MEMBER DIARY

Out: Flag Pins. In: Demagogue Bracelets

Capping off a week wherein Democrats in Congress cheered and gave standing ovations to a foreign leader denigrating our country from our own house floor and the head of ICE said he won’t do his job because Arizona is yucky, now comes denigration jewelry! From Hot Air (emphasis Allah’s):

As part of his general boycott of Arizona — which includes his refusal to fly through Phoenix on his weekly trips to and from Washington — Baca, D-Rialto, is distributing wristbands inspired by the Lance Armstrong LiveSTRONG craze.

Baca put in an order for 2,500 of his version, which will be red, yellow and blue — the colors of Arizona’s flag — to be worn as a show of solidarity against the controversial law…

In Washington, Baca has gotten House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and most members of the Democratic leadership to wear them, as they did — along with golfing legend Chi Chi Rodriguez — at a recent fundraiser for Baca. Baca said his office is fielding calls from people inquiring how they can get one of the wristbands.

“Everyone wants them,” Baca said. “They’re going like hot potatoes.”

That’s right. They are now adorning themselves – with pride, no less – with bracelets that show just how removed from reality they actually are. Look at Steny Hoyer, beaming with buffoonish pride! (image after the jump)

Demagoguing a state and American citizens with words wasn’t enough. They must now make it some lame fashion statement as well. I suppose it does help the majority of Americans who approve of the law, though; we can now ascertain one’s idiocy simply by glancing at their wrists. Less work for us!

I have an idea, Rep. Baca and buddies.  Instead of acting like oh-so-hip college kids and reputed Hollywood celebrities with your feel good-y bracelets, try doing your jobs. I know, jobs is a bad 3 letter word (thanks, Joe Biden!) to y’all, but give it a try. In the alternative, get out of the way and stop disparaging those who are forced to do your jobs for you. Stop sneering in contempt – now even in bracelet form – at American citizens. And, if you can’t read the law itself, try reading some polls at least. You look like even larger fools than usual, prancing about with your “Arizona is yucky” bracelets when most Americans believe quite the opposite.

that the ruling class wears as a symbol of their contempt for the 70% of Americans who support Arizona?

They’re not evidently content to alienate these Americans. Now they have official bling to rub it in their faces.

They should be asked to state their position on the record, and they should be asked if they think that Pelosi, Hoyer and other House leadership should be wearing them, too.

…is too cowardly and frightened of being labeled “jingoistic fascists attempting to wrap their racism in the flag” by Olbermann to dare ask EVERY Dem representative the following question:

      * Because the Obama Administration has refused to secure our border, Arizona was forced to act to protect their citizen’s safety by giving their police the authority to enforce the national laws that have been on the Federal books for 70 years. It’s Constitutional, specifically tailored to prohibit racial profiling, and has the support of 65-70% of Americans surveyed.

However, when the Mexican President came to Washington D.C., he spoke to the Congress and condemned Arizona’s law – which is less severe than Mexico’s laws on the subject – and demanded we restrict weapons he claims are being imported. President Obama agreed with his sentiments and has refused to take calls from Arizona’s governor.

      * Do you think Arizona’s law is unconstitutional or racist?
      * Do you agree with Mexico’s criticisms?
      * Did you stand to applaud President Calderone’s criticism?
      * Do you wear the wrist band Nancy Pelosi had made to show solidarity against Arizona?
      * Do you think it’s appropriate for the Federal and state government and local municipalities to boycott an American state and treat them as a pariah like apartheid-era South Africa?

If you’ve answered yes to ANY of the above questions, why should anyone vote for you since you are more aligned with the priorities of Mexico than the United States?

Bonus Question: Have you actually read the Arizona law?

      * If yes, how can you claim it’s racist or unconstitutional? (Being politically risky isn’t the same thing.)

      * If no, and you answered yes to any of the first batch of questions, how can you ask for the vote of your constituents when you don’t know what you’re criticizing and when forced to pick a side while ignorant, you chose Mexico over the United States? What don’t you like about the United States that makes you reflexively line up with anyone against us?
      ====
Yeah, I know, it’s wordy and some journalist would dive in to break up the beating like a UFC ref before the beating gets too bad, but it’d be nice to see some candidate inclined to ask even one of the questions?

If the Dems wish to be the post-American, trans-national party and they believe the voters are in agreement with their ideology and agendas, shouldn’t they be grateful for an opportunity to fully share their vision with the voters? The least we could do as conservatives to help spread the word of their goals far and wide. They should thank us!

I sent email to my Senator, Nelson of Florida, and the Democratic replacement for Wexler, Deutch, if they had stood to give Calderone a standing ovation. So far, I have had no answer.

I suggest everyone write their representative to ask that question. I really doubt any of them want to answer that question for their constituents.

  • wolfster38

I thought they were VOTE ME OUT OF OFFICE bracelets. I stand corrected.

I’ll start calling them that :)

Photos of each and every Dem scofflaw with his or her precious little bracelet should be used mercilessly in campaign ads by Republican opponents.

But as others have said, will the R challengers have the spine to carry this issue forward?

We’re in a very dangerous spot right now. Quisling Democrats in Congress are openly opposing black letter law, and administration bureaucrats are refusing to enforce cases presented to them by Arizona officials. On the other hand, we have too many Republicans who fear speaking out in support of law and order, scared to death that someone will criticize them.

I’m all in favor of certain “litmus tests,” This is one. Mr. (or Ms,) Republican candidate, do you support the Arizona law? Straight answer, please, One word will do nicely, with no dissembling or equivocating. You either stand for federal and state law, or you plan to violate your oath of office and the trust of your constituents. Which is it?

      • davesinsanantonio

Don’t let them give long-winded, evasive non-answers to straight forward yes or no questions. It is time for short, direct, truthful answers to short, direct questions. No more obfuscating, no more equivocating, no more non-answers. We must start interrupting their bloviating with “just answer the question, yes, or no.” Or “you did not answer the question”, Or, such. We have let our desire to be polite and respectful override our need for answers. We have to stop doing that. Make them take a stand, and then make them stand by it.

What great timing with the latest revelations of Lance Armstrong doping up to ride his bicycle in races around the world.

I wonder how much extra expense Mr. Baca is incurring in the name of the America taxpayer for not taking the most direct flights? Why doesn

Between Charles Lollar (www.lollarforcongress.com ) and Collins Bailey (www.baileyforuscongress.com). But Hoyer took 74% of the vote in 2008 against Bailey and has won more than 60% of the vote all but three times since 1982.

  • itsjoanne

It’s a long shot I know, but one can hope that maybe even Hoyer can be defeated.

This is really beyond the pale.

  • minncon

Not “hot potatoes,” Mr. Baca. A “hot potato” describes an issue or situation that no one wants to handle, and wants to hand off to someone else.

How appropriate for the subject of immigration enforcement.

God, we have a lot of minor-league brains in Washington right now!

Besides that, his crowning legislative achievement was to sponsor a bill give a gold medal to Arnold Palmer.

There is no evidence that he got free tickets to Arnold’s tournament. Anyone who suggests that must be a bigot.

in which Republicans are unfortunately complicit, there wouldn’t be a chance in hades Hoyer could beat Lollar.

We need to get the word out on Lollar and give him every opportunity to hit Hoyer this year when he’s got the Obama hcr weight around his neck.

How do I get a petition going to replace US immigration law with the law they use in Mexico? Surely the Democrats could have no objection to that.
Reglamento de la Ley General de Poblacion (General Law on Population) in Spanish dated Abril 14 de 2000 Capitulo Quinto –Migracion Seccion 1

Mexico welcomes only foreigners who will be useful to Mexican society:

Foreigners are admitted into Mexico “according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress.”

Immigration officials must “ensure” that “immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents.

Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets “the equilibrium of the national demographics,” when foreigners are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when “they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy.”

The Secretary of Governance may “suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest.”

Mexican authorities must keep track of every single person in the country:

Federal, local and municipal police must cooperate with federal immigration authorities upon request to assist in the arrests of illegal immigrants.

A National Population Registry keeps track of “every single individual who comprises the population of the country,” and verifies each individual’s identity.

A national Catalog of Foreigners tracks foreign tourists and immigrants and assigns each individual with a unique tracking number.
Foreigners with fake papers, or who enter the country under false pretenses, may be Imprisoned. Foreigners with fake immigration papers may be fined or imprisoned.

Foreigners who sign government documents “with a signature that is false or different is subject to fine and imprisonment.

Foreigners who fail to obey the rules will be fined, deported, and/or imprisoned as Felons. Foreigners who fail to obey a deportation order are to be punished.

Foreigners who are deported from Mexico and attempt to re-enter the country without authorization can be imprisoned for up to 10 years.

Foreigners who violate the terms of their visa may be sentenced to up to six years in prison . Foreigners who misrepresent the terms of their visa while in Mexico — such as working with out a permit — can also be imprisoned.

Under Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony. The General Law on Population States

Is one senator or congressman to have the cajones to introduce a bill to change our immigration laws to mirror Mexico’s. THEN, let the games begin!

      • davesinsanantonio

yell “Play ball!” This would be fun to watch.

  • SirGladiator

If they want to wear bracelets showing their support for illegal aliens, why not wear some bracelets of our own, with Red White and Blue? Show our support for the USA and the rule of law, in a patriotic and cool fashion! Plus, if everybody’s wearing different colored bracelets, eventually people will start asking what’s up, and that means they get to learn ‘Oh, the liberals are wearing theirs to support illegal aliens, we’re wearing ours to support America’, its a win-win all the way around!

    • Christine (Trelaina)

We don’t need to look like them to make a statement.

Let them wear their little bracelets and look like fools. As someone said earlier, it will make it easier to spot them.

  • Bill S

Leftists are all about pointless, meaningless symbolism. This is just another in a long list.

    • janis

Because those always make me want to vote for people, too, just like these stupid bracelets. I wonder how long they’ll continue to wear these things once the new has worn off.

Perhaps we should chum the waters a bit and start a whispering campaign that we will all back down from the Arizona law if they will agree to show up for work naked one day. Yes, yes, I know the yuck factor would be astronomical, but just think of the lovely YouTubes and independent pics that will show up all over the place. And then we can do what they do to us every single time– Just kidding! We love the Arizona law!

  • taxmaiden

When Arizona shuts off the electricity to California, we’ll just see how long those losers last…

  • tngal

As ‘quiet’ protest moves go it will become popular. These little do dads are just the kind of thing actors, muscians, lefty pundits, and others in front of cameras love to wear to show solidarity. Wait till the next awards show. You’re hard pressed to find someone not wearing a ribbon or a bracelet espousing some cause.

    • davesinsanantonio

will want to wear them too. And then they will step into the voting booth.
“Vote Democrat, It’s easier than thinking.”

  • nessa

The first one I wore was red, I left one in a pool of tears at “The Wall” the first time I visited, I returned one to a family member I met and have given several to friends and aquaintances who expressed an admiration for mine. The one I currently wear is highly polished and reads:

    CPL Adam D. Quinn
    USA 82nd ABN DIV
    06 OCT 07 Kabul AFG

Unlike the filth advocating these tasteless bracelets and the cheap sentiments that go with them, CPL Quinn epitomized everything that is right and good and exceptional about America. It will always be one of the priveleges of my life to have known him.

Mr Baca, Mr Hoyer, et al, kiss my ass.

You can get your own Pro-American bracelet here. It’s a statement worth making.

  • jsdjack9

I have always heard that ignorance of the law is no excuse for breaking the law and it should not get you off in case you are caught breaking any of our laws. At this time I consider Berry not a president or a legal person to occupy the white house. I say NO PAPERS OF CITIZENSHIP OR BIRTH RECORDS AND HE SHOULD BE THROWN INTO JAIL AS AN ILLEGAL ALIEN AS WELL AS A TRADER AND A FRAUD SET HIM AND FAMILY OUT ON THE STREET UNTIL HE CAN SHOW THE PROPER PAPERWORK. TREAT HIM LIKE ANY ONE ELSE WITHOUT PAPERS!!!!!!

Bracelets? They look like necklaces. Too tight? Too bad.

  • notthenews

Baca only had 2500 of them made, then he doesn’t really have much support. He will look very silly when his 2500 bracelets are dwarfed by the 20 million plus flag pins that “We The People” are already wearing.

  • winsomlosesome

made that look like theirs, with one word: “Pendejos”, to distribute to them all. Tell them it’s Spanish code word for “Boycott Arizona”.
