Both Bill McCollum and Kendrick Meek have struck back against their respective challengers Rick Scott and Jeff Greene. Meek has campaigned hard with Bill Clinton, while McCollum has done different things depending on whom you ask.
Regardless though, Quinnipiac shows both candidates on top as the Florida primary nears.
For the Republicans running for Governor, it’s been an interesting race to say the least. McCollum seemed to be the likely nominee, but then Rick Scott came and made it a race. Lately McCollum has fought back, and Quinnipiac suggests his counterattacks have worked, as he leads 44-35 (MoE 3.5), a large lead with a small margin of error, late.
For the Democrats running for Senate, I’m not aware of the race getting quite as nasty as the GOP Governor side, but both sides are working to win, and now Meek is ahead in this poll 35-28 (MoE 3.6).
Primary polling has been terribly unreliable this year, but as always, we go into the election with the polling we have, and for this Florida primary we have a lot of it. Pick a candidate, and you can pick a poll show him him ahead. So let’s hurry up and get to Tuesday so we at least know who our candidates are!

Good news for Rubio
Castor (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 5:08PM EDT (link)McCollum will not be a drag on the ticket for Marco Rubio as would have been the unelectable Rick Scott(Sorry Erick). The democrats were just itching to SINK their teeth in him(pun not intended ; you make the call.)
I´m assuming McCollum will win ,but as Yogi said, “It´s not over until it´s over.”
Meek will assure that Marco will grab a lead after primary day and not look back at the quickly fading Charlie Crist.

I don't know

Well Scott isn't doing any better as there is now
Michael Dugas (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 6:26PM EDT (link)another company, that he is involved with, suing him.
I took part in early voting and in the end I couldn’t get past the baggage
Scott is toting around. There is NOTHING about McCollum that excites me but Scott and the skeletons fighting to get out of his closet
worried me more.

You mean the "oh, gee, yes, I'm the state atty general but I had no idea..."
cwilson (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:31PM EDT (link)stunt, where a McCollum supporter served Scott a summons during a press conference? Where this supporter was suing because his son “might” want to buy insurance from Scott’s company?
The same nothingburger story that McCollum shopped around to the papers but nobody bit ’cause there was no there there, so he then stooped to this stunt? (Then claimed he “had nothing to do with it”)
It’s the good ol’ boy network, protecting their own and pulling political stunts against any outsider, again.
I’m TIRED of the 2#%!@#$!#$#@#$ good ol’ boy network in FL. THOSE bozos are the ones that winked at Crist and Greer’s criminal embezzlement…and got us IN to this mess that USED to be the FLGOP — but is now a shambling wreck.

Scott
redtillimdead (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:46PM EDT (link)Is doing much worse in polling against Sink and has a lot more vulnerabilities. We should be hoping for Meek and McCollum wins. Meek is the stronger Dem candidate, which hurts Crist, as he is depending on Green winning for him to get enough Dems.

@Castor
mboyle1988 (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 5:15PM EDT (link)You think Scott is unelectable? I voted for him by absentee ballot before the Tallahassee incident. I think McCollum is unelectable because he’s lost twice statewide and has basically no personality. Also, I’m concerned about his fundraising ability.
Then again, Scott has a bad business record, as it turns out, and a temper to boot.
Basically, I don’t know whom to vote for. This is a race the GOP should not lose. Florida is one of the most Republican states in the nation at the state level, and we have two democrats to split the anti-conservative vote.
McCollum won state wide the last time
Castor (Diary) Thursday, August 19th at 9:26AM EDT (link)It´s true that he´s not exactly thrilling, but he is the leads A.G against Obama´s healthsnare. He´s polling ahead of Sink and his credentials are conservative enough. I talked with him years ago when he was a congressman and was impressed with his grasp of constitutional matters.
Huckabee to anoint McCollum
chihank Wednesday, August 18th at 5:24PM EDT (link)Huckabee is taking credit for Nathan Deal’s victory over Karen Handel. Huckabee likes to see himself as a King Maker. Huckabee will campaign for McCollum.
Also Haley Barbour’s RGA is backing McCollum over Rick Scott. The RGA feels that Rick Scott is over the line in attacking McCollum.

Glad Not to Be FL Voter?
Locke (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 6:05PM EDT (link)I am one and I haven’t made up my mind yet. But I’m not sweating it – I trust the hundreds of thousands of other primary voters who will make the decision regardless of how I vote.
When I vote, it will be almost entirely to increase the margin of victory – by a tiny amount. And if it’s a 1-vote election? I don’t buy lottery tickets or keep track of what might happened if did.
I Have Decided - McCollum
Locke (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:04PM EDT (link)If you were Sink facing almost sure defeat against an unopposed McCollum, what could possibly make you happier than (a. a strong third party conservative candidate, or (b. a self-financed Republican primary candidate who would beat up your opponent and force him to exhaust his resources before September?
Why should Scott want to be Governor that badly anyway?
On the other hand – Scott’s candidacy has surely increased popular awareness of McCollum and maybe that has helped.
McCollum
ktsub (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:19PM EDT (link)I sure had written off McCollum, but he has fought back, like I never expected. Either way it will be OK, Sink has skeletons in her closet.
Looking at the Poll Results
Locke (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:09PM EDT (link)more closely, I see that Scott (or something) has driven McCollum’s negatives from 19 in June to 30 in August.
Possible heated recount fight in FL
chihank Wednesday, August 18th at 6:25PM EDT (link)The polls are all over the place in the FL Gov primary. Some have McCollum in the lead. Other have Scott leading. The primary has been brutal.
The Gov races in GA and WY were heated and headed into recount territory. But the losers in the primaries declined recounts and rallied around the winner.
If either McCollum or Scott win by less than 1%, I could the both of them suing each other over a recount over the primary results thus eanbling Alexa Sink to win the general election.
Explains why O gave Meek a big ole hug today
tngal (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:08PM EDT (link)Let’s see….hadn’t been that long ago that he hugged Crist. Careful Marco he’ll be huggin you next! The guy is a hugign’ fool depending on whichever way the wind blows.
Don't Get it, TNGAL
Locke (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 8:54PM EDT (link)O wants Crist, Meek having no chance
….and Crist does best with Meek out and Greene as the Dem
….and hugging Meek helps Meek and therefore hurts Crist.
You think O’s hugging Meek helps Greene and therefore helps Crist?
Anyway, I’m sure O would hug [etc.] Bin Ladin if … he had a chance.
ralatredstate, I'm thinkin' Obama would
tngal (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:42PM EDT (link)Bow to Bin Ladin if given the chance. He likes to do that too, dontcha know.

Rentin McCollum
Paige Dulli (Diary) Wednesday, August 18th at 9:23PM EDT (link)CSX railroad gave McCollum’s 527 $25K the day (2 wks ago) that McCollum told the Lakeland Republican Club that “The Governor’s Office is not for sale.” (in addition to $$ already donated to McCollum’s campaign directly and $$$$ donated to the RPOF, to be spent on McCollum’s campaign.) That’s the same CSX that got $641M from taxpayers in a sweetheart deal RR track sale – the most expensive rail sale in the history of American rail sales, at $10.5 million/mile, compared to the national average of $700,000/mile. And the lobbying firm that brokered the deal between Florida Dept of Transportation and CSX, and who heavily influenced legislators to vote for changing state law to allow a for-profit corporation to pass its accident liability onto the taxpayers — a deal-breaker demanded by CSX — was the SAME lobbying firm/law firm that McCollum worked for when he was in-between elected offices (lobbying for bank corporations). Oh, and Atty. Gen. McCollum approved the deal and the legislation making taxpayers liable for CSX’s accidents on the shared freight/commuter rail corridor. And who was the head lobbyist on the CSX deal? John Thrasher of Jacksonville (headquarters of CSX), now a Senator and now the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida.
And by the way, the freight traffic that will be diverted from the commuter rail corridor through Orlando will be coming through Lakeland on its way to — and back from — the Intermodal Logistics Center (aka, Mother of all Rail Yards) that the taxpayers are building for CSX in Winter Haven (another CSX stipulation). The additional freight traffic will destroy Lakeland’s carefully revitalized downtown district. Lotta nerve McCollum had, saying that to the Lakelanders, who were clueless but starry-eyed because McCollum knew Reagan.
I will vote against Sink in November
RedBeard Wednesday, August 18th at 9:36PM EDT (link)That’s the only position I can take in this sickening race.
Sure would be nice to have someone to like.
But then, I’ve been voting against Dem presidential candidates since 1988, so I’m used to this depressing nonsense.
