Bring Back Mark Davis!

It’s time to stand up for a friend.

For 18 years, Mark Davis has been a talk radio staple in North Texas. Over the last several, he has regularly filled in for Rush Limbaugh and had an ever-widening influence over the conservative movement. Through it all, he has been a faithful friend to conservatives, effectively articulated what we stand for and championed the TEA Party movement from day 1.

As of this week, Mark is off the air at WBAP. Cumulus bought the station and the parties were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. While most of his listening audience assumes that he’s on vacation (since no formal announcement was made), Mark is left hanging in the wind.

Cumulus has a reputation in the talk-radio community for being cheap when it comes to salaries and they are trying to gut Mark’s now that they own the station. It also appears that station owners think that Americans are tiring of conservative talk radio and specifically of the style that Mark delivers.

I’ve been a loyal listener of Mark’s show for the majority of my life and have kept my dial tuned to WBAP in large part because of his influence. Even when we disagree on issues or candidates, Mark has always been kind, articulate and principled. He’s exactly the kind of man we need on the air, reinforcing conservatives and spreading our message.

Mark has been standing with us for 18 years and it’s time that we stand up and let his station owners know that we want Mark back on the air. I hope that you will sign our petition to get Mark back on the radio at WBAP!

We will be sharing your comments online and forwarding them to the station owners. With your help, I hope we can communicate an idea of the influence that Mark has had over the conservative movement and how badly we want him back on the air.

Visit TXAction.com to sign the petition and you can share our “Bring Back Mark” graphic on Facebook through our page.

Make no mistake, this is an attack on conservative talk radio as a whole. Today it’s Mark Davis. Who knows who it’ll be tomorrow. We need to make a concerted effort to fight for those who so eloquently champion our cause.

Whether you’re in Texas or not, it’s time that we stand up for one of our own!

I don’t know if there is any changing Cumulus’ mind. I’d like to think their decision is more short-sighted business than ideological; despite rumors to contrary it appears that the Limbaugh show is not going anywhere, for example.

At any rate, though I fully support your petition, in the end it will have little impact on me. I have a smart phone and an array of radio streaming apps. Wherever Mark Davis resurfaces — and I am certain that he will, and soon — I for one will be there.

but I can tell you with a high degree of confidence that both are in play. Regardless of which motivation, Cumulus is making a mistake and bullying people who do great work for the conservative movement!

I agree. I tune in to his show whenever I can. Cumulus is making a poor business decision; their listeners will tune out to the rest of the programs when they learn he has been let go. Mark himself will succeed, as mustango says, as he will be highly sought after by a media company more interested in profit than in trying to hurt conservatives. These political decisions are just plain dumb on a business’s part. They are only hurting themselves. We, and Mark Davis, will not succumb to bullying. Cumulus will learn that lesson, as has Carbonite, and as Arby’s and Walgreen’s are about to learn.

I like Mark Davis when I hear him for Rush. I’ve never been to Texas, so I can’t speak for what the radio stations are like, but I’m sure he will turn up somewhere, in that sense, Cumulus is punishing itself.

I also thought Mark was on vacation???

Cumulus has also dropped Laura Ingram, that I am not to upset about….

What’s next? Will they drop Rush and Levin?

I am (was) a loyal listener and had WBAP on all the time either
    on-line or in the car……

I can always get Rush and Levin somewhere else.

But not having Mark Davis on leaves a large hole.

I have seen Mark Davis at many events in the DFW area.
If Mark does go somewhere else I will follow and leave
    WBAP and their advertisers behind…..

Would this be same radio network that was going
To give Huckabee a three hour show to play from
Noon to three to get Rush’s audience?
I heard that last month when Fluke comments
Were said? I am not sure if they play Rush on
Other stations. I did not pay attention to it because
Any station that tried to take Rush’s ratings down
    With Huckabee is laughable.
I will sign petition. Thank you.

to WBAP, I live in South Texas these days, but I listen to Mark on the internet. Levin and Rush and others I can listen to elsewhere. I hope Mark does surface somewhere else and real soon. WBAP is done as far as my listening to it.

I’ve been a Davis listener since I was cooped up at home recovering from a c-section. The baby to whom I had given birth is headed off to UNT in the fall.

This is a VERY short sighted decision on Cumulus’ part, and even though they carry Limbaugh, Hannity and Levin, I hope they get a blistering of negative e-mails for this.

You are right. Mark Davis is by FAR the most articulate, principled effective conservative speaker. We want him BACK, NOT just in the blogosphere, but on the RADIO.

I just read that starting Monday huckabee will be on Cumulus from noon to three pm. They certainly are shooting their stations in their feet.

I’m a Rush 24/7 member. I can listen at my convenience and can load up my IPOD, but I do listen sometimes at work.

If WBAP gets rid of Limbaugh as well, they will be sentencing themselves to permanent obscurity.

    Hope they like it.
