Comedian Calls Melania a 'Piece of Sh--' Over the Border Situation

Politics has probably never been a pretty place. But it seems to me it’s of late increased in ugliness.

And I wish we could all go back to more civil times.

You surely recall a photo of comedian Kathy Griffin, in which she posed with a phony, bloody, detached head of Donald Trump.

She was criticized, then she apologized, then she took back the apology.

Following that, she claimed she was being pushed around.

According to the entertainer, her career suffered greatly due to the evil of internet trolls.

On Sunday, Griffin returned to the political arena, this time to speak on problems at the southern border.

Perhaps partially fueled by feelings from her previous experience, she addressed the issue by way of writing to the President’s wife.

And her manner wasn’t particularly polite, to say the least.

Earlier in the day, in light of recent uproar over children being separated from their parents at the border, First Lady Melania’s office told Fox News she wasn’t happy about the practice:

“Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform. She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws but also a country that governs with heart.”

On Twitter, Kathy responded thusly:

“F— you, Melanie. You know damn well your husband can end this immediately…you feckless complicit piece of s—.”

That seems to increasingly be our state of affairs, on both sides of the aisle. Our national dialogue appears ever-lurching toward a more venomous exchange.

And if I had to guess, as we propel ourselves into further vitriolic dispute, not only are the nation’s problems no more likely to be solved, but we’re bound to cause greater problems with which to deal.

Kathy’s tweet prompted a new batch of backlash.

The following were a few responses online:

Hahahaha hahahaha!!!! [Kathy] is hate filled and pathetic. [You’re] a part of the reason the Left can’t be taken seriously.

[Kathy] has had some mental issues for quite some time. She needs help. One should not “hate her” as she does everyone else, but have pity on her.

She is (a) used up has been who is struggling to stay [relevant]…She and Chelsea Handler can screw off together into the sunset. They are both pathetic and no longer entertainers…they are political bores…right along with Robert [De Niro].

In my view, none of this is beneficial.

There was once a pervasive attitude in America, even concerning politics: Agree to disagree.

We appear to be far past that now.

As for the situation at the border, people are right to be concerned — and both sides agree there’s a problem afoot.

And in an ideal America — or perhaps in any America with the hope of remaining intact — we can solve it together.

I hope we do.
