This is just unbelievable.

According to prosecutors and court documents, a mother and daughter in Chicago teamed up in order to strangle a 9-months-pregnant teenager and steal the baby by cutting it from her dead body.

On Wednesday, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez was found dead after having been missing since April 23rd. She’d disappeared after going to the residence of 46-year-old Clarisa Figueroa, having been told she’d be given free baby clothes.

Along with 24-year-old daughter Desiree Figueroa, Clarisa is being charged with first-degree murder and aggravated battery of a child.

Also charged: Clarisa’s boyfriend, Peter Bobak (alternately identified as “Piotr”), with concealment of a homicidal death.

The crime was preceded by a bizarre conceit: In December 2018, Clarisa claimed she was pregnant. On March 5th, she posted to Facebook that she was naming her baby Xander — the same name of her son who’d passed away at the age of 20.

But: Clarisa’d had her tubes tied.

She roped Desiree into the murder plot against Marlen, who she’d met in a Facebook group.

While Desiree distracted Marlen with a photo album of Xander, Clarisa choked her with a cable.

Marlen was initially able to keep from being strangled, but Desiree gradually peeled her fingers from the ligature.

The duo used a butcher knife to slice Marlen’s unborn child from her stomach. They then threw her body in a trash can on the side of their garage.

Clarisa created a GoFundMe for herself and the hospitalized infant.

But it didn’t take long to uncover the ruse: Officials found Peter “cleaning a rug outside with bleach and a hose.” More critically, Marlen’s body was still in the trash can.

As for the health of the baby, it’s currently “in grave condition and has zero brain activity.”

There are monsters among us. The next time you’re out and about, look around: You could be staring into the eyes of evil. Those who knew Clarisa and Desiree Figueroa were.

Those two have been removed from society for now, but there are others. And they’re in our schools, beside us at the grocery store, and — in some cases — in our lives.

We live in a broken world. And a Chicago teen and her baby were snuffed out because of it.

But what’s the contemporary value of life? In New York and Virginia, we’ve seen it diminished (here and here). And not just by those in public places, but by government — a place where evil could thrive most exceptionally. These are scary times. And if we aren’t careful who we elect, they’re going to get a lot scarier.
