No Evidence Of Trump Campaign Contact With Russia, According to Intel Chairman

Devin Nunes, House Intelligence Committee Chairman, is saying that to date, there has been no evidence of contact between Trump campaign aides and Russia.

“We still don’t have any evidence of them talking to Russians,” Mr. Nunes said as he briefed reporters. “As of right now, the initial inquiries I’ve made to the appropriate agencies, I don’t have any evidence.”

He said he’s interested in evidence, but it doesn’t appear the investigative agencies have it.

This sort of pushes against what others have said.

The New York Times has published articles, speaking about the repeated contact between Trump’s aides and Russian intelligence, based on intercepted phone calls.

You will continue to hear the names: Roger Stone, Paul Manafort, Carter Page, and now, Michael Flynn come up in those conversations, no doubt.

The Russia “thing” is not going to fade into the sunset.

Nunes says he has had an ongoing investigation into Russian activity that he had wished to keep on the down low, but because of the accusations against Trump’s team, he has been forced to make things more public.

Mr. Nunes said he had asked for evidence on three persons that reports said were involved in the conversations, and nothing has come back. While he refused to identify or speak for the investigative agencies, he said they don’t seem to have found anything themselves.

“The way it sounds like to me is it’s been looked into and there’s no evidence of anything there,” he said.

He invited whistleblowers who may have evidence to come forward and speak directly to his committee.

That’s a start. If they have something, come forward.

From some of the talk that you find floating about the world wide interwebs, however, you get the impression that people would rather remain anonymous.

The current political climate doesn’t exactly invite free and bold reveals of information, particularly on anything controversial.

He also said he is interested in tracking down who “unmasked” former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was ousted from his position after he misled Vice President Mike Pence on his own communications with Russia’s ambassador during the transition.

Mr. Nunes said Mr. Flynn’s conversation was scooped up by intelligence agencies, though it was “inadvertent collection.” He said someone high up had to make the decision to reveal that communication, and Mr. Nunes said that person has questions to answer.

There has been a lot of speculation to that end, as well.

Some claim it is pro-Obama holdovers within the administration, while others suggest there are warring factions within Trump’s own circle, vying for total control of the Trump camp.

We’re just over a month in. If this thing hasn’t blown up in six months, maybe then some of the backroom whispering will begin to dissipate.
