MEMBER DIARY

Rep. Wasserman Schultz; Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Actually, I think I’ll say “Liar, Liar, Skirt on fire” just to tick off her feminist sensibilities.  Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a huge liar. Yes, a liar. In the video clip below, she blatantly lies and says that the health care bill, which she voted for, does not require mandatory insurance. This is an outright falsehood. In fact, IRS agents are being hired to enforce the requirement; you will be fined by the IRS if you don’t comply with our new health care overlords.

In addition, it proves Nancy Pelosi wrong once again. Gee, guess what, Nancy? You passed the bill and *still* no one knows what’s in it, apparently. Not even the people who voted for it; including members of the Democrats’ own House leadership.

Change. It’s a comin’. In November.

…for the MSM, or at least the Florida electronic media, to splash this all over the evening newscasts tonight.

    Yeah, that’ll happen.

  • tjexcite

of the few D’s reelected in the 112th congress. Regardless of what lies she said and will say over and over again.

    • chabsentia

Actually Wsserman wasnt lying. She just didnt know how to explain the shell game properly. I guess they did prep her enough. As I told the other poster who claimed that there werent 16,500 IRS agents were hired for collecting the fines etc. and that it was an exaggeration iof the conservative sites.

Here is what the IRS Commissioner said yesterday. You will be required to check off a box on your IRS form as to wheter you have Health Insurance or not. If you state no then the IRS will be able to deduct the fines or what ever they call them against any refunds owed to you. The Senate called them excise taxes. So the IRS wont be enforcing or collecting any money. It will just be a deduction against your refund etc. Keep in mind that if you have $1500.00 or more in Interest dividends any given year that you must check off a box as to whether or not you have any money invested outside the country. If you answer no and they later find out different then you will be subject to fines and prison. Same thing if you answer yes on the Health insurance and dont have it.

Furthermore this information will be shared with the Department of Human Health and Welfare and I will bet you that they will be notified by the Insurance companies as to your Status just like the Auto Insurance companies work with the State Motor vehicles. So Wasserman either wouldnt or couldnt explain it. and her fumbling seemed like Lying.

If you can get fined for not doing something, that means they made it a requirement. That’s what a requirement IS.

You can call that crap sandwich a cheeseburger all you want, but some of us are bright enough to smell it first.

        • chabsentia

Randy: First of all the Insurance companies helped write the Bill. Why do you think the AARP is such a big supporter? The Health Stocks started going up as soon as it was signed. They are all salivating over the 32 more million mre mandatory Insurance as well as another 12 million aliens because Obama and Pelosi stated that Amnesty will be their project and they will pass it the same way.

They think the voters are stupid. After all, the voters have returned at least 90% of the incumbents to office for the last twenty years. Many bought the “last eight years of Republcans ” in 2008 even though they have been the majority party since 2008 and they even bought it that Bush was responble for this economic debacle even though there were three bubbles that started in 1982 and the 1990s.

The Senate called the penalties an excise tax and the IRS isnt really enforcing or collecting anything or coming to your house or otherwise threatening you. Any fines or excise taxes will be applied to your refunds etc.The Insurance companies will report who has Insurance to the Dept of Human Health and if you lied when you checked the box on the IRS form then you will be subject to Fines and Penalties as well as jail for falsifying an IRS form which wll be more then any Health care excise tax because the IRS will be sharing the information with them.

And if Congress gets away with this then they will be able to tell you what kiind of car to buy or any other product they see fit.

          • http://slcliberty.blogivists.com randy streu

A, this in any way refutes that it IS a requirement or that, B, Wasserman was lying.

        Good Comment

The thinking (I’m being kind) exhibited here by our government is precisely the kind of “Through The Looking Glass” misdirection, misinformation, and sheer propaganda that has gotten us into the “leftist” mess that we are in. It is aka PC aka Thought Control along with blatant lying.

The IRS “Commish”: You are “required” to check off a box regarding your Health Care.
The last time I looked “required” on an IRS form has legal ramifications, and sure enough, if you don’t you are volunteering to a potential “fine”. Now just how long do you think it will be before this little “requirement” grows teeth the size of a T-Rex.

My congressman, Andre Carson, is a total blockhead who is incapable of understanding complicated issues. He relies on his staff and on lobbyists to provide him with legislative Cliff Notes and talking points. If his support group doesn’t tell him what’s in a bill, he won’t know it. I assume that Ms. W-S is of the same willfully uninformed type.

that, in my opinion, she’s trying to be clever. She is claiming that the “penalty” for not buying insurance is really “just a tax” (a very popular argument that liberals are using to support the law’s constitutionality). This is yet another very disturbing instance of a “representative” telling her constituents that the cr*p that they are smelling really is a rosebush.

    • http://www.ufcle.com/willis/willis.htm Steven Willis

Actually, the “this is a tax” argument is essential to the argument that it is unconstitutional, which it is.

I just finished and submitted a 63 page article explained why the penalty provisions are an unconstitutional un-apportioned Direct Tax.

The dangerous argument is that it is a regulatory fee rather than a tax.

She and many others concede the tax part, which is helpful.

The rest of what she says is absurd.

      • wideawake

with your assessment; but somehow, liberals still believe that they can justify the law by claiming it to be “just another tax.” Remember: Facts are irrelevant to them.

Any chance you can post a link to your paper? Does it focus on the issue of capitation? Thanks.

What a liar this woman is. Her district includes a lot of seniors and I can not believe they will send her back to Congress.

Does she think her cute answers will get her out of trouble? I don’t know how these people live with themselves forcing something through that the people did not and do not want. That’s totally un-American.

    Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-PA)
    Town Hall Meeting
    April 5, 2010

Question: Congresswoman, who gave you the right or the authority to determine whether or not I have to purchase healthcare?

Rep. Schultz: We actually have not required in this law that you carry health insurance.

What we did is that, just like when you are treated, in that, where, we categorize you differently, based on your, in terms of your tax return, when you are married versus single, just like we’ve categorized you differently when you’re a homeowner versus someone who doesn’t own a home, just like we’ve categorized you differently when you have children versus not having children, what we’re doing is that you will be in a different tax status if you carry insurance versus not carrying health insurance.

So you can feel free to choose not to carry health insurance. That’s just going to be reflected in the tax category that you’re in on your tax return. But there is no requirement in this law that you must carry health insurance.

Thank you for your question. (laughing)

    • hodori

I was the person on the video who asked the question. Unfortunately what is not picked up is my response to her.

Since the “mandate” is not enforced, I can see how one might arrive at that conclusion. However, it’s obvious she is not referring to the non-enforcement of “penalty” payments. So of course she is lying. By her standard, no law would be mandatory.

  • bobmontgomery

…on TV somewhere today. He said there will be a box on your tax form for “THE” insurance company to check yes or no if you have coverage. He didn’t say what insurance company. Don’t think this guy has any more of a clue than Debbie. What we as citizens have to remember is that in this day and age, nearly all of the Congressmen, bureaucrats, administration officials, et cetera, are just like everyone else. They were brought up not learning how to read, write, add and subtract, not learning history and not learning critical thinking. They were brolught up learning about Earth Day.

    • chabsentia

Actually I saw the interview as mentoned in other posts. What he said is that you will check a box on the IRS form as to whether you have Health Insurance or not. If you check the “No box” then there will a charge against your refund as determined by Congress. This information will be shared with the Department of Human sevices and welfare who I imagine will also be notified by the Insurance companies by your ID that you have it.

Of course, if you check the ” Yes” box and dont have it then you will be subject to even more penalties for lying on the IRS form.So the IRS isnt really levying a fine etc.

  • frammis3001

Well, actually, they aren’t hiring IRS agents to enforce anything. Non-partisan fact check:

    http://factcheck.org/2010/03/irs-expansion/

    • momma

If your name and ID and policy number don’t show up on an insurance company’s report to the IRS, then you will be classified in the IRS database as not having health insurance. You will have a “different tax status” than if you were identified as having coverage. And your federal income tax rate will be, um, ah, adjusted accordingly. It will be calculated in the tax you owe, not as a separate penalty. That’s what I’m getting from Rep. Wasserman’s answer.

      • chabsentia

Your name and Insurance ID etc will be suppliesd to the Department of Human services and Welfare. The IRS will share the form where you checked off the box as to whether you have it or not. If the information was supplied to the IRS then this would make them an enforcement agency for Health Care, The IRS only applies the excise tax or whatever name they use for it against your refund which they will say was legislated by Congress.Of course if you lie on the IRS form then you will be subject to penalities for lying on the IRS form and the Dept of Health will be able to verify it with the information from the Insurance compamies that helped write the bill

The rest of what you say is pretty much on the mark. Wasserman either wasnt preped propetrly od was too stupid to understand the shell game.

    • davesinsanantonio

Every IRS agent is hired to enforce tax laws. That is all they are hired to do. That is a real fact.

    • chabsentia

I just saw a video of the IRS commissioner the other day. He said that there will be a box to check off on your tax form as to whether you have Health Insurance or not. This information will then be turned over to either the Department of Human Health affairs or an advisory board as they will be sharing the information with them.If you do not have Health Insurance then there will be fines assessed. It was as to wheternot clear who would collect the fines.

There are two things to keep in mind. The IRS is an enforcement agancy. Congress set it up this way for it to be legal as they have the power to tax. The second thing is that if tou lie or refuse to answer certain questions on the IRS form then you are subject to penalites. . For example if you have more than $1500.00 in dividends and interest then you must go to the next section and check a box as to whether you have accounts/money in a foreign country. It does not ask you what accounts you have in a foreign country. If you have those accounts and say no and the IRS finds out then you will be subject to large fines and possibly jail.

In most if not all States when you renew your drivers license or renew your car registration then you are asked if you have auto insurance as it is the law.I imagine the auto insurance companies also furnish this information. I suspect that this will be the same as the Heath Insurance and the IRS commissioner also stated that the IRS will have authority to withhold the assessments if you do not have Health Insurance against any tax refunds.

So technically the IRS wont be collecting any fines. They will be able to withhold any refunds as determined by the fines. They will also be able to assess fines if you lie and check the wrong block in addtition because it is a Federal offense if you lie on an IRS form. If you are getting Social Security payments and you are still woking and exceed the cap then Social Security will inform them that you must pay the excess back. I know a guy this happened to and they also assessed a fine on top of it because he didnt notify them he was going over. They dont allow you to pay them back. They just dont pay you until the sum has been repaid. This is similar to what you will see on Health care and the IRS. The Congress woman just couldnt explain it and possibly the conservatives didnt understand or …………..

  • 6eorge Jetson

  • Adjoran

If you don’t buy approved insurance, you will be fined $750 per year. There is no one to come around and collect that UNLESS you get money from the federal government – including tax refunds and contractual payments – in which case it will be deducted if you haven’t paid it.

It’s a system which is in fact WORSE than a simple mandate, because healthy people will just pay the fine UNTIL they get sick. Since they can’t be turned down for a pre-existing condition, they can just buy insurance when they need it, which will bankrupt the system very quickly.

Of course, these brilliant benefits don’t take effect until 2014, only the taxes come immediately.

    • ihateliberals

If you don’t get a refund you will be sent a bill for outstanding tax due. also the public option will soon be added back to the HCB. they will try this before Nov. Sic Heil Obama.

  • jimcarroll

No, the change happened a couple of Novembers ago.

Voters voted for “change”. A dimensionless, but non-Bush, “change”. Anything, they said, but more of Bush. A suicidally stupid number of voters voted as the sheep, horses and non-Pigs of Orwell’s “Animal Farm”.

They got exactly what they voted for. Never mind that they didn’t know what they were voting for. They were surpassingly stupid. Years of indoctrination in the Nation’s public school saw to that.

The same deviants who fooled most of the people part of the time then set to work to effect their “fundamental transformation” of America.

America has died. It will not be restored in the space of two hundred Novembers. Five percent of the taxpayers pay 90 percent of the taxes, yet cast five percent of the vote. Nearly half of America’s “taxpayers” pay no taxes at all. It is a pure fact of biology that when an organism’s weight consists predominantly of parasites, that organism is has ceased to liv. Long live the American dream.

“Democracy will fail when people choose to vote themselves a share of the treasury” — deToqueville. (The people have chosen).

“A Republic, if you can keep it” — B. Franklin (A 223-year run — not bad — but we couldn’t).

“When people fear their government, there is tyranny; when government fears the people, there is liberty.” — T. Jefferson (Our Representatives no longer work for us. Mine won’t even answer my email).

“Yaint seen nothin’ yet!” — Barry “Barack Obama” Soetero. I believe him. Doubt this at your peril. A few of us saw him immediately for what he is. For the awakening majority, it is too late.

    Wear the yoke proudly.

Remember, she represents an area of Florida that might as well be in New York. That district is the sort of place where dottering elderly retirees from up north are carried to the polls by Democrat operatives and given little cheat sheet cards that show who they should vote for, and where ballots without the chad punched out are still counted for the Democrat.

  • calthorpe

Professor Willis is correct. She was sent out there by the “Dear Leadership” to diffuse the lawsuits. She is trying to confuse the issue and show that the Congressional intent was not to create a real “mandate”, just a tax, to give the courts cover to dismiss the AGs’ lawsuits. She is setting the stage for the courts to rule that the issue is a political question and not one that can be adjudicated by the courts. She didn’t do this on her own, this is a well coordinated strategy. They also rolled out the IRS Commissioner. When was the last time you heard an IRS Commissioner speak publicly?

  • iluvit

    sorry for the typo

  • dnha14

It’s worse than lying. She is making an argument to try to derail the constitutional arguments against the bill. It’s not a mandate. It’s a choice. We are not forcing you to buy anything. You have a choice. Buy insurance or pay the penalty. It’s your choice. This lady makes me sick and makes me embarrassed to be Jewish. It is no longer a question of, “Have you no shame?” There is no shame, especially in Congress.

  • jrg50

O’Donnell, while sitting in for Schultz, showed the Wasserman clip and actually read that section of the bill the other day. Smuggness in tact, he presents proof positiive that there is no mandate, or hiring of 16K new IRS agents, then lists exact #s of IRS people and delineates those who work on what. Theoretically, the bill was “changed” to take the mandate away. In essence making it a Voluntary type arrangement….just like paying income tax is “Voluntary”….unfortunately it is almost impossible to UN-Volunteer….and hell to pay if you try and stand against the tide.

The bottom line with anything IRS related, especially in enforcement, is the discretionary powers of their agents in making one’s life miserable in dealing with them. Guilty until proven innocent, wages garnished, accounts levied, liens placed, and usurious penalties and interest until the bill paid, no communications inter-office, etc….then dealing with locked in bureaucrats that could care less about anything but collecting money, and what all they will “allow” you to rightfully claim. Most “employed” people have not had much experience with them because their employer handles it for them in the collection and payments of taxes for them. The tide quickly turns when speaking to the business community. Ultimately, misery becomes your companion in dealings with them, and typically capitualtion to it….just to make it end and get on with your business and life….and swallow your anger and indignation at being under such a powerful thumb.

The “Checked” box, on the new form stating actual coverage by number, verified against the Insurance Companie’s file…sounds very fishy to me. It sounds more like an identifier similar to the SS#…this is YOU and YOU are covered or NOT…and sounds more like an internal identifyer than an external reference to another reporting entity….( unless it is geared as a Job creator…more people to do more government work )….sounds like a precursor to a Govt. Ins. program….purely speculation on my part.

The “kinder- gentler IRS” that came about a few years back was spurred into existence, when many working people were downsized in the contemporary recession of the day…and starting raising Hell when they began to experience first hand what abuses the IRS started putting on them once they started their own businesses. These additional voices of the people had a good effect in the IRS subsequent dealing with the “taxpayer’…who they will frequently remind you that they “work for”. Guess again.

Don’t be fooled by this crap. If you don’t pay, start watching your bank account…and plan for penalties and interest along with your freedom of choice. Repeal this travesty of a bill or defund it. And put something in place that is fair to all….and pay for it. Tell the people the TRUTH for once, and prepare to be shocked that they can handle it and buck up and do what is neccessary to get this country back on the right path.

[see: momma Thursday, April 8th at 7:49PM EDT], then perhaps you will need to check a ‘No Insurance’ box when you fill out an updated 1040 form. Then to figure the tax, you might be directed to use new ‘No Insurance’ columns in the Tax Tables. This, of course, would include the ‘Required’ fee, penalty, tax, or whatever you want to call it. This way if you aren’t ‘accurate’ when filling out the form, one of the 16,500 new IRS agents will be contacting you. just sayin’
