The 9/12 Taxpayer March on DC: Give Us Liberty!

Matt Kibbe and Dick Armey, President and Chairman of FreedomWorks, respectively, have penned a new book entitled Give Us Liberty! In the spirit of this year’s 9/12 Taxpayer March on DC, I want to recount a little about the awesomeness that was last year’s event.

One of the great things about true grassroots gatherings is how different the culture is from a typical political event. This is not the place for partisan agendas, or politicians for that matter. There are none of the mind-numbing policy lectures typical of free market events. There are, in fact, no canned speeches carefully crafted from the best opinion polling data and focus groups. There is lots of music and singing and chanting and talking and mingling and cheering.

The sheer size of the crowd could have been a logistical disaster because we simply were not prepared to accommodate and manage nearly a million people. Neither, apparently, was the city, the DC Metro service, the Capitol Hill police, or the National Park Service. But it did not turn into a logistical debacle. Everybody seemed to go with the flow.

I loved seeing people of all ages marching! Elderly folks, lots of veterans, families with children, college kids, bikers, you name it! It was definitely a cross section of America, and as I looked at the crowd I was struck with the fact that these people aren’t your normal protesters. They are normal people – the kind that make this country work! Most of us left jobs, school, family, and our normal responsibilities to go try to be heard and make sure the world knows we are out there and won’t be silenced.

–Marilyn, David and Andrew Taylor

This year, we’re doing it again. You can check out all the details of the March here. Heading into the election, it’s even more critical that we band together and keep the momentum going. Every voice matters.

Come to the 9/12 March. Read Give Us Liberty, and take the action steps in the back of the book. Be a part of the revolution!

You can check out another excerpt from the book here.

The sheer normalcy, the sweetness, of the people at these events– the truck drivers, the retired cops, the teenagers, the church groups, the artists, the dentists, the mechanics, the farmers– is what so flummoxes the leftists that populate the east coast cultural elites and media types that provide the reportage of the movement.

These self-appointed elites so seldom encounter hard working, God-loving, steadfastly loyal Americans that these statists get nervous and discombobulated when too many of them are clustered in one small area. And they evidently lose what rational faculties they have, for, up until this very article, I never once heard that nearly a million people showed up in Washington.

Good Luck, and may God bless your efforts, and your Gathering.

The MSM will report it as “several thousand protesters”.

of people crowded into the Washington Mall and the Capital grounds. It truly was a sight to behold and an experience of a lifetime. Though I had attended several Tea Party events preceding the 9/12 March, this was amazing. God saw to it that the weather was fine, the people were calm and the cops congenial. Sadly, I will be laid up from foot surgery this year.

Anyone who reads this post that is able to go, really should experience a day in the life of everyday Americans gathered together with one common purpose: Love of Country; it is inspiring!

what would two million be? Nancy is gonna have to come with a new name for that one. Plush carpet? Maybe this year they’ll actually look outside and notice the crowd.

This year will be fun. This year there will be more toilets. :)

Last year my wife and I took my father to D.C. on a whim .We had no idea how many people would be as fed up with our government as we were.I honestly thought that we could be some of the only ones that cared. When we attended the rally we were shocked to see hundreds of thousands of people just like us.It truly was an amazing thing to witness first hand, and gave us hope that millions of like minded people were no longer asleep. If you can attend this year, take a friend, hell take ten friends if you can.If you live within 6 hours drive of D.C. and you are a conservative you need to be there. You won’t ever forget the glorious day you stood shoulder to shoulder with millions to fight for freedom..I live in the Razorback nation, and its a 20+hour drive, but I wouldn’t miss it for anything. If you can’t go thats ok.but you will miss one of the most amazing events in our lifetime.

I went last year and had a ball. Great people, and fun to make a statement simply by showing up. You can read my story here:
