Edwin Edwards for Governor?

Fans of former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards have created a Facebook page called “Ask Obama to Pardon Edwin Edwards”. As an convicted felon, the Silver Zipper is precluded from running for a fifth term as governor. Barack Obama could change all that.

According to Edwin, you see, Bobby Jindal has things so messed up in Louisiana that the Democrats are having trouble finding anyone to take on the challenge.

Edwards said that in the relatively short time that he’s been out of prison on racketeering charges he has found “there are a lot of people who want Jindal to have opposition and a lot of people who want me to be governor. You put those two factors together and you have a lot of talk about the possibility of my running. It’s both flattering and understandable, given the status of Louisiana politics today.”

Edwards said he was approached by Democratic Party leaders to encourage possible challengers to Jindal’s re-election but “for a multitude of different reasons, nobody seems interested in tackling the job and I’m not sure that I blame them.”

Heh.

Among the 1,700 “likes” on the Facebook page are such notable luminaries as former Governor Kathleen Blanco (D), former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (D), the Louisiana Democratic Party, and, yes, even President Barack Obama, the man who could make these fans’ dream a reality.

Current State Senator Rob Marionneaux is the highest-profile Dem who is rumored to be considering a challenge to Republican incumbent Bobby Jindal in this fall’s election.

Such is the state of the Democratic Party in Louisiana. The President’s moratorium and outright economic warfare on the state has permanently damaged the Democratic brand. Last week, it was announced that Dems no longer comprise a majority of the electorate. Both houses of the state legislature have flipped to Republican control. Senator Mary Landrieu is the only Democrat who holds statewide office.

And their strongest prospect for governor is an 80 year old newlywed, well rested after serving 8 years of a 10-year on Federal holiday for racketeering.

This really cheers me up as I watch Irene bearing down on us poor souls here in the NE. I hope Edwards runs and gets his a$$ whupped but good. What a vastly amusing election that would be to watch.

Fast Eddie would be the perfect poster child for the progressives and the modern Democratic party: Old, Tired, stupid, backward, nasty, mean, and criminal.

.their good points that are old hat with the dems; you know, the ‘move along, nothing to see here’ points.

By being in jail at the time and therefore doing nothing, he did just as much for LA during Katrina as Governor “um” did. And he did more than Mayor Nagin did, since Edwards couldn’t screw anything up.

this a.m. giving hurricane preparedness tips. I’m still laughing over that one – they were actually serious.

On another note, it is reported that Nanny Bloomie is asking folks to evacuate ahead of Irene – and those same folks are ignoring him. Meanwhile, Gov. Christie has ordered “Get the hell off the beach.” Wonder how many will ignore that?

      What a fun day!

Re: Nanny Bloomie – I was talking to my brother tonight, and he said that a friend of his was ordered to evacuate since he lived on the East Side of Manhattan. I asked him where he evacuated to. He paused, and said, “Midtown”.

preaching is a sight to behold. She has put on untold pounds since she moved to OUR White House and the caboose is certainly showing it. What a clod. BTW, what is the deal with those two now flying separately? So she can take over if he crashes? What are they doing?

This has been a fantastic silly Friday with the news and wonderful comments. I spent most of the night last night laughing like a loon over Kinky Friedman’s support of Rick Perry. If you don’t know who Kinky is, for a funny ride google him. He ‘ran’ for Gov. of Texas in ’06 and kept us in stitches – he was going to have Willie Nelson in some VIP job when he won, etc.

          To continue with the tips:

Obama gives off-the-cuff speaking tips at Toastmasters luncheon

A friend of mine has been a fan for years and I was the fortunate beneficiary of his collection. I may have even donated to his campaign for governor, but it was at a bar so I am not clear on that.

            Here are some other tips:

Joe Biden giving tips on thoughtfully commenting as an elected official.

Maxine Waters giving a lecture on how to improve race relations.

Elliot Spitzer on marriage and morality.

Any Democrat wife on how to leave your man when he cheats.

Tiger Woods on proper texting procedures.

            Jeanine Garafalo with beauty tips.

Shelia Jackson Lee on how to join Mensa in the shortest time possible.

goofball, much like Willie Nelson. Neither one has bad intentions – they are actually gentle souls. Though I, and others, disagree with their politics, you can pretty much forgive them anything because they are so entertaining. They aren’t out to hurt anyone. During the ’06 campaign when Kinky was a candidate, he kept everyone in stitches – loved his ’5 Mexican Generals Plan’ to solve illegal immigration. Actually, it was so way out there it might have worked! Yep, Kinky and Willie – just two lovable, yet loony, guys trying to get along in the world.

As for Sheila Jackson-Lee (a/k/a Windbag) is such a joke. The pitiful part is that she is in such a safe district. Maybe it is good she is in D.C. to perfectly illustrate that particular illogical, hysterical, mean, backward, downright silly mindset. I have never heard anyone say they like her. She is one ‘stoooopid’, mean, hateful so-and-so. Back in the early ’80′s, she worked where I did, though only briefly on her part. Wasn’t long before we heard she had ‘resigned’ Sort of a nice way of saying she was frog-marched out the door. Lordy, what a despicable, vile woman(?). And a candidate for Mensa she ain’t! LOL She and Maxine are something to behold.

            .

        • pttx333

Boy, that is some big-time evacuation! Everything is so down the tubes that it is hilarious.

Re Kinky Friedman – his stance on illegal immigration for the Five Mexican Generals Plan – give 5 Mexican generals $1M each and then deduct $10,000 from the pile for each illegal crossing the border into the US. That would stop it in a hurry.

Or to celebrate his Jewish ancestry, to lower the speed limit to 54.95 MPH!

the reason. MSNBC or, as Rush says, PMSNBC is probably too ignorant to know or remember how Nagin conducted himself during Katrina – or they just don’t care. The whole lib crowd has now gone truly insane. Can’t wait to see them out on street corners begging after they are booted out!

Edwards said he was approached by Democratic Party leaders to encourage possible challengers to Jindal?s re-election but ?for a multitude of different reasons, nobody seems interested in tackling the job and I?m not sure that I blame them.?

The joke in Louisiana is that all the Democrats in the state can hold a party and have it catered in a phone booth and still have room for more people.

Obama has nothing to lose. It’s a no risk gamble for him.

Not saying the thought is good, just that it’s possible.

And, considering how he was able to walk into the governorship during his third and fourth times, you just cannot discount him as a political threat – even if the sensible political odds are heavily stacked against him and the Democrats in general.

  • Adjoran

He is that most rare of Democrats: he served his just time in prison.
