It’s hard to imagine a mayor more despised than Bill de Blasio (although Mayor Jenny Durkan may be coming up on the outside a little in Seattle).

But he just added to it, big time, with the actions taken today.

The NYC Parks Department was spotted in Williamsburg was caught welding the doors shut of the Middletown Playground to prevent children from playing in the park.

This was following a protest the day before at another park in Brooklyn, demanding de Blasio “end the madness” and open up the parks and playgrounds.

This despite de Blasio allowing a massive rally for thousands of people for black trans lives just a few blocks away.

Plus joining protests and having his mask off at various points.

His excuse from a few days ago for not opening up playgrounds?

Uh huh. It’s fine for him, it’s fine for thousands to pack into a small area, but it isn’t ok for kids to play outside, when kids are far less likely to contract it plus it’s very rare to catch it outdoors. Plus it’s actually helpful for kids to be able to get out and get some Vitamin D, which actually helps in the defense against the virus.

So is it more about the fact that folks dared to protest him?

Some thought it was just another part of what some think is de Blasio’s seeming continuing attack on the Jewish community.

Meanwhile, making it worse, some other parks are open in other areas, according to reports. The city denied that.

In April, he threatened the Jewish community with arrest after a big Orthodox Jewish funeral in the Williamsburg area. In May, he had the NYPD shut down a yeshiva class.

After the news about welding the park shut broke and a local assemblyman complained, they reversed the welding but the park is still closed, chained shut, as far as we know.

Meanwhile he’s telling the contacts tracing workers for the city not to even ask people if they went to a protest, so that will likely skew people being able to trace virus spread back to protests.

Can we say worst mayor ever?
