Terry McAuliffe: Abortion Is Great For Business

I swear I am not making this up.

Virginia Republicans have announced they will introduce a 20-week abortion ban in the General Assembly in the upcoming session. It is hard to see how anyone who actually cares about Roe vs. Wade can oppose such a law. Right now a twenty week old fetus may very well be viable outside the womb and the Roe trimester rubric clearly allows states to regulate abortion once the point of viability has been reached.

Virginia Governor, former Clinton bag man, and walking puddle of corruption Terry McAuliffe is having none of it. According to McAuliffe, not aborting babies that are viable makes Virginia less competitive to businesses looking to relocate:

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is promising to veto legislation banning abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, saying such a “socially divisive” proposal hurts the state’s image.

McAuliffe, a Democrat, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he wants to send a clear message to the Republican-controlled General Assembly not to “waste time” trying to be part of that effort.

…But the governor said he needed to make clear to companies looking to invest in Virginia that the legislation had no hope of passage.

“I can’t sit back and have that sitting out the same time I am traveling the globe recruiting businesses to Virginia,” McAuliffe said, adding that he is going on an important recruiting trip this weekend. “If there’s something that would be damaging toward business, and to our image around the country and the globe, I’ll veto it, you bet I will.”

The number of businesses who are going to make a business decision based on their female employees or family members being able to get a late term abortion is so small as to be nonexistent. What is insane here is that McAuliffe doesn’t even invoke “choice” or “women’s rights” but goes straight for the most ridiculous and counterfactual argument he can make. If this is the best case the pro-aborts can come up with, they have really lost this battle.
