MEMBER DIARY

Die In A Fire, You Vicious Racist Scumbag

I didn’t address State Sen. Jake Knotts’ “raghead” comments earlier, because I had little to say to the refuted man, save for some rather colorful words. Today, he proved himself even more odious than even first thought. Via Hot Air (emphasis theirs):

He claims she is hiding her religion and he wants the voters to know about it. “We got a raghead in Washington; we don’t need one in South Carolina,” Knotts said more than once. “She’s a raghead that’s ashamed of her religion trying to hid it behind being Methodist for political reasons.”…

Knotts says he believes Haley’s father has been sending letters to India saying that Haley is the first Sikh running for high office in America. He says her father walks around Lexington wearing a turban.

“We’re at war over there,” Knotts said. Asked to clarify, he said he did not mean the United States was at war with India, but was at war with “foreign countries.”

Not only am I infuriated beyond belief for Nikki Haley, a good, decent woman whom I have supported and continue to support in her campaign to become my Governor, but I’m humiliated for my now home state. Politics are dirty in South Carolina, yes. And I know dirty politics, having been born and raised in New Jersey. But, this goes far beyond even dirty politics. This is repugnant on every level and is nowhere near the bounds of human decency. Already, the noxious scum covering Jake Knotts is sullying the people of South Carolina as a whole and is perpetuating the “dumb racist Southerners” meme.

Nothing could be further from the truth. While the vile alleged man, Jake Knotts, is muttering, barely literate, about those “foreign countries”, the people here, including the SC tea party, are fighting another battle. We are fighting against the likes of the loathsome Jake Knotts. We are fighting to end the despicable political practices in South Carolina. We are fighting to take back the government for the people, by the people. (Hint: the term “people” does not include you, Jake Knotts. You have not one shred of human decency in you)

That is why Nikki Haley was, and is, ahead in the polls here in South Carolina. She represents what we want. She is fighting for the very same things. And it’s why the the Will Folks’, the Andre Bauers and the Jake Knotts’ are so hellbent against her that they are showing their true despicable colors. You see, Nikki Haley was never supposed to beat our longest serving incumbent to win her seat in the State Legislature.  That was the first strike against her. Then, once there, she took on another dirty little South Carolina secret.

After that upset victory, she again caught the attention of the state’s political establishment last summer by successfully moving to limit voice votes and force state lawmakers to vote on the record, an unpopular move with many of her state House colleagues.

Voting on the record shouldn’t be a huge deal, should it? Well, guess again:

South Carolina ranks lowest in the nation for legislative accountability and the vast majority of votes in the state legislature are never recorded.  South Carolina is one of only five states where legislators are not required to record votes.  In 2008, the South Carolina House of Representatives recorded only 8 percent of votes on general bills or joint resolutions, and the Senate recorded only 1 percent.

You read that correctly; 8% and 1%. Haley’s introduction of a bill that would change that and require transparency was more than just ‘unpopular’. The bill has been stalled since last Summer. And Nikki Haley was removed from her position as chair of the Banking Subcommittee, all as a way to “put her in her place” and silence her. It didn’t work. She didn’t quit because she was, and continues to, stand up for the people of South Carolina. She kept fighting and, thus far, has achieved at least the passage of a temporary measure. Guess who is against this Spending Accountability Act, introduced by Nikki Haley? That’s right. The racist sleazebag, Jake Knotts. Here is the video where Haley takes him on (via Hot Air):

Nikki Haley is an example of the people of South Carolina and for the people of South Carolina. Jake Knotts is an example of the very worst of humanity. The Other McCain has more from Knotts:

“She’s a raghead that’s ashamed of her religion trying to hide it behind being Methodist for political reasons. . . .
“This is Jakie Knotts trying to let the people know . . .
“This isn’t the first time I’ve said it . . . I’m not on a crusade to downgrade her, but if someone asks me I’ll tell ‘em. And look here, someone wants to vote for her knowing the truth, vote for her. . . .
“We need a good Christian to be our governor. . . She’s hiding her religion. She ought to be proud of it. I’m proud of my god.”

How dare he. I’m proud of my god, Jake, and I will leave your judgment up to him. If it were left to me, my Jersey would surely come out. I’m small, but, boy, am I scrappy. In the meantime, the pen, and our voices, are stronger than the sword. South Carolina needs Nikki Haley. And South Carolina needs the morally bankrupt Jake Knotts as far away from our legislature as possible.

Please, use your pens and your voices. Smart Girl Politics has a call to action, denouncing the degenerate Jake Knotts and calling for his resignation. You may add your voices here and may contact Jake Knotts’ office here.

To support Nikki Haley, and the people of South Carolina who quite clearly want and need her to be our Governor, please go here.

He got a high-profile primary challenge for 2012 today. http://thestatecom.typepad.com/ygatoday/2010/06/knotts-rival-says-she-will-challenge-him-again.html
Chairwoman of Lexington County GOP is a pretty good position.

…….because under the current state-media modus operandi, SC State Senator Knotts can be deemed to be inciting violence against Ms. Haley.

Imagine if the tactics were reversed and Ms. Haley would be offering the ‘suggestions’ as to what the state needed……. She would be subject to real assault at every single public appearance.

    Sen. Knotts…….. not so much.

Or remove the officers of said state party if they will not cleanse themselves.

If the leaders of South Carolina Republican Party do not take prompt action to denounce and disavow themselves from these slanders and cut ties with the perpetrators, then steps need to be initiated to repudiated them as we would if the Klu Klux clan or neo-Nazis took over the party leadership.

    • http://www.hakubi.us/ Neil Stevens

It works the other way around.

For the SCGOP to change, the people of SC need to stand up and take the party away from the people Haley (and Sanford, honestly) make uncomfortable.

The NRCC must condemn this and stromgly or else the liberal media will wrap it around the necks of all us conservatives like a noose and strangle us with it in november. olberman and maddow must be licking their chops while waiting this trainwreck

But as they’d get me banned here, I’ll save them for twitter.

“Mister” Knotts would do well to remember that even if his assertion that Nikki Haley is a Sikh were true (and I’m not even intimating he is), Sikhs are not the terrorists who attacked us.

After the outcry against him, how long will it take for Knotts to get in front of a camera saying he “misspoke”? We’ve just witnessed that in Connecticut, i.e., Bluementhal. These people have no ethics whatsoever; scumbags!

  • joecollins

A small token from this conservative Californian’s wallet is heading to Ms Haley’s campaign account. Every little bit helps.

Go Nikki. Beat these bums on the first go-round.

She professed faith in Christ to me personally after I asked her, point blank, if religion had played a role in the campaign.

A person who calls herself a Christian is.

Not that it matters. What matters is honesty, integrity, and class. Nikki has all of that. I’d vote for her as President, or move to a state of which she were governor.

I’d posit that if Jake thinks that being a “raghead” (an ethnic pejorative, not a religious one) has anything to do with how Jesus views his flock, well, he has another thing coming.

and we are not at war with any Sikhs. What an ignorant jackass.

    • http://pocketchangeproductions.net/ anotherindyfilmguy

Sikh’s are one of the main reasons the Army has an exception to allow beards for religious reasons – they are considered that valuable *to our side* that an exception was made for them – muslims not so much…

Bigoted, ignorant and democrat is not a good way to through life…

    • JoeG

The Sikhs were one of the groups that stood in the path of the spread of Islam.

There is a fraction of the Sikhs that seek separation from the rest of India and they have used terrorism towards that goal. But they have no beef with the US.

    • Richard Mullins

Sikhs are not muslims and in a sort of way, more Christian than Muslim. They started as a break off of Islam back in 14th Century but isn’t connected to Islam. I really didn’t know much about Sikhs until I did a little research. The only thing that might be Muslim is the Turbin but that’s just hanging on the old ways. Idiots like Knotts don’t understand that.

      • novimir

Sikhs are not a break away Muslim sect like the Ahmadis in Pakistan.

For more informaton about Sikhs read:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikhism

        • Richard Mullins

but I do know that the Headdressing isn’t close to anything Muslim. I know that it fairly easy to become a christian if you are a sikh. I haven’t talked to the one sikh that worked in the same company as me in a while. I know that the Sikhs have a better website on themselves but I haven’t looked at it in a while.

          • dio55

            Sikhs in WW1 and WW2

            HONOUR, COURAGE, SACRIFICE
            - “There are no finer fighting men in our Army than the Sikhs.”
            - 83,003 Sikh Soldiers killed and 135,000 injured
            - Be inspired by figures such as Hardit Singh; awarded the French Legion of Honour for his courageous actions as a fighter pilot.
A rare and insightful look at the all too forgotten role of Sikhs who fought alongside the Allied forces in securing our freedom.

    • aesthete

I’m of half a mind to send him my copy of “The First and Second Sikh Wars”, but I have a feeling that he’s equally in need of a couple rolls of Charmin’.

Any Sikh chosen at random from any point in the 20th century has probably done more to further Western civilization than Jake Knotts could ever hope to aspire to.

  • yendor

I’m from Georgia and the good people of South Carolina are just about the same as around here. So, after voting for Southern Baptist Jimmy Carter for governor (Not President)I think a lot of us have learned a lesson.
I’ll take a conserative Sikh, Jew, Mormon etc.etc versus the likes of Jake Knotts. I just don’t think this will help him a whole lot with the folks talking about her that way, maybe 30 years ago but not today.

  • saintgeorgegentile

I’m originally from the State of Illinois, County of Cook, City of Chicago. I know what it is like to be stereotyped. Originally it was “You’re from Chicago, you must be in the Mob.” Now it’s “You’re from Chicago, thanks for all the hope ‘n change.” I don’t even tell people where I’m from anymore unless I have to.

  • lucky364

I firmly agree with most of what has been posted here. The headline is a bit unchristian doncha think?

    • conservativecrusade

I got a few comments concerning my Gaelic line about “to hell with Obama….”, even though it does not wish death on him, because of how it may be twisted by dailykos and such yet on here they are outright calling for the death of Knotts.

While his ignorant comment, joking or otherwise, has no business in this world, he in no way has tried to destroy this country as Obama has, yet it is OK to call for his death. Amazing hypocrisy! Bet Kos already has this one and getting a good laugh from it.

    • houstoneagle

I can’t think of a single politician in America whom I would wish death upon. Let’s save this vitriol for murderers and terrorists, please.

Otherwise a good, informative article, especially the video clip.

  • Adjoran

but known for dirty work as well. The interview itself was recorded, but host Wes Donehue, the same Shealy (also a crony of Bauer, shady fixer) toady who was so anxious about what Folks should say, decided not to post it so Knott’s words could be seen live. There were a number of witnesses and his quick apology, however insincere, confirms he said what he said.

The state legislature is the dominant branch here ever since an unfortunate constitutional change some years back. They don’t like having a reformist Governor making headlines and vetoing bloated spending like Sanford has. They can almost always make enough backroom deals to override the veto, but it draws unwanted attention to their cozy little racket.

Haley won’t be able to do much more than Sanford has until we replace corrupt legislators like most of those now serving with people of a mind to reform the whole system. I pray I live to see that.

    • houstoneagle

These are folks duly elected by the people to represent them! If these spendaholic backroomers don’t change their ways and they get re-elected, then the South Carolina voters are getting what they deserve.

Chavez and Castro have cozy little rackets. There is no excuse for a racket to last longer than one election cycle in the United States of America.

So what I’m trying to say is, I’m not disagreeing with your point about their having a racket down there, but let’s focus on the people exercising their right to fire the legislature to burn this racket permanently.

  • Section9

…from the Burt Reynolds movie, The Longest Yard.

There are some green teeth in there somewhere, and probably Moon Pie!

    Give ‘em hell, Nikki!

  • Warrior

Why was she absent from the chamber and missed the vote? Knotts seemed to put a lot of stock in whatever that answer might have been…

    • http://www.columbiateaparty.org conservativensc

Nikki had a speaking engagement at the Greenville Women’s GOP and the vote was tentatively scheduled for the following day. But when Nikki “punched out” so to speak to attend her other engagement, the establishment leadership brought it up for a vote that day just to reflect her absence. Typical dirty politics from Jake and the boys.

  • peg_c

    - we as a party, we has a nation, we as a liberty-loving people. He is repugnant. Good for Haley for standing her ground. I’d LOVE to see her elected governor and Knotts run out of town on a rail.

Hard to believe such a cesspool of state government good ol’ boy politics ever gave birth to Jim DeMint.

  • johnt

on this one. Though they are the biggest racists of all, problem is it’s their own they hate, among others of course.

  • Brian Hibbert

and isn’t afraid to let people know what she thinks is right. I love it!

We need MORE people like her in this party and in leadership positions in this country!

  • aesthete

That the traditional use for one’s posterior is sitting, and not thinking, and that the hole in the middle isn’t for talking.

The historical ignorance, stark racism, sheer arrogance, and, yes, un-Christlikeness of that statement is astounding, and has no place in my party. I sincerely wish his primary opponents the best, and though I’m doing all that I can to restrain myself from wishing the architect of those statements an expedient trip somewhere warmer, I would posit that he’s doing a fine job securing that trip all by his lonesome.

God, but the SC primary is in the gutter (and it has nothing to do with the “raghead”).

But hey, give the man his dues: it’s not like any Southern state has elected a Republican Indian to the Governorship. Oh wait, my bad: I guess Knotts is full of crap (not a rare occurrence for him, I hear).

I’m going to be thrilled when Haley mops the floor with those troglodytes.

  • aesthete

between this, Helen Thomas, and an AZ Congressman asking why someone would be so deluded as to have a black kid on a school mural, it’s been a pretty good week for racist douchebags.

The Lexington County Republican Party may be calling a special meeting (Monday night?) to condemn Senator Jake Knotts in a resolution.

I have a vote and will vote to condemn his remarks.

    • bastiat

Condemn his remarks? How about condemning the state od political correctness you RINOs are creating? Oh, I forgot, Knotts is a white, heterosexual, Christian, southern male who served in the military and law enforcement. Not a protected class…and therefore he can be targeted.

Do you express similiar outrage when people on this site incorporate the term redneck to describe people from a particular region/culture?

  • bastiat

    Meghan MCain w/o the looks,

Very classy monicker!!How can you call yourself a conservative when you are spewing the most vile rhetoric regarding a very conservative Republican in the state legislature? You are an ideal example of political correctness that has run amok. You attack white, southern, Christian males with a verocity( I suppose b/c the press has not defered a protective status to them) that is generally reserved for those who have committed heinous crimes. I would assume that racism, for you, is akin to serious criminal offense. You are a part of the problem today and we do not need RINOs like yourself, David Frum, Mary Cheney and David Brooks lecturing the rank and file on diversity, which Im sure is a staple of your philosophy.

You do not comprehend the outrage out there when your president declares-this is not a Christian nation. You will never fully comprehend what it is like to be a part of the most hated group in the U.S. today- white, heterosexual, Christian males. It has even become the norm in most circles to tag them with a racial slur- “redneck”. Whether you like it or not- we are the majority of tea party movement and we will continue to influence Republican party politics. You have aligned yourself with the Charile Crist wing of the party and hopefully people like you will eventually find your true home: the DNC.

Why is it illegitmate to question Nimrata Randhawa’s conversion, prior faith or loyalty? Im sure the use of her real name will offend you just as much as the use of Obama’s middle name. The question I pose to you is: Why? If your intellect matched the verocity and hatred of of your last article, you would be a force to be reckoned with. I was happy to discover as I read your article that this was definitely not the case. In the future, please think prior to posting a barely intelligible rant. Jake Knotts is a veteran of the armed forces and was a detective for years. It is just like a liberal to attack someone associated with the military and law enforcement. And your service to country??Nimrata’s service?

You are the typical Bob Inglis, Lindsey Graham supporting liberal who will never understand the rank and file.

Oh, and by the way…GET OUT OF MY PARTY!!

  • johnwcowan

… I despise this as much as any of you do. Knotts may not be able to help being ignorant, but he can certainly learn to keep his ignorant opinions to himself. Better yet, let him find himself a station in life in which his opinions will matter only to his neighbors.

But I’ll go further. This is the United States, where religious tests for public office are explicitly banned by the U.S. Constitution (Article 6, Section 2 of the S.C. constitution does impose one, but it doesn’t affect Sikhs. How about fixing that?) That includes people who pretend to have one religion while actually having another or none at all. Voters may well decide that the hypocrisy involved in being a secret Sikh, or a secret Muslim for that matter, is a character issue relevant to election. But it isn’t and can’t be a bar to election in itself.

It is un-American to try to make a candidate’s religion by itself an issue in elections. Back in 1959, there were howls about how Kennedy would be turning this country over to the Pope. Don’t think that actually happened, unless you count the current Catholic majority on the Supreme Court, all of them nominated by Protestant presidents. Let’s keep this country one in which a person’s religion or lack of it is a personal choice, not an indication of loyalty or treason to the republic.
