On Tuesday, New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined a trending-on-Twitter call for Sen. Lindsey Graham to quit Congress.
And why? Because Lindsey told Donald Trump Jr. not to yap it up to investigators.
Last week — just a day after Mitch McConnell’d given the Mueller probe the ol’ “Case closed” — news broke that Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr had subpoenaed the President’s son.
Therefore: Not so closed.
Apropos, speaking to reporters Monday, Lindsey offered some advice to Trump Jr.:
“You just show up and plead the Fifth, and it’s over with.”
He said enough’s enough:
“This whole thing is nuts. It’s over.”
Some across the aisle are claiming Lindsey’s call to Jr. to keep his beak shut amounts to a heinous act of obstruction worthy of gettin’ the congressional boot:
“He doesn’t have to say ‘go lie for me,’ for it to be a crime. You don’t have to say ‘let’s obstruct justice’ for it to be a crime. You judge people on their conduct, not magic phrases” Senator Lindsey Graham #LindseyGrahamResign pic.twitter.com/IVx0xAJ5Jd

In fact — like a shirt on top of a shirt on top of a shirt in the 80’s — Dems tellin’ Lindsey to take a hike is downright trendy:

BREAKING: #LindseyGrahamResign has been tweeted out over 300,000 times since @TheDemCoalition started to promote it this morning! Graham SHOULD resign. Him telling Don Jr to ignore a Senate subpoena is more than enough to warrant his resignation—everyone who retweets this agrees!

Senator Lindsay Graham has openly encouraged Don Jr. to show up but to plead the 5th and refuse to testify. Why is Graham helping to cover up Don Jr.'s lies and further obstruct the investigation? #LindseyGrahamResign https://t.co/oBjaym3oKi

By the way, Politico reports that Don Jr. will indeed be interviewed — for as many as four hours:
Donald Trump Jr. has agreed to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee, ending — for now — a heated fight within the GOP over the Republican-led panel’s Russia investigation.
Trump Jr. will be interviewed behind closed doors for up to four hours, according to a source familiar with the situation, after Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) subpoenaed him to follow up on his earlier testimony.
Trump Jr. is set to appear in mid-June, and the questioning will be limited to five or six topics, the source said.
The agreement came together at the last minute, according to the person. The original deadline to respond was Monday at 5 p.m. About an hour before that deadline, a committee aide reached out to Trump Jr.’s representatives and said the panel would extend it to Tuesday at 5 p.m., giving the two sides more time to negotiate.
Trump Jr.’s lawyers were prepared to send to Burr and Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the panel’s top Democrat, a letter saying he wouldn’t testify and arguing that he wouldn’t submit to what they cast as an inquiry with no end in sight, according to a copy of the letter viewed by POLITICO.
Advice to Politico: Don’t begin three paragraphs in a row with the same two words.
Back to fashion and the brigade against Lindsey continuing as senator: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t wanna miss the action. So here she is, like a cool kid:
The Senate Intel Committee (which is GOP-controlled!) issued a legally binding subpoena, & Sen. @LindseyGrahamSC advised that individual to ignore it.
If Lindsey Graham wants to work for Trump so badly, he can resign his seat and move his office down a few blocks to do so. https://t.co/wrbjoNMISd

Politics loves nothing so much as a pile-on. Democrats saw a shot at putting Lindsey at the bottom, so they took it. Nice goin’.
But will it change anything? Not likely. Another day, another goofy move. In the end, you can’t punish a lawmaker for touting a constitutional right. And you can’t make Donald Trump Jr. say somethin’ he doesn’t wanna.
The Dems’ wail for Lindsey to resign will be no more effective than Alexandria’s angry call to arms against cow farts (see the video below). And they’d better watch out — Lindsey’s got some fire of his own (here and here).
Either way, another day, another Dumb. And the war to put to rest — or resurrect — a dying Mueller investigation continues.
P.S. In my headline, the word “dumb” refers to a call for resignation, not to Alexandria.
