Rep. Max Rose (D-NY) is a Democrat from New York. But he’s from a district that went strongly for President Donald Trump in 2016.

He’s reflective of that district. Translation: expect to see some sense from him on occasion.

Rose appeared on Fox with Neil Cavuto to talk about the issues going on with Iran and he made it clear he was not in favor of restricting Trump’s military options to respond to Iran.

From Daily Caller:

“Congressman, you place your limits here,” Cavuto prompted. “You are against this measure to limit the president’s powers here.”

“Absolutely,” Rose replied, and after wishing his host a happy new year, he got straight to the point.

“Let’s be clear about what this happened over the last several weeks. First of all, the killing of Soleimani, it was legal, justified. Nobody should mourn the loss or the death of someone with the blood of U.S. soldiers on his hands. He was a terrorist,” Rose explained.

He said he thought that the AUMF, the authorization to use military force that’s more than 20 years old, needed to be looked at and reviewed. He’s absolutely right on that.

Barack Obama used it as an excuse to justify his drone strikes around the world and his actions in Libya without any pushback from Pelosi or the Democrats in Congress.

Trump’s actions were actually related to being attacked in a war zone, killing a combatant who’d already been behind multiple attacks on our forces which killed one American and wounded others.

Rose explained that there were multiple justifications for killing Soleimani including the AUMF, Article II of the Constitution and the fact that he’d killed hundreds of U.S. military members and wounded many more in the past. “I think about people I served with in Afghanistan who this man nearly killed.”

Rose admonished the Pelosi move saying that such things should be dealt with in seriousness, not with “messaging documents and straight-up politics.”

Eight Democrats went against Pelosi including Rose: Reps. Ben McAdams of Utah, Joe Cunningham of South Carolina, Elaine Luria of Virginia, Kendra Horn of Oklahoma, Stephanie Murphy of Florida, Josh Gottheimer of New Jersey, and Anthony Brindisi of New York.

The resolution has no teeth but is meant to make Trump think twice about utilizing military action to defend Americans and that’s something he shouldn’t have to do. His only thought should be – is this the best move for the country? – not whether his Congress is going to undercut him or try to impeach him if he acts to protect America. Democrats are literally putting America in danger with such moves and good on Rose for calling out such moves.
