Herman Cain’s Sex Scandal Just Became More Fun

AP Exclusive: Third Worker Says Harassed By Cain

WASHINGTON (AP) — A third former employee says she considered filing a workplace complaint over what she considered aggressive and unwanted behavior by Herman Cain when she worked for the presidential candidate in the 1990s. She says the behavior included a private invitation to his corporate apartment.

She worked for the National Restaurant Association when he was its head. She told The Associated Press that Cain made sexually suggestive remarks or gestures about the same time that two co-workers had settled separate harassment complaints against him.

The employee described situations in which she said Cain told her he had confided to colleagues how attractive she was and invited her to his corporate apartment outside work. She spoke on condition of anonymity, saying she feared retaliation.

Cain’s campaign declined to comment.

I don’t know if it is time to stick a fork in this particular deep crust but things aren’t looking good for the Cain Campaign.

Declined to comment? What planet does his campaign think they are living on?

Time For Cain to Step Down!

bzip Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:29PM EDT (link)

It is time that Cain drop out of the election.

It is time that Cain stop embarrassing the conservatives.

It is about time Cain got his personal life in order.

Its about time Cain realizes he isn’t qualified to be President (no matter how much you anti-politicians want him, he isn’t qualified)!

Bzip,

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:35PM EDT (link)

You know that I agree with you that Cain is unqualified. If more comes out, and it very well may, Cain maybe should step down at that time. I don’t think it does any good to demand his resignation before this story has fully come out.

That said, if the worst of this story is true, and Cain knew it (and I don’t see how it could be true without him knowing it), then he should come clean. I honestly don’t know what the fallout for his campaign would be.

Not sure who it benefits, but

texas214 (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:29PM EDT (link)

I did find it interesting that a Perry pollster was quoted as somewhat confirming he had seen the same thing.

Yes, because the best way to secretly pass on oppo research

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:31PM EDT (link)

is by having a pollster for one of your PACs (not a campaign staffer) go on the public record as knowing something about the allegations.

I don't give much credence to this one

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:29PM EDT (link)

I think there is much more of a story for the other two, who came out during Cain’s tenure. This one apparently is just saying something for the first time.

That said, if she does become the second person to say that Cain invited her to his room, which it sounds like she might be, she may give that much more credence to the woman who did sue, and make it less likely that he had innocent motives in doing so.

But this one seems like a non-story unless it ends up tying into the first two.

That said, I don’t think the Ostrich defense is going to work now.

This One is More Clear

jonerik Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:37PM EDT (link)

Its always the little details that give one pause. This accusation speaks of being invited to a ‘corporate apartment’ that was apparently inhabited by Cain. Who knew he had a corporate apartment before this accusation surfaced? A hotel room is a transient thing, and trysts happen there while ‘on the road.’ An apartment paid for by the corporation is far more permanent, at least less transient and can’t be easily passed off as being ‘on the road’ etc.

Actually I think this accusation has a lot of credibility. The woman says she ‘considered’ filing a suit but didn’t do it. Its easy to see why someone wouldn’t in those days…just look at how Juanita Broderick, Paula Jones and Kathleen Willey were treated when they spoke out. Who would want that?

I guess what I am trying to say is...

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:43PM EDT (link)

I agree with your points, but I don’t think this is going to be the topper. I think it will come into play if the details of the other two, or at least one of the other two comes out. I think it’s probative value is more in corroborating the other stories than in this story itself.

That and it is harder to say that three people just misunderstood him and that he didn’t do anything inappropriate.

It seems Newt may be the last man standing,

texas214 (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:35PM EDT (link)

and possibly the most articlutate spokesman for the conservative cause.

My understanding is

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:38PM EDT (link)

Newt has even bigger financial and organizational challenges than Cain, which is saying a lot.

The guy who thinks that balancing the budget is right-wing social engineering?

thirstyboots Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:39PM EDT (link)

Yeah, very articulate spokesman for the convervative cause. Wait, what?

If the sexual harassment claims against Cain

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:08PM EDT (link)

are enough to take him out, what do you think the story about Newt telling a former wife in the hospital for cancer will do to him. Newt supports ethanol subsidies. Newt supported the individual mandate. Newt sat on the couch with Pelosi. There’s lots more of that also.

ps- Meant to say

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:10PM EDT (link)

Newt told a former wife, in the hospital for cancer, that he wanted a divorce so he could marry his new girlfriend, all while he was bashing Clinton for the Lewinski deed.

Cain Says Perry Camp Behind Sex Harassment Leak

Brookhaven (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:54PM EDT (link)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/richardminiter/2011/11/02/herman-cain-sexual-harassment-leak/

Yep, just got a lot more “fun”.

Well, if you absolutely want to assure that Perry's supporters will never vote for you

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:00PM EDT (link)

That’s about the best possible way of doing it.

All 5% of them?

Brookhaven (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:02PM EDT (link)

Cain believes the stories are comming from the Perry camp, and has now said so on record.

You're absolutely right

gator_hoo (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:05PM EDT (link)

I mean, Cain has never been at 5% in the polls. What was I thinking?

And if you think it is going to be just Perry supporters that see this as the attempt to smear another candidate that it is, I hate to break it to ya.

Yeah, like it's really great politics for Cain

clintonformccain Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:06PM EDT (link)

to keep this story alive for another few news cycles with a public accusation that gets him nothing but grief.

What a much of clowns. Seriously.

Another news cycle?

Brookhaven (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:19PM EDT (link)

It’s obvious that the plan by whoever is behind this was to drip, drip, drip out the accusations to keep it going as long as possible.

Had Cain done nothing, another “anonymous source” would have come forward again later in the week, and then another Monday, and then another Thursday, and then…

So, Cain has gone on the offensive after the person he thinks is behind the leaks. That’s probably a good strategy, if you want to get this over with as quickly as possible.

I’m not sure if Cain is right or wrong. Either way, I don’t see both Cain and Perry surviving this. If Cain is wrong, then he’ll get damanged for falsely accusing the Perry campaign.

On the other hand, if Cain is right (that Perry is behind this) it will quickly spell the end of the Perry campaign. GOP voters (at least the tea party wing of the GOP) are not in the mood for mudslinging campaigns. The country is in serious trouble, and they want candidates focused on issues, not smear campaigns.

Either the Perry of Cain campaign is going to end over this, and pretty quickly (imho).

If Cain were actually innocent

porkandcheese Wednesday, November 2nd at 10:02PM EDT (link)

He could have “gone on the offensive” by setting the record straight as soon as he was approached by Politico. I have zero sympathy for this man.

Yeah Nerd- Cain also said that

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:12PM EDT (link)

the attacks are racist on Fox last night. So what’s he gonna do now, say he was right about that rock story all along? Cain=the race card candidate.

This makes the Cain camp look more deceptive

tyman Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:18PM EDT (link)

If you read the story, Cain says he remembers talking to Curt Anderson. He says he didn’t try to hide it.

The Cain camp acted like they tried to hide it in the beginning, and based on Herman not even recalling that there was a settlement.

If Herb has been for Romney all along, I doubt he would blame Romney even though the NRA CEO post-Herman seems more credible because he probably knew about the settlement, etc.

If Curt Anderson leaked this, his political consultant days would be over: not the best of incentives.

Mr. Cain, man up!

texasroots Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:10PM EDT (link)

Cain’s credibility is gone. On Anderson Cooper’s show, attorney for accusers said that CEO who replaced Cain leaked the story and is in Romney’s camp. So, Cain, comes out and accuses Perry. Cain is not a conservative. Looks like the sexual allegations are not all of Cain’s secrets. Just read online the National Enquirer alleging that Cain’s health problems are worse than he has stated, and is not fit to be president. Cain’s medical records are coming out. Also, that Cain’s net worth is $18M, The health issue is more important than the sexual allegations. People are not naive of what goes on in the board rooms, factories, offices, etc .

If anyone believes that Cain will win, you’re in deep denial. Cain was resurrected from single digit polls and is being propped up, only to be deflated by Romney, if and when Perry exits. Cain is only doing inteference for Romney.

Cain No Credibility and an Embarrassment

bzip Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:12PM EDT (link)

Cain has lot all credibility long ago and now even more. Accuses another campaign (Perry) without evidence – Cain has no credibility and is a total embarrassment.

I think that Perry needs to be worried

pdawk Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:06PM EDT (link)

Yet another example of Cain's support of Romney

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:19PM EDT (link)

His job all along has been to take Perry out of the way so he can help his buddy Mitt win the WH. There are as many connections to Romney for being behind this, yet Cain comes out against Perry. He’s still doing his job assigned to him by the devious Mitt.

Ha, now there is a third woman coming out with charges against Cain for sexual harassment.

3 or 4 more of these and Cain will...

clintonformccain Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:56PM EDT (link)

cement a commanding lead in the polls of likely Republican voters. Now, if somebody would just accuse him of child molestation, he’d probably wrap up the nomination.

What about Bill

ldmartin1959 Wednesday, November 2nd at 5:06PM EDT (link)

Bill Clinton did far worse than what Cain is being accused of having done. And mind you, there is no evidence to support the claims of these women against Cain. With Clinton, there was a blue dress and lots of other supporting evidence. But what was the media’s attitude about Bill and Monica? Or Bill and all the other women he sexually harassed (for which there was documentation)? Could the hypocrisy of the media be more blatant?

I also think the GOP has much to answer for in this since they seem to be promoting the media bias so they can get rid of Cain. When they have to work this hard and this dirty to get rid of someone, I have to wonder what they are afraid of/

Heck, it worked for Clinton. Is Dick Morris working for the Cain campaign?

All kidding aside, I haven’t seen any proof the allegations are true yet. They are simply allegations by people with motives and anonymous sources.

What are we going to do when our party finally has a nominee and the Democrats famously pull this stuff out? Point to the President’s admitted cocaine abuse?

“Both of our political parties, at least the honest portion of them, agree conscientiously in the same object—the public good; but they differ essentially in what they deem the means of promoting that good. Poor Herman–they’re going to bar him from making pizzas ever again. /sarcasm off

Seriously, at present this is nothing more than a smear campaign until someone actually gets in front of the camera and substantiates the charges. And, true, Cain and his staff have been on what could only be termed as a campaign of destruction and finger-pointing, but they have, so far, done nothing to compare with James Carville’s “bimbo eruption” comment during the Clinton destructo tour.

This appears to be little more than the “Anita Hilling” of Herman Cain, and he and his staff need to button it until he can confront his accusers.

Republicans sometimes play too fair with the opposition. Had Anita Hill gone after a liberal candidate for SCOTUS, the liberal MSM would have used the fact that she taught at Oral Roberts University to crucify her.

Currently, I am not in the tank for anybody, and I am willing to wait until this all shakes out before I stomp on anyone. I have heard from a number of Cain’s former female staffers at NRA that they saw none of this kind of behavior from him. While he has made some missteps and said some things he’s going to regret, Cain may very well survive this.

Breaking news

from Politico
————————————————-
New details in the Herman Cain sexual harassment story: The Associated Press reports that a third woman has told them of inappropriate behavior by Cain during his years at the National Restaurant Association; a veteran Republican pollster tells an Oklahoma City radio station and POLITICO that Cain sexually harassed a woman at an Arlington, Va., restaurant in the late 1990s; an Iowa radio host also tells POLITICO that Cain said “awkward” and “inappropriate things” to station staffers during a recent visit; and Cain, in an interview with Forbes, accuses former 2004 campaign consultant Curt Anderson of leaking damaging information about past sexual harassment allegations. Anderson denies the charge to POLITICO.
———————————————————————————————————————
I know this is Politico but what else is going to come out on Cain? We need to be focused on taking out Obama but instead we get no policy news on the Republican candidates just news on Cain’s “sex” stories. Enough is enough!

Guess who has named Anderson in comments here today?

Cain Deflecting: Step Down Cain!

It’s a great way to deflect attention off of Cain and onto another candidate (in this case Perry).

Does Cain actually think this is going to work.

Put a fork in this garbage and lets move on.

Cain Step aside and step down so you don’t embarrass the party anymore than you have.

Streiff, you're condeming Cain without ONE iota of proof. Why are we conservatives so eager, so happy to eat our own because of a few lines in the MSM?

gawken (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:29PM EDT (link)

I don’t know what happened. No one does, except Cain, and the women involved. So let’s wait, and stop the damn gloating….and this from the same people here who were SOOOOOO upset the pther day because the Labor Sec used the term “teabaggers”

What I do know is that Cain is a LOUSY politician..because he’ obviously hasn’t handled this well. Well, that’s why millions love the guy..because he’s NOT a politician. But he’ll learn

So here, as they say, is an “alternative theory” of the case:

First, watching Cain’s multiple appearances yesterday on FOX, including with the panel on Special Reeport, I was struck by how calm, cool, and comfortable he was when asked about these charges. He semed to me like a man who knew he hadn’t done anything wrong, and would ultimately be vindicated. That’s hard to fake.

Cain said one thing that’s been ignored so far. The SECOND allegation came AFTER he’d left the NRA. The first case supposedly happened in public, in a restaurant, in front of others. Well, soon the libtards will be saying that Cain’s TOO STUPID to be president, beciuase who in his right mind sexually harasses a staffer in public, in front of others?

So a small settlement is ofered, and accepted, to make it go away. THat’s the smart business decision. And then Cain leaves. So now, maybe the SECOND woman sees her opportunity for a quick score. She knows that a settelemt was reached. Heck..maybe she even knows the first woman. So she makes a claim of harassment. What’s the NRA gonna do..haul Cain back? Nope..just write another check.

And now the third lady. We know nogthing about her. Maybe she’s a blogger for the HuffPost, or a memeber of MoveON. Maybe she’s Anita Hill’s niece. Geez..let’s find out . All three of these women will become publioc faces soon..you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube, and EVERYTHING in their lives will come out. And maybe payback will be a bitch for them..deservedly so.

Everything I’ve just written is eminently plausible…so let’s just wait.

But come on…let’s have the decency to wait before we hand the guy.

But come on…let’s have the decency to wait

bandwagon. The leftist media has it out for Perry
more than any other candidate.

Those who had once simpered: “I don’t want to destroy the rich, I only want to seize a little of their surplus to help the poor, just a little, they’ll never miss it!” – then, later, had snapped: “The tycoons can stand being squeezed; they’ve amassed enough to last them for three generations” – then, later, had yelled: “Why should the people suffer while businessmen have reserves to last a year?” – now were screaming: “Why should we starve while some people have reserves to last a week?” – Atlas Shrugged

I've been a reader of The Morning Briefing since it began.

Erickson is one of my top 5 conservative writers. I’ve been egged on to start a blog to express myself (and it would give my friends’ Inboxes a rest), but I’ve got to make a living and I’m lazy. So, I at least started an acount here and may start a “diary”.

Anyway, this is the first time I’ve gone through a comment section here—-because I wanted to comment on strieff’s dumping on Cain. I can’t believe how many here are dumping on Cain. It just makes me sad. I’ve been wrong in my life (maybe once). But Cain is a true conservative whom I’ve admired for over 15 years, and I don’t bail on people I admire when they are expectedly attacked. We knew the high-tech lynching of Cain was coming, and it’s going to get worse. The libs will do anything to remain in power. Until I have proof that Cain is a sleazeball, this crap just makes me root for him more—-as I did for Clarence Thomas during his hearings when Anita Hill lied her butt off. The appearance of Perry being behind this, coupled with his boorishness in the debates and some ads——and Bachmann joining in the pile on Cain—–has just catapulted Sir Newt into my #2 slot.

Our enemy is the Dems and the Marxist libs who support them.

Now, streiff, at some point the Cain campaign has to do some “no comments”. It’s not going to stop, In fact, I think Cain has laid himself bare too much if anything. Greta Van Susteren disgusted me with her overkill interrogation the other night. I hope Cain and his people will just roll their eyes from now on and say, “You people will never give it up, will ya. Herman Cain is an admirable man who should be the President to stop the Democrat destruction of this country, and this character assassination isn’t working.”

Amen.
While the debate and competition among primary candidates is admirable (and valuable), the circular firing squad must stop. Any of the candidates would be preferable to Obama. Most of them are outright good. None are perfect, and that is the reason why we promote “rule of law, not men”, and “bind them down by the limits of the Constitution” as conservatives.

We need to project the narrative that we are HAPPY about the choices we have in this election cycle!

It seems people will do anything to give Perry maybe a point or two in the polls

Doc Holliday (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:19PM EDT (link)

How any of this makes Perry a better candidate vs. Obama I don’t know. I noticed that the Rush, Hannity, and Levin types are defending Cain. I guess that won’t be happening here. When the right starts siding with the drive by media on their hits, something has seriously gone wrong.

I will say this, Perry has a lot more class than some of his supporters.

It was sad to see Rush and Hannity place their credibility

streiff (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:53PM EDT (link)

on the line in the service of a guy who is obviously lying through his teeth on this. Particularly Hannity claiming that Cain was being treated unfairly because he is black. I thought I was going to throw up in my mouth.

Right now there are three women that we know of. A conservative talk show host in Iowa says Cain made inappropriate comments to his female employees. This indicates a pattern of behavior that we all recognize.

“What keeps me here is the reek of beer, the ladies and the craic”

Has anyone, as yet, put a name to any of the accusers?

rickbull Wednesday, November 2nd at 9:38PM EDT (link)

We know who the accused is: Herman Cain.

WE ARE THE 53% (who actually pay taxes).

Rush got into bed with Cain too quickly.

jackdaniels11 Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:00PM EDT (link)

Rush, unlike in 2008 when he had a lot of nice things to say about Romney, is now part of the “anyone-but-Romney” crowd.

What happened between 2008 and 2011? Did Romney suddenly become a liberal?

Or did Rush realize that his fan base had moved over to the Tea Party right and Rush would need to echo their concerns or they would leave him?

I was for Romney in 2008 and I’m still for him.

Perry is polling behind Newt and Paul

seth90212 Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:23PM EDT (link)

and he is a terrible candidate. Moreover, it is too soon after GWB. The country is loathe to elect another TX governor with tortured syntax and pretensions to good ol’ boyism..

Perry has no chance at the nomination, imo, with or without Cain.

Come on. Those of you who don't support Cain

Michael Dugas (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 7:53PM EDT (link)

are going to to lend credence to some unsubstantiated story by an anonymous person who never filed anything? Where are your heads?

You a couple of years ago strieff fluttered his eyes at me and I felt uncomfortable… he should be banned.

izoneguy just said Cain should do Geico commercials! What he looks like a caveman? You Racist you! ban him now!

Those statements make as much sense as all of you giving credence to unsubstantiated rumors being run by our friends the MSM…..no matter WHO started it.

So much for do no harm right?

I agree.

Ban them both. They would do the same to a Mitt Romney supporter who had the guts to confront this site on the anti-Romney bias that has now been noted by politico.

They just look for ticky-tack rules and selectively enforce them on the pro-Romney crowd.

Yeah, Politico, that wanna be leftist site.

Some people smell money and go nuts

seth90212 Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:02PM EDT (link)

I suspect a certain percentage of women who worked for or with Herman Cain will be tempted to claim harassment in the hopes of somehow cashing in. Pay attention to how much money the first two get for talking, if indeed they talk, and how much publicity and exposure they receive. Remember Tiger Woods. A bunch of women came out of the woodwork and claimed to have slept with him after they saw all the attention and offers the others were getting.

In today’s workplace a glace, a smile a frown or a pat on the shoulder could result in a full blown harassment complaint. In fact we don’t know if it wasn’t Herman Cain who turned these women down. Rejected women have also been known to file sexual harassment charges in retaliation.

Real harassment is terrible. But so far none of the claims rise to the reasonable person standard. We’re hearing ridiculous statements such as: “he said something inappropriate, it wasn’t entirely of a sexual nature, but I can’t tell you what it was”. Or, “his wife’s never around so he must be up to no good.” LOL..

At least Ginnifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Juanita Broderick and all the others were willing to come forward and answer questions. This hiding in the shadows and anonymously defaming Herman Cain is not even worthy of being reported.

And had no problem seeing their own names in the headlines.

rickbull Wednesday, November 2nd at 10:00PM EDT (link)

At this point, NDA’s or not, what do Cain’s accusers have to lose. NDA’s are out the window at this point–and what, the judge is going to put them on a payment plan to pay back the settlement money?

I’m seeing attorneys’ names, and I’m not seeing accusers’ names. We know why the attorneys are talking to the press: free advertising! But the accusers? It must be a blast to throw rocks at a leading contender for POTUS, and not have to worry about getting any dents in your own precious reputation.

Cain’s accusers are cowards. I’ll put it simply: step in front of a camera and tell us who you are and why we should believe you.

WE ARE THE 53% (who actually pay taxes).

Why has not the first Cain family member come out and supported him?

Scope (Diary) Wednesday, November 2nd at 8:55PM EDT (link)

Not the wife, not the kids, not the grandkids, no one. I have yet to see the first Cain family member come out with any statements in support of him. Isn’t that a little strange?

And the image of Elliot Spitzer's wife standing beside him at the podium

rickbull Wednesday, November 2nd at 9:49PM EDT (link)

just popped into my head.

Could be that Herman frowns on using his family as a shield. Would anyone actually believe his family if they didn’t believe him?

WE ARE THE 53% (who actually pay taxes).

Anyone can claim Sexual Harassment for almost anything

btpull Wednesday, November 2nd at 9:57PM EDT (link)

The gist of sexual harassment is based on the accusers feeling. So a simply innocent complement or comment can be the bases of a sexual harassment claim. One thing this “scandal” has shown is how out of control our sexual harassment laws have become.

Streiff, the better question is, IMO,
