Authorities have identified the terror suspect in the terror-linked attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida as Omar Mateen, 27, a United States citizen from Port St. Lucie.

While many reporters are being reserved in their discussion of the terror link, on CNN this morning Jake Tapper interviewed several experets, including former CIA counterterrorism official Phil Mudd, who point out that the fact that the FBI and local authorities would take the step of linking him to Islamic terror so early in the investigation probably indicates that he was already known to them and perhaps even on a watch list, though they were only speculating.

Fox News reported on air that Omar Mateen’s parents may have immigrated from Afghanistan, and that the suspect has made terrorism threats in the past.
