Gary McDowell is the doomed Democrat running against rising Republican star Dr. Dan Benishek in MI-01. Gary McDowell doesn’t really hate your grandma. It’s nothing personal, mind you.
He just thinks she should have to compete for budget like any other part of the bureaucracy.
Come on, Grams! Make your case! Show your budgetary requirements in the current fiscal outlook going forward. And speaking of going forward, we’re not sure you’re going to be able to complete the current budget cycle in year Zero, much less years One through Five. So along with your funding request for that hip replacement and the seeing eye dog, please present evidence that you’ll be finishing out the year with us here, alive.
Because it’s all one pie, you know.
(h/t Steven Foley)
And while you’re at it, Grams, just put together some numbers on why you would be a good fit for that cancer drug, when we already know you’re a good fit for a pain pill.
‘
Dr. Dan Benishek, on the other hand, knows that medical decisions should be made at the most local level possible, and that is between a doctor and patient. He supports reforming our current great medical system to make it better.
“As a practicing physician for almost 30 years, I know what it takes to deliver quality health care. Having the federal government manage, supervise, and oversee this critical part of our society is a formula for less access, less care, and more rationing.” — Dr. Dan Benishek
But there is one area in which Gary McDowell excels: the personal smear. It seems that 20 years ago Benishek restructured his finances to reduce his child support costs. This kind of thing happens, in one form or another, in every child support case. Non-custodial parents want to decide for themselves how best to support their children, and not have some judge decide. The family court refused the restructure, and Dr. Dan dropped the matter.
But Gary McDowell didn’t. He dredged up the case and tried to spin it as avoiding child support.
Unfortunately for McDowell, Benishek’s ex-wife and children will have nothing of it:
Ex-Wife DePuydt comes to Benishek’s defense and calls her current relationship with him “amicable.” Their daughter, Kirby, says her dad always provided for them and notes, “He also named all of us kids as trustees and beneficiaries of his company, to ensure our security should anything ever happen to him. The fact that my dad’s political opponents are trying to use us to damage the reputation of a very good man is disgusting. Any news outlet that entertains this story is not concerned with the reality of the situation.”
Time is running short, U.P. Tell your neighbors, people at church, employees, and friends to vote for Republican Dan Benishek on November 2.

Great post Soc ...for Obama, money should not go to care for the elderly
fpete13527 (Diary) Thursday, October 7th at 2:13PM EDT (link)Obama’s pathetic answer shows exactly who he is. For Obama, he will make the decisions for you as long as it will enhance Socialist/Marxist principles and not interfere with his commitment to death panels at the earliest age possible.
Absolutely don’t use the advancements in medicine to extend life. This money needs to go to Unions, ACORN, and additional DemComm owned bank for bailouts under stealth passage of DemComm Bailouts Act.
Gibson of course agrees with the concept of – the earlier the death panels the better. He is far more concerned about getting to the truth with the evil Sarah Palin regarding what the Bush Anti-Terror Doctrine was (IE against terror). Charlie doesn’t agree that an anti-terror doctrine should be anti-terror.
Charlie is much more in favor of the Obama Overseas Sharia Expansion Contingency and Bankrupt America Doctrine which is to…..expand Sharia in US and abroad, empower Iran, and put a terrorist Mosque at the site of a war memorial, and let the elderly die. I’m sending money to Doc Dan now. The guy is great and will help turn the tide that is being attempted under the disgrace to humanity President that we have along with the disgrace to humanity DemComm Congress that has empowered him.

Broken clock still right twice a day
towellman Thursday, October 7th at 11:08PM EDT (link)Sorry ya’ll, but as a physician who witnesses incredible amounts of money spent to prolong life just a few weeks, I am more inclined to side with the presidents general position on this one. You have to realize 1 in 6 dollars spent by the federal government is on Medicare and of those 1/3 to 1/2 is spent in the last year of life.
Republicans have to prove they are serious about balancing the budget and IT CANNOT BE DONE WITHOUT MEDICARE, SOCIAL SECURITY and MILITARY CUTS. These three programs account for over 1/2 of the federal budget (1.7 trillion of 3.2 trillion). With a budget deficit of 1.3 trillion this year we could eliminate almost every other function of the federal government and still be in the red.
Some form of rationing (I know an evil word) has to be accepted, whether it be voluntary (choosing hospice over aggressive therapies at the end of life), financial (larger copays or requiring supplemental insurance), or imposed (true rationing…some beaurocrat says no). It needs to be done. Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on someone who will be dead in 6 months one way or another is simply a misuse of taxpayers money. If it’s your money feel free, but greater responsibility is required with taxpeayers money, than simply caving in to emotional arguments.
But that woman was 99
Adjoran (Diary) Friday, October 8th at 3:42AM EDT (link)And was still alive and well at 105.
So it isn’t a question of prolonging misery an extra six months, is it? It’s about drawing some arbitrary line, be it in years of age or dollars already spent.
Of COURSE “there will be some form of rationing” – there is now. There always is. People run out of money and/or coverage. It happens.
The difference is that in one case people and their families make their own decisions, and in the other some bureaucrat who never knew any of them decides when they live and when they die.
There is always rationing, and there can be no “fair” rationing, because that word is without any concrete meaning. It is of a far higher nature to allow the rationing to occur naturally, though, through people’s individual choices and decisions, than to have arbitrary one-size-fits-all standards imposed upon everyone by nameless bureaucrats with no accountability for their errors.
If you are a physician, given your expressed beliefs, I pray God you have no influence over life and death decisions for your patients. For even if you are only a podiatrist, I pity the poor old lady whose ingrown toenail becomes infected.
Estimates are that up to 1/3 of Medicare and Medicaid payouts are fraudulent
Beaglescout (Diary) Friday, October 8th at 6:25PM EDT (link)That is the first thing to attack. Second thing is to get some serious tort reform in place to slow down the speed of price increases. Third is to repeal vast amounts of regulations (including Obamacare) that add to medical costs without increasing quality. Fourth is to defund and then dissolve the most destructive parts of the US Government, such as the labor department, education, and energy just to start.
