UPDATED: EPA Issues First Waiver For New Greenhouse Gas Regulations.

Guess who it went to? That’s right. Jeffrey Immelt.

Let’s do a quick recap. As National Review points out, back in 2009, Obama awarded GE $24.9 million in stimulus funds, and “roughly $20 billion more slated for health care record modernization of the kind that GE specializes in — ‘with a direct request to do so from GE’s CEO Jeffrey Immelt.’” Then last month, the President appointed Jeffrey Immelt, the CEO of General Electric, to his Head Council of Competitiveness and Jobs.

This all holds incredibly consistent with Immelt’s notion that for businesses to be successful it must work “in concert” with the government. However, it’s also known as “rent seeking” and is a glaring example of Big Government interfering with Big Business. Which is a problem.Rent seeking not only comes at the expense of American tax payers, but works to the detriment of both competitors and ultimately consumers. Basic economics says that competition drives down prices. Government support eliminates competition. Prices go up. This isn’t hard.

The regulations on greenhouse gases are inconvenient for corporations, and act as a handicap. They cost a lot of money. Businesses will suffer as a result. But CLIMATE CHANGE!!!1!! they say. It’s better for the environment! Only until it’s moved out of the country to another country with lower taxes and looser regulations that shares the same planet with us and thousands of Americans are left unemployed. Again. For example, 53% of GE’s employees are not based in the US.

The arrangement gives the EPA the upper hand. Now they’re in a position to get their hands in big corporations and do business. When someone is willing to deal, they’ll get the kickbacks. Suddenly, regulating the big corporations isn’t that important. That’s where waivers come in.

Tim Carney, who has consistently worked to illuminate the relationship between government and big business writes:

Maybe GE CEO Jeff Immelt’s closeness to President Obama, and his broad support for Obama’s agenda, had nothing to do with this exemption. But we have no way of knowing that, and given the administration’s record of regularly misleading Americans regarding lobbyists, frankly, I wouldn’t trust the White House if they told me there was no connection.

Nor would I, Tim.

UPDATE:

I received this information from GE Communications:

Just wanted to clarify the issue on the EPA waiver issued to a power project in California, which the Washington Examiner reported was issued to GE. GE did not receive an exemption from EPA. The waiver was issued to the project developer. GE is not building the plant and did not advocate for the waiver.

GE’s connection to the project is that we have submitted a bid for turbines. While GE would welcome the opportunity to provide our high-efficiency turbine technology for the proposed project, we have not been asked to provide any equipment to date.

It’s just amazing to me how Obama lets his rich union buddies and other fatcats help write these bills that screw everyone except the people who donated millions to Obama.

Meanwhile there’s hardly a peep out of the MSM about it. Obama has done a million times more to benefit GE than Bush/Cheney ever did for Halliburton it seems to me.

immediately on the case, holding press conferences and scheduliung emegency committee hearings ? Where is the oversight committee hearings chairman?. How about emergency legislation originating in the House appropriations committee to stop it, all of it, right now? So far we’ve had two votes and that’s it. One in the House to repeal Obamacare which was symbolic and one passing both bodies to repeal a reporting mandate. That’s it. Period. The Republican leadership is waiting on State Attorney Generals and Courts to do the dirty work. We want forty years of liberal nanny-state legislation stopped. now. defunded, blocked. We can’t wait to see whether the RNC or the RSCC supports the candidates the people pick in their primaries in 2012 and 2014. This is a constitutional freakin’ crisis.

Maybe that’s why the administration turned down IBM’s offer to assist in cutting down fraud. No wait, IBM said they’d give it for FREE!

For four years I have used this term to describe the way President Obama view his role. So I ask you.

How odes one go about getting exemption that will destroy the world.
    - Political donations anyone?
    - Targeted jobs opportunities?

If you hire the right law firms (connected to the right democrats) and you contribute enough to the right campaigns (the democrats) and you spend money on the right propaganda advance democrat causes), and support the right charities (left) and use the right lobbyists (former democrats) you can get an exemption that will hasten the end of the world.

This guy isn’t serious about anything but raising money.

He will need a billion dollars to ignore every campaign finance law in 2012, and he has to get it somewhere. The Demcorats as a group will need the backing of some big players to raist that kind cash/ The deal with China, and all the fawning and partying, no way that raised money for the President. Exemptions? No way that raises money for the Democrats.

And lets not forget, after you bribe your way into an exemption the threat of loosing it looms if you don’t continue to contribute to keep the Democrats in power. Buying an exemption is like paying protection money to the racketeers. No, correct that, it is paying protection money to the raketeers.

And the democrats have the aurdacity to say republicans are a party of special interests. Liars.

GE has cut 18,000 jobs since immelt took over. His greatest skill has been his ability to extract political favors from government.

Good for him. Good for GE shareholders. Bad for the people.

But, I just can’t seem to keep myself from referring back to the Constitution. I know, I know. You’ve heard it all before so why say it yet one more time.

Remember that the Constitution clearly limits governments reach and specifically defines its responsibilities. When it ignores the Constitution or distorts it to justify its actions for the “good of the people”, it brings about one of the most important things in business that the Constitution was written to prevent.

    Monopoly. Absolute power corrupts, Absolutely.

    My two cents…

Isn’t this the same CEO that did business with IRAN in direct comtempt for the laws of the United States of America?

Didn’t our parents always say you could measure a person by the company they keep? ….. Uhm? Mr. Obama

    How Arrogent !

the cricket chirps from the media are getting very close to treasonous dereliction of duty from their fourth estate position in our government.
