In LA-02, State Rep. Cedric Richmond is the Dem’s choice to face incumbent Joseph Cao.

…So we can avoid the runoff in LA-03?

Considering how close Landry was to 50%, I really don’t see where it makes any sense for Downer to continue.

Republicans are going to do great here this year. All of the House races where we have an incumbent besides LA-02 and LA-03 are in the big.

Jeff Landry will easily defeat little known lawyer Ravi Sangisetty in Southern Louisiana’s 3rd congressional district. If GOP prospects were to go steadily downward, this is one seat we’ll probably pickup.

We had that internal poll that showed Cao’s campaign is not dead in the water. He is moderate and has great attention to constituent services which is what suits him best in this majority African American, inter-New Orleans district. A lot of dirt on the Democrat can be found here: http://therealcedricrichmond.com/

LA-SEN: David Vitter is not going to win by a landslide, but he should win by about 10 points. Democrats did get a good recruit in Melancon but you can only do so good in the South in a wave year.

…Vitter’s going to beat Melancon by a minimum of 15 percent. Voter intensity is a major factor in his favor, and outside of New Orleans there is ZERO additional reason for Democrats to turn out on Nov. 2 – LA-2 is the only competitive race on the ballot for them, and it’s not like Melancon is much of a draw for Democrats.

Melancon’s campaign has been nothing short of terrible, and it’s not getting any better. That’s going to depress turnout, not increase it, and Vitter already has voter intensity.

      15 points is probably conservative.

I was going by recent polls.

Has a huge financial advantage. By then end of this election, Melancon=Obama in the eyes of LA voters. Melancon is trying to attack Vitter for his personal problems, but it appears to be backfiring. His negatives went way up in the last poll, since Vitter has begun hitting Melancon and Melancon has run a sick attack ad.

I was just looking at PPP and found this:

            Vitter’s approval is 53/41 up from 45/43.

            Melancon’s approval is 26/48 down from 29/34.

I didn’t realize how much of a backfire Melancon was getting.

that we no longer care about character, integrity, honor, morality, in our elected officials and those seeking such offices.

David Vitter should have stepped down when he was confronted with his adultery with a prostitute.

We should not merely hope for good candidates, we should winnow them and strive for the best.

And for every occassion where we get a good candidate, some other citizens seem to vote for the lesser of two evil approach, giving heed to the national parties voices.

And so, here in Missouri, instead of standing behind Chuck Purgason or one of the other Republican candidates, like sheep most of the state voted for Roy Blunt, giving us yet again a lesser of two choice in November.

It is not wrong to demand the best for and of our representatives.

…political office isn’t attractive to good people. Good people would look at a job which requires that you put yourself and your family through a gauntlet of abuse and indignity to get it, pays less for top talent than the private sector does, endangers your reputation with everything you say and do and only offers power over your fellow man as a signature benefit.

You’re not going to get good people involved in such a field of endeavor. And since our founders designed the Republic for the specific purpose of limiting the damage politicians could do to the common weal, we generally have not had them.

You’ll get a few good people in politics, but generally speaking what you’re going to get is degenerates, opportunists and attention whores. And this is by no means anything new. Do you think the corrupt political machines of the 19th century were populated by good and virtuous souls?

act was one of a personal failure. As a sinner saved by grace I know we fall short in our personal behavior. The sin of greed or pride or arrogrance are equal in God’s eyes to adultery. There is no ranking of sin. If we used sin as a basis for public service only the ungodly would be serving.

I do not approve of Vitter’s act but grace is about second chances and redemption.

Vitter violated a private trust-not a public one. He also seems repentant.

    That’s good enough for me.
