, though I think Stearns sitting on his campaign millions and seemingly not taking the race seriously is a contributing factor.

I used to work on the House Energy and Commerce Committee on which Stearns sits (and is a senior member and subcommittee chairman) and attended hearings faithfully, engaged the witnesses and offered amendments at markups. Admittedly, I have no knowledge of his engagement with his constituents in the district.

We’ve seen a number of incumbents lose this year. Competitive races help keep our representatives engaged, which is great and necessary. But I think it’s also important to remember that just because a candidate *says* he is the more conservative candidate doesn’t always make it so, or make him the best person to represent us.

  • tskcoug

I just looked again at the FL district map and I confused the 3rd with the 5th district. The 3rd contains the western 30% of Marion County, still excluding Ocala. I know that Cliff Stearns had to move his residence to run in the 3rd as his house is now in the 11th District, which has the remaining 1/2 of the county.

He was conservative enough that Allen West had been running commercials in support of Stearns for the past few weeks.

Such are the vicissitudes of politics!

  • streiff

in fact, as a freshman congressman he can’t even get such a bill to the House floor for a vote.

But I think we all know that.

  • commonsenseobserver

But satisfied with Thompson’s and McMahon’s win. The latter is surprising.

  • commonsenseobserver

    Shows how dysfunctional Washington is.

  • JSobieski

For example, Paul Ryan has in my opinion moved the political ball more effectively in a conservative direction in DC than Bachmann has, but Bachmann clearly has a more conservative portfolio of votes (and Bachmann has more of an impact than most).

We rely too much on scorecards and conventional in the box thinking. Politics is dynamic.

  • http://travismonitor.blogspot.com Freedoms Truth

It was curious how some Erickson endorsements were ‘home run’ easy to say yes too (Mourdock, Cruz, Rubio), but Neumann got a lot of flak from Redstate cheeseheads. A flawed conservative cant beat a more electable lesser Republican.

Tammy Baldwin is fairly leftist, so we should be pleased that a state that had 2 Democrats not too long ago may have one strong conservative and one center-right Republican representing them, assumin Thompson wins, which he is in a good position to do. Not bad for a supposedly ‘blue state’.
