Stupid Celebrity News: U2 Delays Latest Album Because of Trump's Election Win

In today’s episode of “Stupid Celebrity News”…

Seriously, I get it! Nobody who has read my coverage of the election season, or its aftermath is going to mistake me for a Trump supporter.

I do believe, with everything in me, that a Trump win would not have been possible if not for a deadening of our cultural mores.

That being said, the people that are known by the media as “stars” need to get a grip.

Apparently, because of Donald Trump’s win, the band, U2, has decided to delay a scheduled release of their latest album, “Songs of Experience.”

The band’s guitarist, The Edge, told Rolling Stone the album was “pretty much complete,” and then the election happened and “suddenly the world changed.”

Not really. Nothing sudden about it. It’s been sliding downhill for some time, but I’ll let you continue.

“We just went, ‘Hold on a second – we’ve got to give ourselves a moment to think about this record and about how it relates to what’s going on in the world,'” the guitarist said.

“That’s because it was written mostly, I mean, 80 percent of it was started before 2016, but most of it was written in the early part of 2016, and now, as I think you’d agree, the world is a different place.”

He compared the election of Trump to a “pendulum” that “has suddenly just taken a huge swing in the other direction.”

You mean that great awakening that Barack Obama began couldn’t be completed, because there would be no woman president to continue on in the misguided direction of identity politics?

“So we said look, ‘Look, let’s do both. We can really celebrate this album, which is really born again in this context, and we can also really get a chance to think about these songs and make sure they’re really what we want to put out,'” the guitarist said.

Unless there were anthems to Hillary Clinton in there, I can’t see what problem with context there would be.

“We may even write a couple of new songs because that’s the very position we’re in,” he said. “We’ve given ourselves a little bit of breathing space for creativity.”

Who else gets the feeling that when they finally do release this album, it will have all the rocking pep of a funeral dirge?
