Boxer doing triage in California?

Boxer Cutout

The word “triage” keeps coming up in talk of Democrat strategy lately, as the Democrats have to give up seats or even whole states for dead, leaving candidates to fend for themselves (presumably to fail).

Barbara Boxer is continuing that trend. She has a new television ad out, which the Sacramento Bee points out is running in “the Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego media markets.”

That’s interesting because of the markets it leaves out: the ones right down the middle of the state, including Bakersfield and Fresno. Boxer is giving up the bulk of the central valley to Carly Fiorina. In fact Stockton and Modesto count as part of the Sacramento Television Market Area, so technically we don’t know if the ad will be shown there, either, or just in Sacramento proper.

Barbara Boxer is conceding some paths to victory, and is banking on the coast plus the capital to take her to victory. That’s a narrow road to walk, especially when LA County could go either way. It’s no wonder her new ad does not contain the words “Senator” or “Democrat” in it at any point. So even as she pulls up things she did 9 years ago to justify being re-elected this time, she’s afraid to run on her party.

Don’t try to tell me it’s our party that has the “branding” issue, thank you very much.

If this ad is the best Babs can do, well Carlie is doing very well indeed.

“It?s no wonder her new ad does not contain the words ?Senator? or ?Democrat? in it at any point.”

Hahhhhhhhhh! Time to retire Ma’am Boxer and the private jet of Nancy Pelosi’s (and her close friends and family.)

I she trying to tell the people of California she is going to put them to work making windmills….?

I think one reason she may have gave up on the Central Valley is she stood by and watched their water get shut off and did nothing. It’s going to be tough for her to talk about jobs in a place that got strangled by the federal govt. and they have a %40 unemployment rate.
Maybe they can got to windmill college.

If she’s going to run any ads out there she might as well run them in Spanish, there might be some remnants of the Hispanic vote that she could pick up.

Otherwise, it’s hard to imagine anyone whose living depends on Central Valley agriculture, either directly or through various degrees of separation, voting for anything remotely Democrat this cycle.

The polarization in this state between the coastal metropoli (and the government-dependent canker of Sacramento) and the rest of the state continues to grow.

I was quite surprised to just see an add by the NRCC to replace McNerney. I’ll watch and see if the Boxer Ad comes on. I am in Sac and SF market area.

That is the problem for us, in a word. Sure, except for Sacramento, almost everything east of the Coastal Range is red. But, it is outnumbered by the population to the west of the Range. So, unless Carley can pick-up significant support in the SD suburbs and around LA, she won’t make it.

Demographic determinism is their belief. It’s not fact.

Get on the phone, send them an email. Make sure they are voting for Carley! ( and the R in their Congressional Districts too!)

if anyone has a dime to spare, give it to end this shrill woman’s political career. She upbraided a serving General, telling him SHE had earned her plaudits, as if he did not. He is a gentlemen and took the female domesticated carnivorous mammal’s insults in stride.

She is the most pompous cretin we have in the Senate. If we don’t do everything possible to rebuke her, then I am not even sure what we are doing here.

McNerney’s district is an area that is still heavily agricultural, but for the past decade or so the Bay Area commuter effluent has been trickling over the Altamont and puddling in the Tracy area.

The Democrats have been willing – nay, enthusiastic – participants in the dismantling of the Central Valley economy and hopefully Jerry won’t escape his well-deserved share of the blame.

I’m trying to be objective here, but I think if I was a ‘swing’ voter seeing this ad I would simply have rolled my eyes of the inanity of it all.

But I think this ad points up Boxer’s main problem: she *can’t* put out “positive” ads, because she has nothing positive to say or run on! – there’s nothing she can really point to in her record as a positive accomplishment worth trumpeting.

Frankly, after seeing this ad, I don’t think Boxer should even bother with this anymore – just go negative from here on in: it’s her only chance.

It’s true – if this ad is the best Boxer can do, she’s toast.

And I can tell you that we’re turning out for her. The local Republican party is doing a good job of organization and getting the message out (finally erasing that embarrassing registration advantage the Dems held in the county for a while), and I’m optimistic about our chances here.

Hopefully the rest of the state helps us retire Babs, and keep ol’ Moonbeam out for good measure.

  • securitymom

Which is why Richard Pombo lost the seat. The district now is encompassing parts of San Joaquin, Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara counties.

If either of them are dependent on the turnout for the other, they’re screwed.

  • JEM

It’s an embarrassment that Jerry Brown’s squirmed his way back through the rest of the Dem worms to get back to this part.

  • Adjoran

Boxer would be the sweetest to beat. She’s not only an extreme leftist, she’s extremely loud about it. And dumb . . . at least some of the other Senate dummies like Murray have enough sense to stay away from microphones most of the time. Boxer would trample a crowd of old ladies with walkers to get to a camera.

Its always tough to win statewide in California, but this is our year, we’re gonna do it, and this is fantastic evidence of that. I’m really glad that we nominated a real Conservative instead of that liberal guy, I saw on TV just yesterday that Fiorina had stated that she ‘won’t run as a moderate’, she’s going to stick to her Conservative principles all the way, she’s going to win this thing and she’s going to make an awesome Senator! As for Moonbeam, he’s definitely going to help us win this thing too, he’s actually been out there attacking Bill Clinton, if you can believe it. He actually had to issue an apology to Bill for attacking him at a campaign event on Sunday! Is it possible he was having flashbacks, and thought it was 1992 and he was running against Bill again? :) In any event its great to have opponents like Brown and Boxer to run against, Brown makes winning easier, and Boxer makes winning so much more satisfying :) .

  • The_Gadfly

We’ve been told that if O’Donell wins, the Dems will pour money into that race. Which means that money has to be pulled from other marginal races elsewhere. Not sure that’s enough to pull the lever for O’Donell if you don’t think she will win the general, but it is a factor. And if you think she can win the general, all the more reason to pull the lever for her.

  • SIConservative

Anyone else find it funny that PAC for a Change is run by someone who’s been in DC for nearly two decades?

  • vendoc

Just kidding. I agree 100%. Pompous cretin….that is a term we can use for some other incumbents. Love it!
