Donald Rumsfeld was the epitome of a PATRIOT! I despise all who tried to take him down. That man did more to ensure the safety of this wonderful Country then any other man or woman after 9/11/01. He has my eternal respect! Thank you Mr. Rumsfeld.

It wouldn’t be half as awesome as Donald Rumsfeld!

It is sort of heartening to see how in virtually everythign they do and say out of office, allow us to be wholely proud of having supported them. I know no one who tries to distance themselves from them….

Throw Condeleeza in for good measure too.

I guess the left has Bill C and Al G who they still seem to hold in high esteem, but they often seem to feel underwhelmed by their fantasy people in reality….

    he’s tried to distance himself…
    sarcasm off.

  • jackhammer

and I am told some true conservatives like Andrew Sullivan have as well….

…there were mature adults in the White House,
…our leaders were unashamed to love this country, and
…we had a Sec. of Defense who understood what defending this country meant and didn’t give one hill of beans about political correctness.

Thank you Mr. Rumsfeld for your many, many years of service to the United States.

Donald “aspartame” Rumsfeld the guy who got the FDA to okay the toxic drug after he left Searle and was in the government and able to twist arms. They knew at Searle how toxic it was and tried to hide their test results. How about the contaminated vaccines they gave to our Desert Storm troops. Now there is what I call a “Real Patriot.” Yah right.

I would vote for him if he wanted a politcal office of any kind.
A partiot and honest man who could tell you how to kiss it with finesse and make you really WANT to.

    The correct order is Rumsfeld/Cheney.

    An important distinction.

I have always believed Iraq war was necessary. He claims his generals did not ask for more troops. I somehow find that unbelievable. So what was he doing when it was going badly? I also don’t believe he was not consulted by Bush.

I am usually very supportive of military. Rumsfield might be a good guy. I just find his Iraq strategy confused at best. Whatever excerpts I have read of his book, nowhere have I seen him say… well maybe I could have done this differently. I find that strange.

PS: You don’t have to throw “Dem talking points” at all opinion that doesn’t match yours.

Reading then whole book, or at least the Iraq chapters, before passing judgments? Or maybe reading some of the documents?

    Just a thought.

He worked standing up. Served his country with honor and distinction for decades and that worthless POS from Scranton, Pa had the gall to tell a witness before his committee”Don’t pay any attention to Rumsfeld. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
Am I in trouble for saying Scranton, Pa.?

As I said my opinion is based on excerpts that I have read. Also a lot of my opinion is based on how I perceive things. Maybe I am completely wrong. I am open to educating myself.

Do a little research at www.rumsfeld.com.

I wouldn’t want to prejudice your conclusions and I am interested in what you think of both the book and the site.

I was in the Navy in January 2001 when the names of President-elect Bush’s cabinet nominees were being released. I was a toddler during the Ford administration, so I had no idea who this Donald Rumsfeld guy was.

Soon after, an e-mail called “Rumsfeld’s rules” appeared in inboxes all over the Navy. I read it, and was instantly smitten in a professional sort of way. My idea of DoD civilian leadership had been based on the aloof, government executive model of the Clinton appointees. Now the new Secretary of Defense was interested in little old me. He expected great things from little old me. I didn’t want to let him down.

The more I look back on what he did, the more I am clear how great a man he is. Listening to his interview tonight with Sean Hannity made it even clearer.

Rumsfeld had it right and he did it right.

Might I post ACID STAR in response?

It has been interesting over the last week or so to hear/read a number of things with the release of the Rumsfeld book just as I happen to be finishing my reading of the George Bush memoir “Decision Points”. There is no question that life in the highest levels of government are tremendously complicated and the common man just has no idea how much is at stake on a day to day basis.

We have no idea of the daily threat level and the difficult job of taking intel as it arrives and making decisions accordingly. It is so easy to Monday morning quarterback it all. The Lib/Dem establishment that is all for defense and war until they find it politically expedient to no longer be for it makes me sick.

What a striking contrast between the Bush/Cheney/Rice/Powell/Rumsfeld team and the group of jokers we now suffer through. I most sincerely hope and pray that we never have to really be tested by war with this current group at the helm. I’ve been holding my breath for two years, and I may barely be able to hold it for two more. Four more years after that would likely be fatal.

I remember thinking when Bush left office that history would be far kinder in judging his performance than the MSM (spit) of the day. I still believe that. And I think history will prove to be a little harsh on Obama & Co.

Thank you Rumsfeld, Bush, and others. You weren’t perfect, (no one is), but you did a hell of a job in a very, very difficult time.
