MEMBER DIARY

On The Eve of This Election

Promoted from diaries. – Moe Lane.

Over the past month, I’ve been thinking about November 2nd. Quite a bit in fact. Every day, posts about various candidates are posted and almost all of us here at RedState read them eagerly, gleaning what we can to keep us optimistic. Before I can talk about the present, though, I need to go back to two years ago. Two long years ago (and it does seem like an eternity). I had gone to the polls with a heavy heart, knowing that our side had only the slimmest of chances to pull it out. November 2008, a month and year that brought despair and depression to many. Truthfully, I don’t think we knew how bad it would be, but instinctively we knew that something “wicked this way comes.” A dark cloud settled on the nation.

Those aren’t dramatic words. The country soon learned what a Barack Obama presidency brought. We have endured one piece of legislation after another, and executive orders and czars to fill in wherever the president couldn’t quite push something or someone through the regular channels meant to provide checks and balances for overzealous branches of government. Democratic control of all three Federal branches of government enabled and ensured that the beginning of the transformation of America would commence. And it did. Progressive/Socialist policies have brought an explosion of debt to America for generations to come. Her economy is weakened, there is high unemployment with a longevity not seen before, and ultimately the Democrats initiated the final assault on Americans and their freedom by passage of the healthcare reform bill against our will. Everything the Democrat/Socialist/Progressives have done is to bring us to dependency on the government and the State. I’ll leave it for another day to discuss where such central planning and control takes us. But, out of all the things that President Obama and the Democrats set out to do, there were two results. One they hoped for, and the other they did not expect. They hoped for success in passing their legislation; yes, they did succeed and we cannot forget that. What they did not expect is the peoples’ response to their efforts to deprive the people of freedom and liberty. They did not expect the people to rise up and speak out. They thought they could fool the American people; after all, they are the political class/ruling class and know what is good for us.

What about this unexpected response by the American people? Who are we? What do we all have in common? We are Conservatives, Tea Party activists, Independents – bonded by our desire to pull our country back from the brink of disaster. Socialism would be a disaster; just look at the countries of Western Europe; look at Great Britain. 2009 and now 2010 have been about finding and supporting candidates that could help defeat and remove from the Halls of Congress those that would bring such destruction upon America and The Constitution. Primary elections have seen the defeat of establishment politicians from both sides of the aisle. We’ve all given time, talent and treasure. There is one thing left to do – vote.

The ballot we cast is as much against the Democrat/Socialist/Progressive agenda as it is for all that we love about our country and wish to see restored. Those ballots are much larger than any of us could have realized two years ago. Multiplied by millions, they give us a voice, a voice that won’t stop with November 2nd, 2010. It is a vote of such vastness it cannot be contained. First, let me tell you what we are voting against in November.

My vote is against President Obama/Pelosi/Reid and their Socialist/Progressive agenda.
My vote is against the Communists who have seeped their way into the public consciousness and walk about with an air of respectability.
My vote is against another Bart Stupak betrayal against the unborn.
My vote is against a government that would enslave the people to generations of debt.
My vote is against the narcissism and elitism of a political class that seeks to be rulers over free Americans.
My vote is against Liberalism’s revision of history and their takeover of our educational system.
My vote is against a mainstream media that is like a malignant tumor across this great land.
My vote is against the corruption of government and a bureaucracy that lacks common sense.
My vote is against those that would take my freedom as an individual and my birthright as an American.

Now, what casting that ballot on November 2nd means to me, and I believe, all of you.
This year I will be casting my vote with optimism and the knowledge that our work is not yet done.
My vote is for The Constitution. That extraordinary document written so long ago by our Founding Fathers to establish a nation that would be self-governing and the people free. It includes those “Inalienable Rights endowed by our Creator.”
My vote is for the individual to succeed in his own right, on his own merit.
My vote stands for families, for future generations. My vote stands for the unborn – that they may live.
My vote stands for the elderly, the sick and disabled – it stands for humanity and humility.
My vote stands for the oppressed – to show them America and how we are free.
My vote stands for freedom of religion, not from religion. I want to hear the church bells ring again.
My vote stands for a judiciary that supports the Constitution.
My vote stands for America and her awesomeness…her exceptionalism, her flag, her honor and her dignity.
My vote stands for her military – those who have died to keep her free, and those that die today that others may be free.
My vote stands with everyone else’s vote – for America – with love and pride in a nation that does not fail to open her hands and heart to the world.

Last, but not least, there is one very important vision that my vote stands for this November -
that someday we’ll be able to once again have someone in the White House who loves this nation, and her people. A country should have a president whose eyes gleam and who can speak with love for his people and his country. Someone like the President of Chile, Sebastian Pinera, who believed in his people and their abilities, who spoke proudly of their fortitude, and had tears in his eyes when he met with the rescued Chilean miners. His people wrapped themselves as tight as they could in their flag, and he was one with them.

Yes, someday, I hope for a resident of the White House who genuinely believes in this country, the America we all know and love. Then we will no longer have the pictures that show a man acting with disdain and coldness towards his fellow Americans. You see, Mr. Obama, my vote November 2nd will be for a future for America, and not the one you have planned for her.
Yes, someday. And the first day is November 2nd.

We’ve been working tirelessly for 7 weeks, laying bricks for a new jail to place these criminals in, and today you come in and lay the mortar. I hope everyone reads this, it is the summation of all our hopes and concerns for America and her future.

    • gdpitzer

To save money, I suggest we first send them to Gitmo. Seriously, these are high crimes and treason committed by socialist bent on destruction of our Country. There is no other way but to jail the traitors.

  • mriggio

Perfectly, exactly on-target. Godspeed on Tuesday!

    • penguin2

involved with the political world like so many of us have been. But everything seems come back to this one and overriding cloud – that we have a president who has disdain for us, the American people. Perhaps many had doubts, but figured that there would be checks and balances provided by the Congress. The lie of that has been clearly shown.

Now to begin to take our government back and save our country. The alternative remains as unthinkable to me today, as it did two years ago.

  • http://hillbillypolitics.com Steph C

How can one purport to lead a country he doesn’t love? I didn’t say hate as it will some more time will prove that but Obama certainly doesn’t love it.

How can legislators farm out legislation that they can’t be bothered to read before they pass it?

How many times must one forgive a liar (whichever liar it is at the moment)?

Some one thing about socialism in Europe and how it has failed. Europe desperately wanted the U.S. to be more like Europe and so it is. Does Europe still want us to be like them? Did our nation becoming more like them hasten the failures in Europe?

Something to think about to be decided upon in future work that you point out needs to be done. Once we get through next Tuesday, hopefully with victory in spite of the cheating at the polls, we might want to rethink our role in the policies we have that have allowed Europe to be Europe. Not instituting isolationists policies but more along the lines of letting them walk on their own, stop being a crutch they depend upon so easily.

    • penguin2

the most difficult one for me to understand. Never have I known a president to be so anti-American. The irony? It is the wonderfulness and greatness of this country that provided incredible opportunities and a richness of life (and I don’t just mean monetary), for him to have succeeded beyond one’s wildest dreams.

Yes, the work really begins November 2nd; this is the starting point, from here there is so much to do. Walking ourselves back from the brink of following the failed policies Socialist Europe, is critical to our survival.

Good to see you and thank you for the comment and reco. Good luck to all of us next Tuesday. :)

  • JadedByPolitics

his political opponents and his Country so much. I have absolutely NO respect for this interloper who has tried to bring America to her knees to make her pay for some perceived evil; this Country is the last best hope for mankind and to treat her like a doormat has been the most infuriating for me personally. I have disliked many Presidents and many, many Senators and Congresspeople but I have NEVER believed any of them to truly HATE America until this group elected in 2008. Everything they do and everything they say is a direct attack against all that is good, America deserves better and she will be getting that on November 2nd!

    • penguin2

Haven’t wanted to admit it or say it out loud even. But I believe that this president despises the American people, and he has surrounded himself with others who think the same. They started coming out of the woodwork, as soon as the vote was counted in 08. Now we have to show up and let them know we’ll not let them steal this country.

Especially the part about what we for!

    • penguin2

with so much to be grateful for. And the things my vote stands for are a part of what makes America the nation she is – beacon of light in the world; I will not let it be dimmed.

What I have seen this cycle beyond anything I’ve witnessed in my years of politics is the number of women who have risen up and said “No More!”

For years these women have been busy doing the vitally important work of raising the next generation of Americans and running households, often while juggling a job outside the home.

And while they were building the next generation of Americans, the Leftists in general, and women who hate themselves and America in particular, have been tearing it down.

Well, no more! The Mama Grizzly’s have seen the destruction wrought by those who cringe at American’s greatness, and the the harm they would bring to those who suckled at their breasts. They have singularly and collectively risen up and said “Enough!”

To you, and all the Ma Grizzly’s out there, I extend to you my most profound and heartfelt thanks. You have been an inspiration.

    • janis

manage to turn a peaceful Penguin into a fierce Mama Grizzly, they have really gone so far wrong that there is no coming back. We intend to drive them from office, investigate their doings while IN office and then let the indictments begin.

And a little Penguin shall lead them….. :-)

The little penguin is a peaceful animal, but don’t you ever, EVER threaten her chicks. And that’s what this bunch has done, they have presented a grave threat to all our chicks.

      • penguin2

the Mama Grizzlies. I’ve admired the numerous women (and men) who have spoken up loud and clear. Never had I felt so afraid for my country and my family as I did in November 08. When something like that happens, you find that you will stand up and protect that which is threatened. Can’t think of anything that means more to me than my family, God and Country.

Though I am still just a little penguin….on the march. :-)

Thank you both for your wonderful support. It keeps me going.

        • janis

Without these pieces that call to our hearts and souls, we would only have the pieces that dissect the news, introduce the candidates in other areas and inform us all of the fraud that has been found so far. As important as those pieces are, they do not inspire us as this kind of piece does.

Your piece is like the sound of the trumpets that would call the troops into action before a major battle. The sound would alert the troops that a charge into battle was to begin. That clarion call stirred the heart, touched the soul and caused hundreds, thousands, to charge forward, heedless of the consequences to their own safety, knowing only that a battle must be fought and won.

Your piece does the same, penguin. Thank you for sounding the clarion call!

and I knew it would be. It will be tweeted and retweeted . . . to be read nationwide and beyond.

The conservative grassroots . . . on the prowl, taking names, accepting no excuses. Ladies lead the way.

    • penguin2

But it is great to join with so many fellow Americans and work to retake our country. Thank you for the tweets and retweets, never realized how wonderful twitter was, learning every day. :-)

    O, black-and-white-one-from-the-Antarctic!

This is exactly what I needed to inspire my last week of beating the bushes for every last vote (though we’re mostly finding empty bushes as the good folks need very little prodding this year!).

I will pin this up on my wall and share with all my friends.

    Godspeed, o sphenisciforme!

      • penguin2

Yes, thinking about the election this way, helps so much. It isn’t necessarily about the individual races, but every race and every vote is to preserve this great country. The only way we can do it, is by reminding ourselves what it is we are fighting for, and never forget.

Good to see you and thank you again.

  • LtE113

I’ll tell you this…I never dance in the end zone. But, the House is looking good…and we’ll get close enough in the Senate. Hope we take that too.

    But I’ll say this…

If Boehner is the Speaker…we’ll lose it again.

If McConnell is Leader we’ll lose that too…again.

There has to be a movement to put someone else in those spots…Bachmann? DeMint?

I feel more confident…but it’ll be the same old, same old with Boehner and McConnell in there

    • banzaibob

said he won’t stand by for another six years to see continued spending and debt. If he breaks from the GOP I hope many others do the same and I will follow close behind.

      • rbdwiggins

We’ve just begun the “fundamental transformation” of the Republican Party.

      • eburke

On November 3rd, we finish in earnest the job of taking back the rest of the Republican Party.

        How?

By following ColdWarrior’s Precinct Project strategy and ushering in a whole new army of American-loving, Constitutionally-literate Precinct Committeemen into the Republican Party.

We have not yet begun to fight!

    • rbdwiggins

      of a genuine grass-roots movement.

The focus has been Nov. 2nd.

      The scrutiny begins Nov. 3rd.

Washington-establishment Republicans will operate under an intense public spotlight for the next two-years. Which, undoubtedly, will be an alien environment for many, and promises to be very demanding for some.

Especially, since they are expected to eliminate the federal budget deficit and balance the budget on the back of the federal bureaucracy, not the American taxpayer, and they will be held accountable.

My advice to them is simple and straightforward:

“Lead, or get in the back of the bus.”

      • rbdwiggins

The bus is still careening toward the cliff at break-neck speed. Although most of the American people have already abandoned the bus, it’s still pretty crowded.

The remaining occupants really need to be aware of one critically important detail:

There’s no brakes on the bus…

    • penguin2

But hopefully the new folks voted in will go to Washington, remembering why they were sent there. In time, we will sift out the wheat from the chaff. Need to do it over a couple of election cycles and I believe that the major GOP fundraising groups are learning the hard way that we know how to direct our financial support to candidates who really represent our views – and not the political establishment.

  • Russ Martin

For putting into words, the feelings that so many of us share. Every time I hear a Dim/Lib/Progressive speak ill of our country, I am dumbfounded as to how they can see our country so differently than I do. Faced with the overwhelming amount of history that demonstrates the goodness and greatness of America, they choose to focus on the negatives, real, or imagined. Additionally, in spite of all of the historical evidence of the failed track record of socialism and its associated evils, they continue to try to move us incrementally down that path.
Fortunately, many Americans are waking up and recognizing them for what they are – Socialists, Statists, Elitists, Enslavers, Liars, Cheats, and Thieves.
We will make them pay on November 2nd.
We must, however, work to ensure that November the 2nd is the beginning, NOT the end, of this fight. It is Lexington and Concord, not Yorktown. It is Doolittle’s Raid, not the ceremonies on the Missouri. We will have much more work to do, beginning on November 3rd, 2010.

    • penguin2

would tear down this country. You are right, I am more concerned about Nov. 3rd, because we are only on the first rung of the ladder we must climb.

      Thank you.

  • cookcountyconservative

thanks for a great diary – I have shared on facebook. i hope it makes my lib friends think a little.

    • penguin2

I love being a “worker bee” or in my case a penguin. But it is about getting the citizenry to recognize what is happening to our country. We are not Europe, we are America, a great and wonderful land, with a people that give generously, always, to others. Those that would denigrate and diminish the goodness of America, do not belong in office. November 2nd is the beginning…..

      Thank you.

      • http://thesandsinstitute.org Vassar Bushmills

…as Janis said, “and a Penguin shall lead them” has a certain ring to it.

Hell, you have your entire campaign staff right here, already assembled.

        And we’ll work for free.

        • penguin2

Considering how brutal the game is, I’m surprised that anyone would go into politics. Still, I’ll support those that do, and leave it to wiser and stronger folks to man those particular ramparts.

  • banzaibob

My wife and I have made our votes count and I hope all conservatives do the same thing. But remember the work has only begun starting 11/2/10 and we need to start following through starting 11/3/10, Hold their feet to the fire.

    • penguin2

No rest for us, as those that would tear down this great nation, continue to plot and scheme to pull it off. We have a great challenge before us…..

  • runner12

what a great piece of writing. You expressed what so many of us are feeling right now and how passionate we are about taking America back and standing for what our Founding Fathers intended this country to be about.

    • penguin2

how precious our country is. We had grown complacent, but I would say this happened partly because we were intimidated by the Left of decades. We kept taking a step back when they pushed. Now we must never back down.

  • TxTess

eloquently put. I wish I could borrow some of that eloquence to explain to my liberal family members what the conservatives stand for and get them to change. What I need is a little talking penguin (along the line of Tickle Me Elmo), but speaking this diary. You always get your point across just like Julia Sugarbaker only nice.
I tried to recommend, but it would work for some reason.(I’m using a Mac for the first time and it is a a strange new world)

    • penguin2

I realized that there wasn’t anything in that a liberal could honestly refute. I mean if they were honest with themselves, and they aren’t. Their agenda goes against the very foundation of America.

On the reco: They tell me once a member diary is promoted to the Front Page, as the editors so kindly did with this post, the reco button disappears.

I plan on posting the ‘for’ points myself – right next to the computer – thoughts that I can hold onto, no matter what the day brings.

      Thank you.

    and on your side.

    • penguin2

It helps all of us to be on the same side, supporting each other. Thank you so much for your kind words.

  • Brian Hibbert

This is inspiring to those of us who have been working to win this election and sums up the reasons most of us are doing it.

It’s heartening that many of the socialist’s attacks have been backfiring. I think the attack on the U.S, Chamber of Commerce should be the most telling for most Americans. They have identified the Chamber as the bourgeoisie and are trying to demonize the organization. Fortunately, all but the hard core Dems and the true believers in the socialist cause can see that the U.S. Chamber represents the heart of America, the corner drug store, the mom and pop shop down the street, and the people who employ the majority of Americans. Obama tipped his hand too far on that attack.

    • penguin2

antipathy for all things American, in concert with their Marxist/Communists friends, has been an eye-opener. Their insidious takeover, astounding. All we can do, is what you and so many others Americans are doing, stop them in their tracks. Call them out and expose them for the anti-Americans they are. They won’t stop with their agenda for a Statist government to run everyone’s lives, and Statism leads to full-fledged tyranny. We must push back in order to remain a free people.

Thank you, so much, for your input. Sorry, I am late in replying. Been a busy day!

  • Castor

We are thousands of miles away and our absentee ballots have been received in Florida, but there is one additional vote we must all ask for on sunday in church and that is the most important of all.We need not only the intervention of divine providence to help us vanquish the arrogant one and his coterie of marxists, but also to make the republican leadership realize that they can no longer go along to get along. Thank you again, Lady Penguin and hopefully at about 1 or 2 AM on the third of november we can remember what Winston Churchill said after the victory at El Alamein, “Now this is not the end.It is not even the beginning of the end.But it is,perhaps the end of the beginning.”

    • penguin2

The election of Nov. 08 brought out of the woodwork these Socialists, Marxists and Communists – ready to initiate their agenda. They’ve been hidden and protected all of this time, by the Democrat party. And to realize that they are really anti-American, and despise her people….I could hardly believe it. But believe it, I do.

Yes, I do pray for this country, and that the work of the Founding Fathers, who believed in a Being far greater than themselves, and designed the blueprints of this nation with those beliefs, well, we pray that we will endure.

      Thank you, Castor.

I have been almost physically sick with worry about the future of this Great Nation.

I look at my two beautiful children, one who is a grown man, a combat infantry Marine, and the other who is still an innocent young girl, cuddling her stuffed animals and singing unabashedly aloud in the shower. I shudder at the thought that their future is being stolen from them. They were not even born here, but brought here to embrace this country as their own, out of unconditional love from their birthmothers and from me.

I owe these children everything I have in me to fight against the tyranny that would deprive them of the freedoms I enjoyed for the first 49 years of my life, before … before That One came here to destroy us.

We are the enlightened ones who will need to be strong and fight for those who are less astute, less wary of the danger, and easily mislead.

We are duty-bound to fight for the less fortunate, the less endowed and the gullible child-like among us. We do this out of unconditional love of our countrymen.

God Bless you, penguin, and God Bless America.

    • penguin2

that election in 2008. Dark days and such a feeling of helplessness. Then, we’ve seen the Leftist Liberals ignore the will of the American people, and the challenge was seemed insurmountable. But with fellow activists across the nation, we have stood up – making many voices – one.

May God Bless your son for his service to this great country. Your children, and my children, and the those not yet born….that is who we are doing this for.

      Thank you.

      • http://www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com ColdWarrior

Proudmarine mom and penguin2, you are correct that Opuppet and his minions are trying to destroy the country, and that they are ignoring the will of the American people, according to all reputable polls.

But, please don’t forget that there was a poll taken in November, 2008. And that poll, on Election Day, is the the one that Opuppet and his minions can point to and say, “But, but, but, the American people elected US, not you Republicans. We have a mandate.”

I say direct some of your anger at your friends and family members you may know who voted for Opuppet. The 53 per cent of the American voters who voted for Opuppet are to blame. And all those Republicans and conservative independent voters who stayed home on Election Day, 2008, are to blame, too.

I never blamed Opuppet, as he’s doing everything he said he would do, if one listened closely enough during the campaign and examined what little bit of evidence of his life came to light. Rather, I blame all of the people who voted for Opuppet, all those who stayed home, and all of us (me included) who didn’t do hardly enough to help GOTV for McCain and Palin in 2008. I am hoping and praying that those who so casually voted for this charlatan, or who stayed home and didn’t even bother to vote for McCain and Palin, will vote this time. If my memory serves me, in my precinct alone, 107 Republicans were too damn busy, or something, to vote in the 2008 election, and 122 independents were too busy. So I developed a plan to contact all of them, dividing up the calls and door knocks among me and my fellow PCs in my precinct. We simply urge the Republicans to vote and “survey” the independents with four “voter attitude survey” questions, encouraging those who give the “right” answers o go to the polls and vote for the Republican candidates because the Republicans candidates agree with them on the four issues presented by the questions. If the independent doesn’t get the “right” answers, we say thank you and leave.

What will be really interesting after the election is going back to the Republican voters who did not vote in this election and asking why they did not vote.

        Thank you.

I have said something like this awhile ago but I must say again now. It is such a privelage to be able to read the words from such great people on this website. The character, class, morals, etc of the people on this site is just fantastic. What a great diary. It is comforting to me to know that there are people – out there – living in their towns – somewhere in America who have these thoughts about their country and want to save it from the enemy. What I see in my everyday life is becoming almost a twilight zone filled with liberal mush. I know that when I come here to Redstate, and read something like this, well, all I can say is that I will sleep better tonight.

of wonderful writing and thought. It helps to be with like-minded people in this battle to take back our government and restore our country. After Nov. 08, that helped the most, learning that we weren’t alone in our concerns, nor our efforts.

I so appreciate this RedState community – with its faithful witness of faith in what America has been and can be as a light in a world careening towards a millennium of darkness that would even, if it could, shroud us from the glimpse of the world to come in saecula saeculorum.

And I appreciate the people RedState community, so varied in our life stations but coming together in common affirmation and determination – from across this nation and able to learn about each others’ walks – and to know that we are not along but that in joining together there is strength and comfort.

When I watched the rescue of the Chilean miners, and the response of their president that night, the stark contrast with ours was shocking, I have never been able to forget the picture of Mr. Obama standing, and appearing detached – I knew then that this was a man who really did not feel the pride and love that we had for our country. He simply does not have the American Heart.

All of the work we’ve done, especially this past year, has been driven by people who still love this nation. This country does not have to be perfect, no nation is, but she is worthy of our love and respect, and her people deserve a leader that has gratitude, not disdain.

I loved your “for” and “against” statements. I am so looking forward to Tuesday. I was excited to finally be able to vote FOR candidates I truly support rather than against candidates I was stuck with as a choice, but your diary truly encapsulated the import of this year’s election in that we are voting for our country and against our enemies.
