FRONT PAGE CONTRIBUTOR

Karen Harrington (R CAND, FL-23) invites Paul Ryan to campaign in her district.

I happened to be on a conference call with FL-23 candidate Karen Harrington, who of course is the person facing DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in the general election. So it’s going to be a tough race; after all, if there’s any seat that the Democrats would be personally embarrassed to lose, it’d be this one. But when I asked directly whether Karen Harrington would welcome Paul Ryan campaigning for her in the district, she replied:

Absolutely… it would be a honor to have someone of Paul Ryan’s stature. Absolutely: not just because he’s the Vice President [nominee]; if he didn’t accept that role, and it was just Congressman Paul Ryan I would welcome him.

I bring this up because a number of people started this week by suggesting that adding Paul Ryan to the ticket would hurt the GOP downticket, particularly in states like Florida. While that argument seems to have largely died off – mostly of embarrassment, apparently – I would be remiss in my duties if I didn’t point out that Republican candidates and politicians don’t seem to be particularly nervous about the Ryan pick. In fact, the default emotion that I’ve been detecting seems to be relief

Moe Lane

PS: Romney-Ryan reported: 10.16 million in online fundraising in the last week; average donation, $81; 68% were first-time donors. 45K new volunteers signed up in the last week, too. I guess that the base is equally relieved.

Also: how did Obama-Biden do, in terms of raising money last week? I only ask because they were planning to fundraise off of the Ryan pick, too: I was merely wondering how they did.

They are afraid. They are worried. They are so concerned they are digging for anything scandalous to mar or taint Ryan so as to make him toxic to anyone who associates with him. They have some experience with toxic candidates. Just look how badly anyone did on their side in 2010 who was even remotely associated with Hopey McChange the healthcare clown.

Ryan is not a liability and his “radicalism” should become a rallying point., Instead of trying to ‘wash away’ the ‘taint’ of radicalism, use it. Have Ryan and Romney admit that they can see how the President and the media feel Ryan is a radical.
If you do not believe that the work of individuals shoul be rewarded becase ‘they “did not do it” themselves’ then, of course, a person who believes in the value of the individual and individual contribution would BE a radical.
If you think that the government should control the people instead of the people controling the government, then anyone who believes that the US Constition is a great document which preserves individual rights and limits government has to be a radical.
When your opponent throws lemons, make lemonade.

in the liberal-leaning D.C. suburbs of No. Va., we’re preparing for a huge turnout to hear Paul Ryan speak.

I’ve casually mentioned the rally to total strangers in restaurants, in the grocery line and at the gas pump. 100% positive response. People ask what time, how do they get tickets, etc. People really like this guy.

To me, this is a day of joyful celebration and represents a turning point — we listen to this guy and get him elected, or pack for Venezuela.

There were so many way the VP pick could have gone wrong. Some of the names on the list were downright scary.I have to give credit where credit is due and this was a home run by Romney. He passed the first big hurdle with flying colors.

I’m getting 3 e-mails a day from the DNCC asking for cash ($3 or less):
    ‘jittery’, ‘disturbing report’

    And this lovely gem:

I just got this disturbing report: Yesterday?s Romney-Ryan rally in North Carolina pulled in an overflow crowd of 15,000 people.
There?s no spinning that number. It?s a LOT of people, and the Republican base in energized.

…and politicians don?t seem to be particularly nervous about the Ryan pick.”

It’s only the professional GOP managers who are.

    …got news for you, you won’t have to move anywhere…if Bevis(Biden) and B-utt H-ead (same initials-O ) are re-elected “Venezuela-North will come to you…

Hugo and Obama would be holding weekly radio addresses together to announce the nationalization of Baskin-Robbins (site of First Presidential Face-sucking Event) and the conversion of all Chik-Fil-A restaurants into Organizing for America lounges.

At least the weather is kind of nice in Caracas, though . . .

People don’t want to be accused of racism and therefore say they like the guy but disagree with his policies. Team Obama is going to be shocked at how badly this guy loses.

Romney is no Reagan, but he’s competent and successful and he’s such a contrast to the utterly vapid and mean spirited Obama and his Marxist theme song of class warfare.

Ryan… he’s sincere, committed, serious, and impossible NOT to like.

Biden? He’s a defective wind up doll full of hot air and bad idea. Affable Joe is one thing, but angry, race baiting Joe is a pure turn off that combined with Obama’s mean streak on top of their dismal record is the doom of the Democrat re-election hopes.

No time to get cocky, but don’t be surprised if this is a wipeout that makes 2010 look gentle and loving.

  • commonsenseobserver

    In Ann’s words. :P

I have a feeling Middle America is thirsting for a team of a proven Mr Fix-It and a courageous reformer. America’s comeback team means fighting for Main Street by bringing real change to Washington, and it’s time for them to start making that case. Especially as the Obama campaign and media smear their background, family, and financial matters.

Appearing in DWS’ backyard would be the best opportunity to showcase the contrast and point out how Democrats are the real out-of-touch, arrogant elites.

  • dodgeone

your correct when you said people will “say they like the guy but disagree with his policies” but a lot of people here in IA argue, yell, call you names letting everyone know how much they believe in the One an all that he stands for. I’ve even see post in the online newspaper about the many gaffs Mitt makes or as some call/refer to them as Mittstakes.

  • gbenton

of population… they are Obama’s loyal bots. They are vocal and loud and vicious and small in number… like OWS.

Most polls I’ve seen from credible sources show a net loss of independents for Obama since Obamacare passed.

    And there was 2010.

What has happened since 2010 that would dramatically alter the dynamic that washed away a generation of Democrats and several high profile RINO’s?

Would Obama have won had he run for re-election in 2010?

November will be the first time that nation gets to tell Obama how they really feel from the privacy of the ballot box… and I just don’t think it’s gonna be pretty for the Dems. I hope I’m right, too.

  • firedup22

Ryan sponsored the “personhood” amendment for the entire nation: fertilized eggs would be full human beings thus making The Pill, The IUD, and In Vitro Fertilization illegal. Welcome to the Christian Taliban in the US.

Ryan’s budget would put seniors in the poor house or worse- unable to afford healthcare, unlike Cheney- many seniors would die from their illnesses. Hospitals are filled with seniors who have heart disease, diabetes, cancer. No voucher would let them have access to the healthcare they would require.

    You’re only embarrassing yourself.

Both have English-speaking populations, that hopefully can be overcome with enough American John Galters inbound to craft the American Dream once more. That’s assuming we don’t stay and fight of course.

  • gbenton

and your Obama approved talking points about vouchers and access are a farce considering Obamacare requires the looting of $716 billion from Medicare.

Romney/Ryan are serious about saving Medicare, Obama is only serious about golf and saving his own job.

You will want to keep that in mind if you are truly concerned with seniors (also, see IPAB ‘Death Panels’, who will ration care and help those hospitals shuttle said seniors off the Medicare balance sheet via de facto euthanasia by denying treatments).

But you keep up spewing your talking points. Seems like that’s all you got.

This is Ryan at the Villages in Florida with his mom.. One of his best speeches so far. Wow. Entire crowd is over 55 years of age.

Ryan nails every single narrative. He doesn’t shy away from anything — goes so far as to say we NEED a Medicare debate and welcome it. Strong language. No teleprompter. His stump speech is brilliant.

If he gives this speech everywhere, to enough people, it will create strong word-of-mouth buzz.
