8/28 Wrap Up

I was lucky enough to attend yesterday’s Restoring Honor rally in Washington DC this weekend. I’ll let other people play the numbers game. I just know it was visually stunning.

It’s amazing to me how many people turn out again and again for these events. It breaks my heart on some level, because a lot of them can’t afford it. They’re just so committed to making our country better, and connecting with other people that are as passionate as they are about faith and freedom. The tone of Washington DC is changed entirely when the crowds come in, and it reminds me that everything we’re doing is worth it. The energy here shifts, and people become more positive, more friendly. They pick up each other’s trash. They hold the door for each other. It’s a lot more pleasant to be in DC on weekends like this.

Here are a few photos I snapped of the event:

The view from the Washington Monument an hour or so before the event started,

End of the event. Obviously, we trashed the place.

End of the event. Obviously, we trashed the place.

There was no violence. There were no riots. We didn’t even litter. So how can they marginalize it? By making it about race. I’ve heard it referred to as “Whitestock”… aren’t Lefties clever? We were obviously there to hate black people. Which is why they made up the majority of the speakers and singers.

Meanwhile, Al Sharpton’s monochromatic rally managed to bring out a small fraction of Beck’s number. If race is all they have to obsess about, then I’m feeling pretty good.

Also check out the Weekly Standard’s write up:

While Beck’s rally emphasized belief in God, Obama’s generally emphasized himself as a savior of the American people.

We have just two weeks until the 9/12 March on DC. It’s time to take the core values discussed at the Beck event and talk about how to make that change happen. Come to Washington. Get fired up. November is coming, and it’s closer then you think. Let’s make it happen.

Post. Great pictures too. My wife and I were lucky to have attended the rally as well. If was a great experience and very uplifting. Beck did a tremendous job with it all. The size of the crowd was amazing and everyone was so respectful to one another. What an honor to have been a part of this historical event. Again, thanks for sharing, very nice post.

At least that’s what the left is starting to say about photos snapped by event goers.

I had heard of the rally, but had no idea the crowd was going to be so large.

The left can ignore, obfuscate, and play the numbers game all they want. They ignore those numbers at their own peril. Or, are they ignoring the numbers, because at one point in the near future, the numbers aren’t going to matter?

    • n2ah

As to my opinion, next rally will be triple the number of people to join the rally. It seems that many people are interesting about the changes of the goal.

I’m spending my spare time, energy and money on getting good people elected this year. Our neighbor is running for state rep and he’ll be a terrific one. Our good friend/Iraq war vet is running for state senate, and he’ll be another one to watch in future. Oh, and we’re working to defeat Carnahan and elect Blunt for the U.S. Senate.

And then there’s 2012 to prepare for …

    • ktsub

We are doing the same, it is good to see conservatives fired up. Its heart warming to think all those Beck fans will be political activist this year.

    • redbloodedamericangirl

in 2012 to get rid of that pretender Claire McCaskill. I moved to Illinois earlier this year and I miss the Show-Me state so much. The political graft in this state is so deep it will take many years to root out all the crooks. How many states do you know where 2 out of the last three governors have been sent to prison and now my all-time fave “Dirty Roddy Blago.” Oh dear Lord will it ever end?

  • conservativecurmudgeon

..You can be assured of one thing, vis-a-vis events such as this: No such conservative rallies will EVER be as large as, say, the ’69 March on Washington, no event will ever be as important as the (-.4) Million Man March, no demonstration will ever be as transformative as the march on the Pentagon in 1970, etc…

The leftists blowhards who comment on these patriotic, conservative, later-day, awe-inspiring events live life entirely in the reflected glow of forty years of gaseous, pop-culture uplift. I remember those Days of Yore, when these lice-infected hippies were in their once-glorious youth: They were dangerous, fractious days filled with REAL violent, hate-filled rage. They weren’t all peace-signs, love-bugs and sunshine. They were acid-trips, violence, blood and police dogs. And disgusting, filthy trash and litter befouled their wake (-literally and figuratively).

I thank all of you from the depths of my heart for your attendance, for the family members you currently are loaning to our magnificent Armed Forces, and for your deep, abiding love of our nation and Her People. God Bless you all this beautiful, late-summer afternoon on your way home.

I don’t think they had enough people there to even leave a noticeable litter trail. My friends and I stopped at three or four different spots along the way trying to get photos or video of the Beck rally, spent a couple of minutes at each spot and still don’t think we really managed. On a whim we stopped to photo Al’s rally for comparison and grabbed shots in about 15 seconds getting the whole crowd from across the street.

Teresakoch has a link (below) that goes to Michelle Malkin, who links to a video of the grounds after Obama’s inauguration. Both affairs lasted a couple hours, and the difference is striking. (Hurricane latrina, indeed.)

Hey, you Progressives! Lecture me again about good stewardship of God’s creation!

Now time to be moved to action.

And I’ve got my own analysis of it in two parts. Feel free to click below.

You make some very valid points, thank you.

Perhaps the types of concerns you highlighted help explain some of the muted comments regarding the rally by certain members of the RedState leadership.

Frankly, Beck worries me. He is too emotional and over wrought to be in a leadership role. Being misled and taken down the wrong path is not confined to the left. Jesus said “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep

I was wondering how my comment would be received here. And my blog has been engulfed by people reading it from this link today!

Yeah, talking about the video – tangentally – a little off, but I felt it might help flesh out and make the video a little deeper.

        Thanks again.

appeared on Geraldo’s show last night. Highlights of Rev. Sharpton’s rally and highlights of Beck’s 8/28 Restoring Honor rally were shown. Rev Sharpton had some derogotory remarks for Beck at his rally, while Glenn Beck had nothing negative to say about the Sharpton rally. In point of fact, the other rally wasn’t even mentioned at the 8/28 event.

Actually, Dr. Alveda King, Dr. ML King’s niece spoke at the Lincoln Memorial along with Mr. Beck. She staunchly defended Beck and the spirit of the rally as a unifying event that called us all Americans, not African Americans or white Americans. Just Americans.

Rev. Sharpton expressed some consternation that the event was held at the Lincoln Memorial, the site of the 1963 “I have a dream” speech. The fact is, this rally has been planned since early spring. The march and speaking event hosted by Sharpton was only recently planned and was not able to be held at the Lincoln Memorial because the space was already reserved by the Restoring Honor event.

I was thoroughly disgusted by the race baiting by Rev. Sharpton both at his rally and his guest appearance on the Geraldo program. This his stock in trade. He is one of the most devisive figures in the Civil Rights movement. His cause would be better served by a more unifying message.

    On their web sites today:

C(ertified)B(iased)S(ocialists) “estimates” the crowd at the Beck rally at ONLY 87,000!!!!
N(itwit)B(iased, lunatic-left)C(lowns) says there were 300,000 at the Beck rally.

Based on these predicable lies from the lame stream socialist fake-new media, we can concluded that michele bachmann is probably correct that the crowd was over 1 MILLION – many times greater than race-baiter sharpton’s counter-rally.

  • JadedByPolitics

is ALL of those people who came, prayed and went home will be ENERGIZED to get to the polls along with getting others to the polls. The FIRE is with Conservatism and the benefit goes to the Republicans because WE are a 2 party system!

The 8/28 Mall rally helped raise $5 million for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is a top-rated, non-profit organization located in Tampa, Florida. The SOWF supports America’s special operations forces by providing full college educations to the surviving children of fallen special operations personnel as well as immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel.

Today, the foundation has 760 children in its program, with 110 students enrolled full-time in colleges and universities across the country.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation was awarded its third consecutive four-star rating from the nation’s leading charity watchdog, Charity Navigator.

Amusing, considering that the original Woodstock (and the lame attempts to revive it in the 90s and 00s) were overwhelmingly composed of white, wealthy college kids.

Remember, this is the same party/ideology that thought the entire Clinton Impeachment ordeal was about his penis and actions thereof. They also fantasized over President Bush’s crotch versus John Kerry. So size is important to them, never mind the actual content of what is going on. The only ones I hear harping about it are the clowns on the left. I’m sure that if there were a million people there they’d of course underscore it somehow. So they point to the airphotoslive.com count of the odd number of 87,000.

Nevertheless, it was a beautiful event by all accounts and the only people there with signs were the ones who were protesting grandma saying the pledge of allegiance. I think its important to note the event itself and while it may not go down as one that shook the nation to its core and changed history, it will be significant. Those that were there and those that watched will remember. I put it on DVR and plan on watching because I was out with my son at a football practice. Leftists were too busy having a mental midget meltdown over the racists in the crowd while they counted all the white folk.

But nevermind the lack of white folk at the Al Sharpton Klan rally.

The words used at the two events were important themselves. Lots of “we” meant two completely different meanings at the two events.

keep in mind that people were also wall to wall under the trees. The buses were re-routed from dropping people near the area to the metro rail stations. Patient, detemined, peaceful patriots waited for HOURS to catch a ride to the Mall. At noon, they were still streaming in. Why were we there? To make a statement. To do something. To join with kindred spirits. To unashamedly and unapolegetically pray to God in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. To come to the aid of our country.

    • DefendUSA

My son took a bus from Raleigh. He was on one of the buses that would not get into DC and was dumped at RFK. No metro. So he walked the five miles with his friends. The metro was shut down. (Many of the people who thought they could use this mode for travel were sorely disappointed and had to stay on the bus. They just couldn’t physically do it. So they were stranded.

My husband went to meet him at the Monument and by that time it was full of people. I also agree that you cannot see how full those grassy tree covered areas were. The walking path was standing room only, the Vienam and Korean War memorial grassy areas were full as was a small area by the Arlington Cemetery Bridge. There had to be more people there than at the 9/12, which I also attended.

We left that place cleaner than we found it for sure! Did anyone notice the Boy Scouts handing out the water at the stations? It was a well-run, well organized event. Everyone was as kind and helpful as they could be to each other. I heard some people claim too much mention of MLK, but it was the anniversary of a significant day and it was not inappropriate. IMO, they would have bashed Beck either way…Beck’s speech was fine and imported all the things we were surrounded by. The words had meaning! People were labeling it a religious revival, but they get it wrong. It was the revival of the American spirit, whether godly or not. It was about getting back to the roots of the founders and doing more with faith, hope, charity and love. You do receive some intangibles in all of those things and we must try to impart that to others.
      It was a great day.

87,000? You can fit 5 Rose Bowls, capacity about 105,000 people, into the area occupied by that cowd.

    • BA Cyclone

I was thinking just along the same lines as you were. I put it into context of overhead shots of your average large football stadium, generally seating about that many…90-100K. That is what I am most familiar with.

Look at those pictures and think of your stadium, which one do you think is more, or is it about the same? Good grief I don’t think it is even close. Remember your stadium only engulfs a field ~130 yards in length. How long are those reflecting pools?

Whatever CBS paid for that estimate was probably too much.

  • dnha14

Please also not in the pictures that there were no attendees desecrating the reflecting pools by swimming in them even though it was really hot out there.
