Former Gov. Edwin Edwards (D) Leaves the Crossbar Hotel

The Silver Zipper is on the loose!

Former Governor Edwin W. Edwards (D) left the Federal Penitentiary in Oakdale, LA today, ending 8-1/2 years of confinement. He had been sentence to 10 years on racketeering charges, stemming from his involvement in the state’s casino licensing process. He will live with his daughter in suburban Baton Rouge, and the terms of his release require him to check in periodically at a halfway house.

Edwards has to keep his pie-hole shut until June. Statewide elections are in October. We’ll see how long Edwin’s political exile lasts. He absolutely craves the limelight.

On the positive side, it looks like he got fat in prison, plus he’s 83. The last Mrs. Edwards, Candy Picou, divorced him in 2004 but has left the door open to a rekindling of that relationship.

Wikipedia
: In 2006, Candy Edwards gave birth to a child named Harrison Arthur Picou Low. The father is Brian Low (born 1975). Low and Candy are not married and she is still single. Candy has said that she brought the child to the prison on one of her visits with her for Edwin to see him. She said that he is very supportive of her. Candy Edwards continues to use her married name and works as a real estate agent. When asked if she and Edwin would ever get back together after his release from prison she said that “anything could happen”.

Ahh, romance.

That hateful SOB was the original slick one. Hey Vlad, BTW, I have a question for you.

I have heard from several sources that Oil SuperTankers cause more air pollution than all of the automobiles in North America.

That just did not ring true with me. I tried to do a Snopes on it, but could find nothing. Do you know anything about this claim?

Ordinarily pollution is caused by inefficient combustion and unburnt fuel. If they are polluting that much it would seem to me that they must be horribly inefficient, and thereby costly.

I would guess that there are a million American cars for every tanker on the high seas.

I can easily believe that oil tankers cause more pollution than the entire marine oil and gas industry, though. In fact, it’s about five times as much (in terms of sources of oil in the marine environment) IIRC.

Not to threadjack your threadjack, but I see that the OP failed to contain a link about EWE. Hyeh ’tis.

As a side note, EWE is the only D politician I can remember voting for for statewide or higher office. That was the runoff election that pitted him against faux Republican David Duke.

That was the “Vote for the Crook; It’s important” election.

EWE also famously said, regarding his run for election vs David Treen (R), that the only way he would lose would be to be caught with a “dead girl or a live boy”. One thing about Edwin, he did have a good sense of the electorate.

I am having some fun with the fact that Mr. Edwards shares initials with RedState’s own EWE, also a Louisiana boy.

I wonder if he slept with any live boys in the last 8 years?

Gov. Edwards was warned about his wrongdoings many years ago at the Sheraton Hotel in Baton Rouge during a kickoff luncheon for his re-election campaign for governor of Louisiana. He did not listen to the warnings and the result was that he fulfilled the old adage: “Louisiana has the best politics money can buy.” We are glad there appears to be an honest and forthright governor currently in the Mansion in Baton Rouge. With his war chest reported to be $8 mil and growing any of Edwards’ cronies will be facing a great uphill battle. Hopefully, the days of Edwin are behind Louisiana and we all can rejoice in that!
