This is the Worst Idea for a Mattress Company Ad that Anyone Has Ever Had

*Updated* The manager of a San Antonio based mattress company is receiving death threats after airing what some are calling the most offensive commercial ever.

The Miracle Mattress ad features three people standing in front of two stacks of mattresses with American flags set on top, touting their “Twin Towers sale,” and ends with two of the employees knocking the mattress towers down while the manager of the store screams and then says, “we’ll never forget.”

I am not a person who gets offended easily, but I can say without hesitation this is the most disgusting ad I’ve ever seen aired on television.  Watch below:

Yes, this is a real thing that happened.

The ad was pulled after understandable outrage, and the owner released a statement on their Facebook page apologizing.

Now, this kind of publicity is about as bad as it can get for a small business.  But for some reason, the owner thought it wise to allow his daughter- the nitwit who created this mess- to go on camera for an interview.  (The news clip below incorrectly refers to her as the owner, but she is in fact the owner’s daughter and manager of the store)

Her explanation is astounding:

“We are not hate, we are love.  We are somebody that stands out.  We’re Miracle Mattress, we make miracles happen.” So poignant.

Lady look, first of all, you sell mattresses, alright?  You aren’t curing cancer here.  So let’s pump the brakes on that soap opera.  Your box springs aren’t going to win any humanitarian awards any time soon.  Know your place.

Also notice the first thing she mentions, what really upsets her here is not the fact that she has offended so many people, but it’s “for our lives to be in danger?  That’s not what we ever wanted.”

You mean to tell me it wasn’t your life goal to get death threats in response to your vile commercial?  Gee, you don’t say.  Perhaps now is not the time to make this about you, just a thought.

Let’s talk about the fact that they thought it would even be appropriate to have a “Twin Towers sale” in the first place.  Regardless of the commercial, who in their organization came to the conclusion that it was a good idea to have a sale mocking the worst terrorist attack on American soil that killed nearly 3,000 people?  And then this same person says, “yes, not only will we have the most offensive sale of all time, we will make a commercial to go along with it!”

Look, I’m not one to call for boycotts of businesses just because I don’t agree with their business practices.  All I’m saying here is that it wouldn’t be a bad thing if we let capitalism and the free market work its magic here and these yahoos found themselves out of business.

And here’s why this company kind of deserves to go under: because no one in the entire organization at any point said, “You know, this is a terrible idea. People are going to hate this. We’ll probably get legit death threats.” And what that means is that this company, from the ground up, lacks the business judgment to survive.

Although maybe they shouldn’t go under – after all, there’s no telling what kind of “going out of business” sale ideas they might come up with.
