Perry to Feds: Don’t Mess With Texas

Texas is clearly not happy with the CLEAR Act’s intention to usurp control of state water bottoms. In a letter from Governor Rick Perry, plus the Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, the oil and gas regulating Railroad Commission, the Land Commissioner, the Speaker of the House and the Chairmen of both the House and Senate Natural Resources Committees let the state’s Washington delegation know how they feel about Congress’s power grab.

    at just sending it to the texas delegation. There’s a host of other govs, lt govs and state officials who understand state’s rights and would have happily signed on. then they could send it to every congress critter and let them know states rights are not to be abridged. If the roll texas they’ll try to roll every other state.

      it;s just when one fires a warning shot, it’s best to be primed and ready and that includes playing from your strong suit & on your acknowledged turf. Kind of like, if the feds were about to nationalize coal mining WVa would know how to mobilize to deal from strength and make the feds look bad and foolish as they tried. I don’t think they’d just roll over. Completely taking over all regulation and all state prerogative is kind of back door federalizing the states’ and private parties’ interests in the domestic oil & gas industry the way 0 is going about it.

      I think they should restrict themselves to the Texas delegation and perhaps the chairmen of the appropriate committees in congress (i.e. energy and environment committees). I’m a Texas resident who was born in Illinois, raised in Indiana, and also lived 5 years in Kansas. I’m only 40 years old but have long been tired of our elected officials representing their committee interests or their party first and their state a far distant second, it at all. This shortcoming has been evident in every state I’ve ever called home and probably applies to all 50 states. Part of trying to hold gov’t accountable is targeting the right members of the gov’t and stating your case.

      I’m not the biggest fan of Perry, but I think he got this one pretty much right on.

        Just can’t seem to keep his many legs from snatching more power from the states, it’s about time the states relieve him of some of those legs. Good work Texas, how about the rest of the states follow Texas’ lead. Down with socialism,communism,marxism,radical revolutionaries, and down right terroist,

    government. Competence is not supposed to be even mentioned. It certainly is taboo when the Chief Freak is discussed. But then who in the media knows anything about competence?
    One thing for sure, the cannibals currently in power assuredly have it in for Texas and Gov. Perry.
    Taken in context, another step towards the Fascist state. No wonder liberals[?] love Hussien.

    Texas agreed to become a part of the US only if the provision of allowing Texas to succeed if it so chooses was part of of the deal. It is in our state constitution to bail. I’m not the only Texan recently to say “Screw the feds. We’ll keep our drilling wells, beef, sugar, corn, cotton, and a wealth of natural resources, and we just won’t play with you anymore.”

        Secondarily, keep the pressure on the feds with things like Texas’ latest message.

        And finally, if and when all else fails, let’s keep in mind another guiding principle that served freedom-minded people well in the past:

        “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, ? That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”

        The Obama cabal and the D.C. political class may make of those words what they will, but ignore them at great peril.

          Two sentences later Jefferson wrote: But when a long train of abuses and usurpations evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their DUTY, to throw off such government and provide new guards for their future security (emphasis mine). In a free country it is the duty of citizens to watchdog their representatives and not allow them to take away their freedoms. Let us watch carefully, vote wisely, and react as necessary.

        It’s very tough here in Texas when most of my state politicians are on the right side of where I see things and many in the rest of the country are not. I can vote all day long here, but that does no good in CA or NY. So while I’d love to vote them out of office, I can’t. And I can’t fathom how the rest of the country allows themselves to be swindled. Can’t they see what we in Texas see?

          I just want to grab people by the neck and shout “WHAT THE H– IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!” followed by “Are you *blind*?!” Oh, and I’m in Indiana. I’d love to be in Texas, though, so that I won’t have to get a passport to move if secession were to happen. Maybe the rest of the nation should secede from CA, NY, and Chicago…

    as a warning of imminent legal action. I am sure the Governor has not fired this warning shot without having some “dry powder” ready in case. A little history is appropriate here. First: this issue – land and jurisdiction over state waters – is near and dear to the heart of Texas. When it negotiated its way laterally into the Union, being formerly an independent nation, it was careful to negotiate that it got to keep almost all its surface land. There is very little (relative to other western states) federal controlled land in Texas; and if the feds didn’t get the land, they didn’t get the mineral estate (oil & gas) either. Second: Texas of all the states, even Alaska, is the senior sister in oil and gas regulation and production, and superior in experience and knowledge to the federal government. Yes. The Texas Railroad Commission, dating back to early in the 20th century has been regulating oil and gas and dealing worldwide in energy before the fed MMS even existed in its current form. OPEC and virtually every other government entering into oil and gas production, has looked to the experience & organization of the TexRRC; in turn, whenever any kind of on land incident happens anywhere in the US, the Texas RRC staff is often summoned for advice before the feds are called. In other words, Texas knows more about oil and Washington DC, plain and simple, and will jealouslly guard state prerogative. I have been wondering what the wily Perry has been up to and where he is going to choose to fight his Tenth Amendment battles. This may be a preview.

            sort of brings to mind an western where stinking bad Bart (Obama)and his western equivalent of gangsta punks are holed up at the local saloon, and cowboy Tex with white hat (Texas) walks in and says “Bart you don’t own this town anymore,” and Gary says to Lupe the pretty Latina barmaid (Louisiana), “have you about had enough of this slob? Let’s go” and in a flash, old George the uncorrupted deputy sheriff playing poker at a table (Oklahoma) jumps up and says “I,m going with ya Tex.”….well the narrative is simple but 0′s guys see things in even simpler narrative which includes crush the above States whenever and whereever possible, so sometimes simple narratives are useful.

      because they can hold onto the mineral rights more so than others, which means when it comes to state soverignty Texas has more of an umbrella. But still, other states are afforded some soverignty over their soil and would love to help texas fight this battle. I can see volunteer backing lone star in this effort.

    I love the tenth amendment stuff, but it’s time for the states to start organizing their opposition. A single state ( Texas or not) will not be able to stand up to the federal government.

      Don’t you bet on it. When push comes to shove, there are several other states that will jump in on Texas’ side. I would hope that my own state of Arkansas would be one of them. If not, I will become an illegal and sneak across the border into Texas, bringing my “equipment” with me.

    9 other states have filed amicus briefs in support of Arizona in its fight with the Obama cabal, and now Texas has delivered fair warning on another issue.

    is poised, if they must, to make a stand under Perry. He would be leading it half for Texas and half for himself, but he would make a stand if Obamunist pushes any federal take over of Texas law. Something is up. Perry wants the mantle, I’m nearly sure, that Jan Brewer has in Arizona, but has remained curiously mild in supporting her, but does stand for her idea.

    To your point on waiting on the November elections, that seems to be the line in the sand. After that, all bets are off because time is past to stopa budding tyranny from an entrenched marxist.

      We got the election in November, and the 9th US circuit ct of Appeals says it will not hear Arizona’s case on an expedited schedule. They’re going to mess with it in November ( Brewer asked for Sept,)

      Novermber is going to be “tension filled” to say the least.

    not that the EPA really cares other than make a mess of the State. This whole admin is doing criminal things but we will have the evidence ready if they lose. When that happens, it time for a trial. No Impeachment talk, Trial in 2013 if they lose.

    I live in the city of Austin and tend to hear a lot of Perry’s talk on the usual AM radio stations. A lot of his “tough talk” is usually a good deal of hot air – such as his on again / off again threats to secede. He knows how to rile a group with a clever turn of phrase but usually over-promises and under-delivers.

    Having said that, I was glad to see him prove me wrong here. This was a very well written and proper statement to make. Now I just hope he sticks to his guns.

    What ever Republican becomes President in 2012 they need to look long and strong at Michael Williams for Energy Sec. at the very least.
    Watch this video of Williams doing an energy workshop. This gentleman’s plan could bring us oh so close to energy independence.

      I shared it on my FB account. He now has my vote against KBH in Nov.

      It’s odd to watch this, almost 2 years later. About 15 minutes in, he talks about what we need to do with CO2 and how good that can be for the country. And isn’t it funny that the EPA just made CO2 a harmful gas. It’s proof that the unelected powers do not have America’s best interest at heart.

    Team Perry, and believe me when I say team I mean team, are very good at political timing. The heavy stuff will hit in October I betcha.
    Also, the team will probably have a distraction and a flanking attack to set in motion.
    K. B. H. came down from Washington with a Washington campaign group and got sandbagged by the Perry Team. Even some Texans haven’t cottened on to what happened in that primary contest, especially the tone deaf Democrats who should have been paying attention.
    There will be a fair amount of money from Texas going out of state to people who oppose Obama also. I think a number of energy states are going to unload on Obama in October.

    The result of an action to Nationalize Texas would be to enable Obama to enact martial law. It is the crisis giving him wet dreams of conquest. He is working to incite open war by those of us opposing his facist agenda.

    Defend the rights of Texas as a state, not as a seperate country.

    I am a native of Texas now living in California the land of the nut and fruit society. If any state were to be nationalized, I would vote for Califonia to be first. Mexico would do us a favor if they took it back. But I cannot support such harm to the general population of Mexico.

      tex41lb — Having lived in California awhile myself, I share your views. Whatever crimes Mexico may be guilty of, making them take California back would violate the “cruel and unusual punishment” provisions of our Constitution, although the majority of “Californians” are now Hispanic.

      However, for Obama to “enact martial law” assumes that he would have the military support necessary to do so. Having served several years in the US military, the oath I took was to support the United States Constitution, not some marxist-socialist who managed to get himself elected President. The US military’s support for Obama’s declaring martial law would be somewhere between nil and none.

        I agree. Never thought I would need to know the rules, process and llimits for the government in regard to the use of martial law. I will hit the internet to start learning all I can.

        Clearly the military would have to support an attempt in order for it to succeed. No doubt in my mind there would be major resistence from rank and file to imposing the order. In question is how progressive have the general staff officers become from education by progressive institutions of learning. Have the military colleges become similarily infected? Your thoughts?
