Portman for Senate TV Ad: “Jobs Tour”

Today our campaign released our first TV ad: “Jobs Tour.” The ad highlights our results-oriented jobs proposal, and addresses the top issue on the minds of Ohio voters, and the primary reason I am in the race, Ohio’s economy.  I wanted to take a moment to share it with you.

Ohio has lost 400,000 jobs in the last three years during the Strickland-Fisher Administration, while my opponent, Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher was Ohio’s Jobs Czar. Ohio also continues to fall behind other states, losing companies and jobs. And Washington and Columbus are not helping.  This election will be about who is best able to take on these economic challenges and who is most willing to put forward new, bold ideas that will get Ohioans back to work.

My jobs proposal is the result of my travels to all of Ohio’s 88 counties in the past year or so, including more than fifty factory tours and visits to retraining centers, community colleges, farms, health care centers, and small businesses.  Those visits, and the discussions with Ohioans from all walks of life that came from them, are reflected in the Portman Plan for Ohio Jobs which we highlight in this first ad.

“Jobs Tour” is a first step in what will be a tough and long general election.  It is my hope that this election remains, like this ad is, focused on the key issues facing Ohio and who has the best ideas to solve them.  Unfortunately, there will be many who will attempt to distract voters, scare voters, or mislead voters with false, partisan attacks. In fact,  it is already happening.

That’s why it is so important to me that you are with me in this fight, because it will take a lot of work, and it can’t be done without your support, your resources, and your time. It will be hard, but, like you, I am in the fight because I believe Ohio’s – and America’s – future and the future for our kids and grandkids are worth fighting for.  We can bring Ohio back, and we can bring our country back. We must.

Thanks, as always, for your support. I appreciate the important role sites like RedState play in informing and engaging voters and activists across the country.

I hope you will get engaged and involved in this important race:

All best,

Strickland was here. I understand it is ultimately his job as governor to take control of this situation, however, I guess I had expected at least a response from you. I have signed up for your e-mails and have gotten nothing. I can’t find anything on your website either.

I did get an e-mail from John Kasich asking us to give to the Red Cross. I live only 4 miles from where this devastating tornado began. If it had come from the opposite direction or just a little further west my home and neighborhood would have been hit.

FYI I’ve not heard from Brown, Voinovich, Boehner or Fisher either and have signed up for all their e-mails. I would think a representative or candidate should be involved somewhat in this or at the very least make a plea for volunteers or relief funds.

    My opinion.

The ad is ok. It is definitely the right issue to target. In my opinion, though, it comes off as wonkish and vague. I am sure there are good ideas in the brochure, but how many swing-type voters are going to request and read it? You probably already have the votes of everyone who will ask for the hard copy.

I agree he should have been there as a candidate, however, Brown, Voinovich, and Fisher are all still in public office and have a duty to the people of Ohio. IDK how far south the damage extends, but Boehner’s district isn’t in NW Ohio, unless it goes further south.

However, Boehner is an Ohioan who is Minority Leader and could have taken time from getting his tan renewed to hop a quick plane over here. As far as Portman, I’m sorry. If this is his judgment now what does that tell you about him after he’s elected, if he is?

If I seem to dwell on this I’ve been traumatized by this event all week. Being only a couple miles away from this our house was shaking and I knew something was happening. This was an F4 tornado, a football field wide with a 12 mile path that leveled the high school and also leveled 50 homes right to the foundation. One woman was sucked up trying to get into the PD from the roadway & her body was found a couple miles away in a field. Not counting all the homes, buildings, etc that were significantly damaged. Even the police dept was leveled. These people can’t even pay bills because their checkbooks are gone. Even if they had a car left, which most of them don’t, they can’t drive because their driver’s licenses are gone. This town is pretty much confetti right now.

Is gonna take me a while to sleep at night. Did buy a weather alert radio however.

I’ll comment since I’m in OH. I read the plan (ideas on a page) and watched the commercial. It doesn’t inspire me to vote for you. I’m actually a little disturbed that you feel that Washington can play that big of a part in fixing Ohio’s problems. Ohio’s problems are LOCAL. A taxpayer in Texas shouldn’t be helping to bail OH out of its problems. Ohio’s state and local taxes are too high and there is a large amount of government waste and largesse. That is the reason Ohio can’t attract private capital. Ohio can’t compete with the other states. It’s not a Senator’s or the Senate’s role to help a state compete or help to level the playing field among the states.

  • redtillimdead

I can see why your upset. I just think that Portman and Boehnor have better excuses than Fisher, who is currently in statewide office in OHio.

    Rep. Portman,

I would love to hear your response to the criticism above. Your plan is rather vague and you seem to want to want to give the Federal Government have more power than what is allowed by the U.S. Constitution. Ohio’s problems are because of Ohio’s politicians, both Democrat and Republican. If you want to help, decrease the size, scope, and impact of the Federal Government upon Ohio’s citizens. I want to vote for you, but you come off as another typical politician. I can always vote for the Constitution Party candidate, Eric Deaton.
