Karma. Irony. Schadenfreude. All rolled up into a tight little ball and tied with a cute red bow.

A Ukrainian group calling itself Cyber Hunta has released more than a gigabyte of emails and other material from the office of one of Vladimir Putin’s top aides, Vladislav Surkov, that show Russia’s fingerprints all over the separatist movement in Ukraine.

While the Kremlin has denied the relationship between Moscow and the separatists, the emails show in great detail how Russia controlled virtually every detail of the separatist effort in the Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine, which has torn the country apart and led to a Russian takeover of Crimea.

And unlike the reported Russian hack of the Democratic National Committee, the Ukrainian hack reached deep into the office of the Russian president.

You can read an overview of some of these emails here. As the NBC News lede says, they demonstrate conclusively that the “separatist” movement in Ukraine is an enterprise wholly owned by the Kremlin. One of the most damning items is a letter drafted pleading for a cease fire that was run in several Russian language outlets. The letter, allegedly written by a fearful citizen, was written by Kremlin propagandists.

Unfortunately, this will never have the effect in the United States that it should have. The emails are in some ferrin language, it doesn’t even use the Roman alphabet so I can’t pronounce the words slow and loud and understand them. The American media has not interest in exposing Russian aggression because a majority of the media were sympathetic to the USSR in its day and they remain sympathetic to the ideals of Comintern as well as hating American influence.

Where these emails will make a difference is across Eastern Europe was Russian agents of influence are exposed for all to see.
