MEMBER DIARY

TEA Party Leader Recruiting Campaign Chairmen for Trump

From the diaries . . .

Just in case all the early primary fun hasn’t put you in a fetal position next to the liquor cabinet, maybe this will finish the job:

After his aborted press tour/election tease, Donald Trump nearly immediately went back to hinting at an independent run for President. Speculation has been driven through the last few months by surrogates, media interviews and a rising frustration with the field of Republican candidates. We even had a few moments earlier this month when it looked like some of the GOP presidential candidates would actually take part in a debate that Trump moderated. Thankfully, that moment of insanity passed.

This afternoon I was forwarded an email that originated with Everett Wilkinson (@TEApartyCzar) of South Florida. Everett describes himself as, “a rising local and national star in the tea party movement and the founder & chairman of South Florida Tea Party as well as the Florida Tea Party and Tea Party Chamber of Commerce.” The email is copied below in its entirety:

From: Everett Wilkinson
Date: Thu, Dec 29, 2011 at 11:18 AM
Subject: Confidential TX Issue

Dear Patriot Leader,

My name is Everett Wilkinson and I am a tea party leader in Florida and friend of Donald Trump.  I am sure you have heard on the news that Mr. Trump is considering a run as an independent.  He has asked me to find a “tea party” Texas Chairman for a potential third party by next week.  The role requires a Texas voter registration and is due to the voting laws in Texas.  The person would not have to change their party affiliation or anything. Would you or do you know of any Texan that would be interested?
Sincerely,

Everett Wilkinson

After receipt of the email I called Mr. Wilkinson and had a brief conversation. He confirmed that he is working at the request of Mr. Trump, whom he describes as a personal friend, to find and register state campaign chairmen across the country. He declined to give any indication of progress other than to say that he was able to find a “well known, solid TEA Party leader” so serve as the Texas campaign chairman. It was unclear from our conversation why he was using what appeared to be a TEA party affiliated email or whether the effort had been sanctioned by other members of the group.

Everett said that Trump hasn’t made a final decision on the campaign but that due to election law in some states they need to secure campaign chairmen and begin collecting signatures in case Trump pulls the trigger. The Donald has apparently put Everett in charge of this effort.

All in all it’s just another big face-palm moment to add to the long list. If you really want Obama to get a 2nd term then by all means, throw your support behind a Trump run. There’s a lot to be frustrated about with the state of the Republican party but cutting off your nose to spite your face isn’t exactly an optimal strategy.

all of his business associates, anyone who donates to his campaign and their business associates, and shunning anyone who helps him from the conservative movement permanently.

This fecal matter should have consequences.

In an Obama/Romney contest we are going to lose a lot of conservatives to third party candidates. I have been saying this all along. We are totally screwed if we nominate Mittens, yet, the GOP seems to be in a trance marching right toward the cliff…

I was looking at info on the POTUS elections. We have never had a President that did not carry his home state. Ofyen in the close races it has been the losers home state not voting for him that is the real difference (just go back to 2000 and ask Gore about Tenn.). I keep working the numbers for Mass and I don’t see how Mittens can win his home state. That is a big problem.

        • YnotNOW

so failure to carry his home state is a non-issue. It’s just that usually the party has the sense to not nomiate someone who ran a state that is antithetical to their values, like Mass.

We have the Keystone Kops in the White House. Maybe the worst President in the history of the country. The budget and the economy are in shambles, which should be right in the Republican’s wheel house. We should be talking about all the exciting candidates preparing to take down Obama. And, what are the stories, five days before the Iowa caucus?

An ad from Jon Hunstman taking down front-runner racist nutjob Ron Paul. A Rick Santorum surge. And, a Donald Trump Tea Party bid.

    Just shoot me now….

Trump thinks he is a very smart guy – probably smarter than everybody else, in his opinion. So, why do something so dumb – when he could smartly & shrewdly run in the Dem primaries, beat Obama earlier (why wait til Nov?), get huge Dem money, and use the full Democrat machine for getting on the ballot in all 50 states?

If Trump would just run as a Democrat, we could all encourage him to take out Obama. Then, the possibility of Republicans blowing a great opportunity does not automatically = a 2nd Obama term.

I will use the email addresses to send this message to Mr. Wilkinson.
Everyone else is welcome to pile on.

I’m in Virginia. I have no vote in our republican primary. I’ll vote for a democrat Trump. Hell, I voted for Hillary last time.

It’s all on them. I hope they enjoy working with Barry O for another 4 years.

the problem is more a lack of an effective “Republican establishment”. The kind of “establishment” that would clearly communicate to voters that crack pots like Ron Paul, damaged goods like Newt Gingrich, and nobodies like Herb Cain and Rick Santorum are not serious Presidential material.

I guess I should be thankful that it’s not worse. At least Christine O’Donnell didn’t throw her hat in the ring. And, at least Sarah Palin isn’t wrapping up the nomination….

Mitt Romney at least has a shot against Obama.

Some of us set up cots nearby replete with pillows, a down comforter, and an ice bucket on the floor weeks ago. Might as well set up camp for the long haul.

    Here is one plan:

Get Republican legislators to pass law at state level that:

“In event that no candidate wins a majority of votes cast within _____ (state), the state legislature will select delegates”

This is perfectly legal. The following states are controled by Republicans in both lower, upper and governor with electorial votes:
    :

    Alabama 9
    Arizona 11
    Florida 29
    Georgia 16
    Idaho 4
    Indiana 11
    Kansas 6
    Louisiana 8
    Michigan 16
    Mississippi 6
    Nebraska 5
    North Carolina 15
    North Dakota 3
    Ohio 18
    Pennsylvania 20
    South Carolina 9
    Tennessee 11
    Texas 38
    Utah 6
    Wisconsin 10
    Wyoming 3

This totals 254 electorial votes. All that would be needed for Obama not to be re-elected is to win 16 out of these 52 electorial votes:

    Oklahoma 7
    Arkansas 6
    Montana 3
    Virgina 13
    West Virgina 5
    Kentucky 8
    Missouri 10

    Just an idea.
