Ilhan Omar Gets Inconvenient Fact Check After Claiming Columbia Occupation 'Co-Opted' by Bad Faith Actors

As RedState previously reported, Isra Hirsi, the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), was suspended from Barnard College over her organization and participation in the antisemitic protests/occupation taking place at Columbia University.

"[T]hose of us in Gaza Solidarity Encampment will not be intimidated. [W]e will stand resolute until our demands are met," Hirsi vowed in response. "[O]ur demands include divestment from companies complicit in genocide, transparency of @Columbia’s investments and FULL amnesty for all students facing repression."

Columbia and Barnard "have a historic relationship," and are located across the street from each other.

Later, the privileged daughter of a United States Congresswoman complained that she was allegedly homeless and starving as a result of the warranted suspension.

Rep. Omar's response has been pretty predictable, saying she was "enormously proud" of her daughter for continuing with the family's antisemitic traditions. She then claimed without evidence that the protests were being "co-opted" by bad faith actors, and accused critics and the people who are trying to restore law and order of "inflaming the situation" by calling attention to it:

Throughout history, protests were co-opted and made to look bad so police and public leaders would shut them down. That’s what we are seeing now at Columbia University. The Columbia protesters have made clear their demands and want their school not to be complacent in the ongoing Genocide in Gaza. Public officials and media making this about anything else are inflaming the situation and need to bring calmness and sanity back.

As my colleague Bonchie observed earlier, though, these predictable talking points from the left/media don't wash anymore now than they did during the Antifa/Black Lives Matter "protests" in 2020 where looters and rioters were called "peaceful protesters" by the same woketivists who are spewing falsehoods over the pro-Hamas campus protests now.

Further, the facts don't care about Ilhan Omar's feelings when one considers that her daughter cheered the October 7th Hamas terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians, as Townhall.com Political Editor Guy Benson pointed out:

There was also this:

Videos from inside the compound also speak for themselves, and further debunk Omar's insane "co-opted" argument.

I cannot emphasize enough how imperative it is for people not to get sucked into the vortex of whataboutism, moral relativism, and gaslighting coming from the activist left on this issue. Coddling from the likes of Joe Biden towards the Hamas Caucus and their acolytes has only made matters worse for the Jewish community.

It is vitally important to not lose sight of the big picture here - the safety, security, and freedom of Jewish people, and the unequivocal rejection of pro-terrorist propaganda - no matter how overwhelming the issue may get.
