Ron Johnson is here to stay

Feingold Johnson

From Unlikely Voter: When Ron Johnson showed a lead over Russ Feingold in the Wisconsin Senate polling, it could have been a fluky outlier result. The incumbent Democrat could still have been safe.

Rasmussen again has Johnson ahead, though, so that theory is ruled out. The lead is tiny, but looks real.

I call the lead tiny, and the 48-46 (MoE 4.5) advantage Johnson shows is one of the smaller ones there is. By itself it shows a 58/42 split, with Feingold having that 42% chance of being up.

So was the last lead, which shows Johnson up 47-46. It was even tinier, obviously, and managed a 54/46 split. But probabilities multiply. If we combine these two polls, we get an 82% chance Johnson has squeaked ahead.

In this climate, national Democrats and independent progressive groups are already having to pour millions of dollars into unlikely places like California. Is Wisconsin next on that list?

One final note: even with Feingold showing weakness, Dave Westlake is still running markedly behind as Feingold is ahead of him 10 points. Between that and Johnson’s GOP Convention endorsement, I’m about ready to call Johnson the presumptive nominee.

I know, I know, Wisconsin elected Thompson multiple times and still put Feingold in office. It’s not even a purple state, it’s more of a “light blue” so to speak. But polls have Walker ahead too, Rasmussen’s latest today has the split 50/43 and this is a midterm election. Chances are that there will be some ticket splitting but the farther Walker gets ahead, the greater chance there is of a coattail effect.

Feingold has had a history of looking vulnerable and then winning by somewhat comfortable margins, a lot like Boxer actually. But this is definitely a winnable race in this environment; probably as likely a GOP win as Illinois and more likely than Washington or California.

and legislative races are huge for WI–plus there are tight house races in WI7-WI8-WI3.

This could be a huge GOP year in WI.

Having attended many of his listening sessions he only hears what he wants to hear, he is a big government pompous a$$.

He has used his PAC dollars to help many of the Democrats that made back room deals with Pelosi/Reid to pass Obamacare such as Nelson and Landrieu.

The Republicans running in Wisconsin this November are some of the best Republican, conservative candidates to run in a long, long time. We’ve got County Exec. Scott Walker for Governor, Ron Johnson for Senate, Dan Kapanke and Sean Duffy for Congress, and a whole host of amazing candidates ready to take back both the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate.

It’s no doubt that County Exec. Scott Walker in running for Governor will more than bring long coattails to the November elections. Wisconsin right now could be on the literal edge of of turning into a light red state from light blue.

But honest to God, we’re going to have some extreme campaigns in Wisconsin that are going to be THE front line this November.

telling me Johnson will win…and Walker for that matter, too. Now my vote doesn’t count and I won’t have to go to the polls (sarcasm is off now).

Johnson and Walker are 2 excellent candidates

Just curious who was the last Republican US Senator to represent Wisconsin?

  • Zack

    This is excellent news.

And the answer to your question is Bob Kasten.

Yes Feingold has got to go. However, WI has two senate candidates. I know you were using sarcasm. But we first need to go to the polls on September 14, 2010.

Dave Westlake is the WI people’s choice for US Senate, not the outside of WI choice for the people of WI. www.davewestlake.com

    I AM DAVE WESTLAKE!

    Reid Ribble, WI 8th http://www.ribbleforcongress.com/

The “honorable” Dr Kagen deserves to go back to practicing medicine under the bill he so proudly helped to pass.

Ron is the type of person that we need in office. He has no political experience and falls into the category of a citizen who wants to take the country back from obama, Pelosi, and the Libs. We need more people like this running for office….

  • GCBWI

Bob Kasten…..who served two terms and was beaten by Russ Feingold.

My experience in politics is that people like to know that their candidate has a chance … I know more people sit at home when they think there is no chance than when they think they have one.

I wonder what the GOP turnout in California (for instance) will be like this year versus past years just given that there is a chance for a win this year.
