Corbett steady as Toomey and Sestak joust

Onorato Corbett

From Unlikely Voter: While the Pennsylvania Senate race has lived up to my expectations of volatility (Rasmussen has swing from Pat Toomey +8 to Joe Sestak +4 back to Toomey +6 most recently), the race for Governor has been pretty boring.

No matter how many times this race gets polled, Republican Tom Corbett defies the recent partisan trend of Pennsylvania and consistently leads Democrat Dan Onorato, most recently by 11.

In fact, I cannot find a poll Onorato has led, so even Rasmussen’s biggest skeptics can’t really question this latest 50-39 lead for Corbett (MoE 4.5).

And as long as Corbett keeps winning among independents, and bringing along a fair number of Democrats besides, this race isn’t going to get interesting, either.

the Democrat party is having trouble with traction in PA. I have a college friend there who works at the Department of Environmental Regulation along with his wife. In the time since then he has pretty much become a kool-aid drinking Dem and even he is fed up with the complete incompetence of the current administration. I have another friend who is a librarian who was laid off as a result of school budget cuts, she’d not happy either. Progressives are always happy to spend other people’s money, but when it come to spending their own, they start looking more like Scrooge McDuck.

Dan Onorato is hated even in my hometown of Pittsburgh where he currently rules as County Executive. A few years ago he pushed through a very unpopular drink tax on poured alcoholic beverages. Local bars and restaurants plaster his face, along with members of the county council who also voted for the tax, on their front windows saying that they aren’t welcome in the establishments. On most restaurant’s sales receipts, you will see the drink tax itemized as “The Onorato Tax”. I’ve even seen signs in business windows that read “Democrats against Onorato”. There will be a lot of Democrats coming out to vote for Corbett.
