Virginia Governor probably thought this week couldn’t get any worse. Yesterday he set off a firestorm by justifying infanticide in a radio interview. He capped off the day by holding a press conference in which the best explanation he could give was that he didn’t have a vagina and shouldn’t care if a mother killed her baby as it was being born.

Welp, he may have been wrong.

Virginia Democrat governor Ralph Northam posed for a blackface photograph.

Big League Politics has obtained photos from Northam’s time at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, from which he graduated in 1984.

Northam and a friend were photographed together — one in blackface, one in Klan robes.

Northam’s quote: “There are more old drunks than old doctors in this world so I think I’ll have another beer.”

As always, there are concerns about authenticity when things that are just too good to check suddenly surface. Northam has run statewide twice. If Northam was a Republican it would be an obvious fraud because Democrats know how to do oppo research. The thing that makes me think this may be true is that Northam is a Democrat and establishment types like Ed Gillespie would rather lose and be admired for being a good loser than play to win. The fact there hasn’t been a denial from Northam’s office yet is also interesting. But, to reiterate, the provenance of this page is unknown and it appears at just a perfect time…maybe a little too perfect. Absent a hard copy of the yearbook we really can’t tell. So I’m not presenting this as a “he did it” but more of a public service to let people know it is out there and it may or may not be real. As Ace says:

Big League says they have “obtained photos,” which is vague.

“Obtained photos” could mean “someone sent us gifs of the yearbook,” which is not great proof because these things are easily faked. All you’d have to do is take a picture of Ralph Northam’s page but then swap in a blackface photo from some other source. It is impossible to look a guy in blackface — from 30 years ago — and say “That’s not Ralph Northam, that’s an imposter!”

On the other hand, if they have the yearbook itself, that’s a lot harder to fake. Then you’re talking about a lot of time and expertise to fake a physical book and artificially age the paper and etc.

So is this real? I dunno. I’m going to leave it to the photo’s mother and doctor to decide if it is viable. Until then, I’m going to keep it comfortable.

So if it is fake, Northam should just deny it.

THEY MAY BE REAL FOLKS.
The Virginian-Pilot is running with the story.
