Lori Lightfoot's Month Goes From Bad to Worse as Tucker Carlson Just Shreds 'America's Worst Mayor'

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) had a very bad month of May and June is not shaping up to be any better. In fact, it’s just gotten worse thanks to popular Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

But first, some background:

If you’ll recall, a month ago Lightfoot landed herself in hot water after announcing a racist interview policy on who she would allow to interview her on the topic of her two year anniversary as the Windy City’s mayor.

“As ⁦@chicagosmayor reaches her two year midway point as mayor, her spokeswoman says Lightfoot is granting 1 on 1 interviews – only to Black or Brown journalists,” NBC Chicago’s Mary Ann Ahern tweeted at the time.

In a series of tweets, Lightfoot proclaimed she was “being intentional about prioritizing media requests from POC reporters” because the city’s press corps allegedly lacked diversity. A lawsuit was filed in the aftermath and earlier this month, Lightfoot’s legal team had to do some explaining to a judge.

Chicago Tribune Latino reporter Gregory Pratt noted in a tweet at the time that he was one of the reporters approved for an interview, but he said he canceled it after her office declined to reverse course on her “POC reporters only” policy. It just so happened that around that same time, Pratt and some of his colleagues had already filed an in-depth report on how “top-level vacancies are mounting” in her administration, possibly due in part to her having a “notoriously abrasive leadership style.”

In a follow-up last week, Pratt revealed more damaging information about Lightfoot via emails he had obtained from a FOIA request. This one stood out in particular, further confirming her “notorious abrasiveness”:

Carlson got wind of the emails, read recent reports of the latest round of mass shootings in her city, and just went off:

Lightfoot banned the police from chasing criminals, even in the case of some very serious offensives. And her D.A. refuses to prosecute many crimes. The results? Nearly 200 more people have been murdered this year than last. Many more dead people, hundreds. Yesterday, there was yet another mass killing in Chicago.

[…]

So, as the bodies piled up, hundreds more under her tenure as mayor, you have to wonder, how long did it take Lightfoot to write all of that? Was she shaking, spitting, and screaming as she did? Of course, she was. But apparently, it didn’t work. It wasn’t enough. Things did not improve in the mayor’s office, despite those missives. In May of last year, Lightfoot announced a new policy for memos that arrive late.

Late memos won’t just be rejected — they’d be torn by rage-filled fingers into millions of tiny little pieces, and cast into the wind, like chaff. Given the right weather conditions, memo fragments might blow over Lake Michigan and fall on Grand Rapids. In an email to her staff, Lightfoot attached a picture of a ripped-up document, for emphasis. Lori Lightfoot, human shredding machine.

And if one doesn’t agree with Carlson’s brutally honest assessment, perhaps they will after watching this cringe video:

Perhaps even worse than the emails, what made her “woke” interview policy even more problematic for Lightfoot was in how it backfired on her in the most hilarious and deserving way possible, courtesy of several journalists of color who said in so many words that one of the biggest hurdles facing black and Hispanic journalists in the Chicago press corps in terms of getting access to Lightfoot was Lightfoot’s own office.

As I’ve said before, when Lori Lightfoot decides to double down on the stupid, she does so with a bang. And now, as a result, the chickens are coming home to roost for the embattled mayor as the inconvenient truth comes out.
